Extreme Trope Makeover!

I think that a few of us Tropers should start a weekly thing called Extreme Trope Makeover. From a series of trope pages without an image, lack of examples, a bad description, etc, we pick one and revise it.

What do you think?

That's what the whole Trope Repair Shop and Image Pickin' forums are for.

I think the point is to highlight a single trope page every week that has problems so that we can get a larger number of people involved and get things done quickly.

I don't think it's a bad idea.

Look at how many open discussions we already have going on.

But I'm thinking of picking a few Tropes at random, and improving them to the best of our ability. And then featuring them.

Picking a beat up trope or works page giving it a focused clean up and giving it a front page treatment. That is the gist right?

It could be interesting.

I don't know about "at random", but...

Yes, we have a large number of still-open topics in the Trope Repair Shop. If I made a topic for every trope page that I thought needed repairing, it would be even larger.

So how about we take on of those topics and sticky it, advertise it around the site for a week. "This page has a problem. You can come to help fix it."

We can get more people into the process and get some of the slower topics moving more quickly.

^ I just got ninja'd. I should refresh more often.

^Yours has better wording.

I would be down for picking up a item that has been languishing or getting little love in TRS and advertising a fix.

OK, digging up old ones that have languished, and giving them some serious attention I have no objection to. I thought you meant making a concerted effort to find more that haven't been brought up yet.

I'm not sure if this is quite the idea chihuahua0 was thinking of when he made this thread, and if it's not I'm sorry for hijacking it, but I think we have a good idea here that we can make once we get some of the details sorted out.

So the idea is that, probably once a week, we find a trope page that is in need of some sort of attention. Either it needs a new name, the trope needs defining, Needs Wiki Magic Love, or something else. This page can be found in many ways, like from the aforementioned page, the threads from the Trope Repair Shop, or anything else somebody happens to find.

The page itself could probably just be determined by a mod. Finding one page a week shouldn't take too much time. If it's taken from the Trope Repair Shop, then I think a new thread should be made with a summary of the problems and possible solutions in the first post. This way, people can quickly get an idea of the situation and provide their input. Having to go through a potentially very long thread could turn many people off.

This thread should be, at the bare minimum, stickied in the Trope Repair Shop. It should probably also be in the Trope Talk and maybe the Wiki Talk as well. A link can also be provided, maybe near the top with all of the other buttons. I'm not quite sure how we can do this on the wiki pages, maybe it can be linked from the left side.

Before I go on further, is there any problems with what I posted so far?

I agree with you.

So, try to find a trope page from the following indexes (including the Repair Shop):

I bring this thread from the dead via necro! BOOM!

Sorry, but I this died and I was interested. I know that The Google Incident is still in effect, but we can't put all of our resources towards it. smile

Now, I looked over the Pages Needing Wicks index and one trope stood out: Red Shirt Reporter. This one needs wicks. So, get to work on it!

And please pin this, Fast Eddie.

That thing locked me into a vicious cycle. I want to give it a better description, but because of the description that's already up, I don't know what the description is supposed to be! An expendable news reporter? Because the description doesn't say that at all.

Also, I can't begin to think about Playing With until that's fixed.

Telling by the examples, I think its a news reporter that is reporting in a dangerous life-threatening situation. And they usually die.

Oh, and it seems like it didn't went though the YKTTW.

Reading it, it's the "on-the-scene" news reporter, reporting from an incredibly dangerous situation. Whether they die or not doesn't matter to the trope; it's the fact that they're out there doing their broadcast, in a situation that any sensible person would have long since left.

It seems they always rush into the action to get the best scoop, as well. Dying doesn't seem to be a requirement.

"A reporter that often rushes into a dangerous situation in order to get the best scoop." would be the laconic, I think. The current one is wrong, implies that the reporter dies.

I like the third image, but I don't know if it will look good bigger.

Oh, and the second link is broken.

Fixed the link on the second one. And I'm not sure if the third one needs to be enlarged much. But I'm inclined to the first one, with judicious cropping.

Oh, Ok, but then the title doesn't fit the Description. :/

Ah well, at least I get it now.

EDIT: Hmmph. [down] I guess so. Kinda stretches what Redshirt means to me, but I guess it has a very slightly different meaning on this site.

They're the reporter who are apparently considered expendable (a redshirt) by the management of whatever news organization they work for.

You don't need to YKTTW a playing with page. PlayingWith.Redshirt Reporter

Click that redlink and go.
