The one thing I'd like to see above anything else in Ace Attorney 7 is Trucy being given more spotlight.
Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.Speaking of Dual Destinies, I'm not the only person who's noticed that the 3DS games use "lawyer" as a synonym for "defence attorney". For example...
- In Turnabout Countdown, Gaspen Payne says something to the effect of, "An elephant and a rhino are about as similar as a lawyer and a prosecutor."
- The Khura'inese public hates lawyers, yet they have prosecutors.
Is this a mistranslation?
Speaking of Trucy, I found an interesting post
about how subtle of a character she was in AJ and how later games apparently flanderized her.
We've also had cases where the defendant (actually) did it, the victim did it, and the defense attorney did it.
Defense assistant is still up for grabs, but I'd also like to see a case where a defendant from a previous case turn out to be the culprit of a later case. Maybe they were innocent the first time because it was a case of Framing the Guilty Party for an unrelated crime, or maybe they only became a murderer later because of their experience being tried for murder earlier.
AAI2 kind of does it with Simeon Saint, but since it's not a formal trial it doesn't really count.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!![]()

When you say "the defense attorney did it", do you mean Kristoph Gavin? Because I was referring to him with "the mentor did it". Or did you mean someone else? Maybe Calisto Yew?
Another concept I'd like to see is them bringing back a character who hasn't appeared in a while... Only for them to be killed off. Preferably after getting significant screentime in that particular game.

"The defence attorney did it" is kind of a hard one to pull off since they're, y'know, the player character.

Welcome, my little friend! Or should I say...friends?Back on-topic, another thing I'd like to see in Ace Attorney 7 is the prosecutor having an assistant in court.
From a Doylist perspective, there's no point in having a prosecution assistant unless you're playing as a prosecutor because the point of the assistant is to act as The Watson/fountain of hints for the player.
That being said, AAI comes tantalizingly close. In one case, Edgeworth and Van Karama line up behind the bench... only for the trial to be canceled. There's also the Lang/Shina thing.
I could see a game having a prosecution assistant even when you play the defence if it's just a character gimmick where they periodically get called in to provide stuff or whatever the way that Shina and Nayna did. Or Taka I guess. Technically speaking, I suppose Taka is a prosecutor's assistant.

That didn't stop Heavy Rain.
As far as twists that haven't been done go, I'd like to see one where it was actually self-defence. The series has a bizarre fixation with every defendant having to be proven 100% innocent. Even in cases where it was seemingly justified self-defence or an accident or whatever.
Another twist they could do is the victim not actually being dead, though that would be hard to pull off in a modern setting where they presumably have good forensic testing.

I've always found that weird as well. However, it does seem to be a faithful translation. The Japanese word is 弁護士 (bengoshi), which is listed on Jisho as meaning "lawyer; attorney".
The way AA uses the term, I always thought that it only applied to defence lawyers, but Jisho says that it just means "lawyer". Perhaps prosecutors aren't considered lawyers in Japan?
Also, this isn't just a 3DS thing. It is present in the entire series.

Ug, I hate when that happens in fiction. It's so common that whenever a character suddenly gets a suspicious amount of backstory or focus in an episode, you start wondering if they're going to die at the end.
I guess they technically did it with Misty Fey.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI suppose it's because prosecutors don't actually represent people in court. SOJ even has Phoenix and Apollo taking on a civil case (it turns into a murder trial but regardless).
Bewitching EyesSpeaking of twists, another twist I don't think they've done yet is the Murder On The Orient Express ending.
They could also have a case where coincidentally a lot of different people attacked the victim and it's impossible to tell who really killed the victim.
That would be a great subversion of Ace Attorney's bizarre legal system where whoever's action led to the victim's death is 100% guilty regardless of intent or chance, while anyone else is 100% innocent, even if they were attempting to kill the victim.
Like come on, we have a guy arguing in court "yes I stabbed the victim and tried to kill her, but I'm really innocent because she was coincidentally already poisoned."

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayYeah, I think the assistant / the game’s “Maya” being the culprit is the only major twist we haven’t already had.
I had a fun idea where you spend the whole game getting to know and palling around with the assistant, and then in the *second* to last case it comes out that she was the murderer.
It would be was a crime of passion, even self defense, not an Evil All Along reveal like Gavin, but she still lied and covered it up - breaking the lawyer’s trust in her to set up the *actual* last case: where while in prison/processing the assistant is accused of another murder, and despite the shattered trust the lawyer still defends her because she’s innocent this time.

@storyyeller:
That sort-of happens in The Rite of Turnabout.
That happens in Memoirs of the Clouded Kokoro. Everyone assumes Shamspeare is dead until he wakes up during the first investigation.

Damn I was about to suggest the fanmade Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Case 5: Turnabout Substitution, something almost similar to that happens — not even close though, but almost something similar

Back on-topic, another thing I'd like to see in Ace Attorney 7 is the prosecutor having an assistant in court. I like the idea of Gee I Wonder Who The Apprentice Is in The Return of the Great Departed Soul, but all he does during the trial is dodge wine glasses.
Also, Ace Attorney has already had twists where the prosecutor did it, the mentor did it, the detective did it, and the judge did it. What if in the final case of the next game, it turns out the assistant did it?
