Death Note, especially the anime. Naruto. D.Gray-Man. Code Geass. Gurren Lagann has LOTS of Ho Yay, but not the sort you like. Evangelion has only one episode of it, but damn. Same deal for Fullmetal Alchemist, and the VERY Ho Yay Katekyo Hitman Reborn.

"Just because you like show-tunes it doesn't mean you're gay, it just means you really suck." - Sue SylvesterCan we please get that general recommendation thread stickied already...Who do I ask to do this?
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan Chah^^^ Yes, but Anarchy asked for a particular kind of Ho Yay. I doubt that the bits in Gurren Lagann, for instance, count as dark, dramatic, wangsty, subtexy, and/or lusciously dripping (with the possible exception of the Hot Springs Episode for that last one).

What's precedent ever done for us?Keep the recs coming! To clarify, I was asking specifically for Mx M Ho Yay, though I never got why we have both sexes under Ho Yay when there's a subtrope specifically for just Les Yay. I mean, if we have Les Yay as a trope, doesn't it make sense to put all the males under one trope and all the females under another trope?
Also, I would check the Ho Yay anime page, only some of the examples have very minimal Ho Yay, and also I'm looking for a very specific type of Ho Yay - apart from the aforementioned Gankutsuou, something along the lines of Kuroshitsuji, CLAMP, Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles (yes, I know it's not an anime), etc, you get the drift.
FMA has Ho Yay?! I've only read the earlier manga, so no spoilers please, but are you referring to Ed/Al? :D
Also, I've read all of Death Note, but it's been awhile. Would you recommend watching the anime? Since I hear that there's more Ho Yay there than in the manga (if that's even possible)?

You guys forgot to mention Hunter X Hunter.
Then again, it's kind of lacking in the "good art" department.
Hunter X Hunter has no backgrounds!
Edit: FMA manga has almost no Ho Yay at all. The anime has a ton, though.

Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information.I love Hunter X Hunter and I adore the Ho Yay between - well - almost everyone (seriously, Killua -> Gon is pretty much canon, Hisoka is an established pedophile, Pufu -> King (one word: VORE)) and yeah. I've read every single chapter of it. I don't care about the lack of backgrounds in this (very special) case. The story and the characters are just that epic.
EDIT: You mean the first anime? How about Brotherhood? I've been hearing about how the first anime completely messed up the manga's storyline though.

As I said before, "Run, Melos!" from Blue Literature has plenty for a two episode story. Also, Get Backers is really full of Ho Yay, both the Anime and the Manga. S Cry Ed has it mixed with Foe Yay.

I'll definitely check out "Run Melos!" And I'll probably wait until I can get to a manga store for Getbackers. Dropped it halfway due to storylines having an unfortunate tendency to becoming overly complex and inflated. Regarding the FMA anime, I've just watched a few early episodes so I really can't pass judgment on it.

Fuck Ho Yay, I want yaoi recs . Skips all the needless teasing...
But seriously, and shonen manga, be it Bleach of Hunter X Hunter, and you'll find it.
New User HandleNot all Shonen manga. FMA manga, as I've mentioned, has almost none. One Piece doesn't have much either, with the notable exception of Luffy/Ace (which was only in recent arcs).
Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information.I dunno, Zoro Sanji gets some. Specially in the animé fillers.

New User HandleYeah, it seems to be a general rule that anime adaptations always have more Ho Yay (check out some of those Naruto openings). I'm not sure why that is.
Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information.Really? It would be interesting if there are studies that show that trend.
If the general rec thread is pinned, let's turn this into a Ho Yay/Yaoi discussion thread. I've had it with being lumped together with yuri.
Also, I like teasing. Straight yaoi bores me. Right now, I'm in the mood for Unresolved Sexual Tension, Cannot Spit It Out, and globs and globs of subtext that teeter precariously on the very brink of being explicitly BL.
EDIT: Ara? I can't edit the thread title.

I've been watching House Of Five Leaves lately, and it's been pinging my Ho Yay radar pretty loudly at times.
Red text? no one made a Five Leaves entry yet? Well, courtesty link.

House Of Five Leaves should totally be yaoi, but I don't think it ever is, sadly. The author does some excellent BL under the penname Basso, though (none translated, very little even scanlated).
General yaoi recs:
- Red Blinds The Foolish by Est Em, and her other two books in English, Seduce Me After the Show and Age Called Blue: excellent writing, pretty much the "literary short stories" end of the BL pool, with an unusual alterna/indie art style (not so unusual for Japanese BL, actually, but very rare for BL over here)
- Future Lovers by Saika Kunieda: charming, humorous odd-couple relationship, with very engaging characters and a strong story
- Ze by Yuki Shimizu (author of Love Mode): ensemble-cast soap opera about magic users and their artificially created "helpers"; angsty and comedic by turns, depending on which couple is in the spotlight, and quite smutty...
- Totally Captivated by Hajin Yoo (manhua): a little bit of comedy, a little bit of angst, not as much smut as there could be, but an engagingly dysfunctional relationship (they work it out in the end)
- U Don't Know Me by Rakun (also manhua): very sexy, strong story and characterization, not super-fond of the art but the characters and their relationship carry the book
- Cute Devil by Hiro Madarame: shy megane gets a love confession from the school "princess", a cute little guy with golden curls and an adorably innocent face, but turns him down flat. Unfortunately for him, little cutie is 100% seme and eeeeevil, so cutie drags megane off to a secluded spot and does what semes do best. Fluffy comedy with a smattering of smut. (I love this one because the uke is exactly my favorite type of uke: clueless, studious, glasses, dark hair... yum. Also, when the seme gets his growth spurt and grows up a little: the hawtnez!)
- A Love Song For The Miserable by Yukimura: sweet fluffy story about a depressive salaryman who falls in love, totally botches it, and has to convince the other guy to take him back. Needs More Love; it's great but got no attention and sold like snow in Alaska...
- And many, many, many others.

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Er, the OP asked for Ho Yay. You know, subtext.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.@ Sporkaganza: Responding to A H R, post 13.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Oh, my bad.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.Seconding Death Note and Code Geass. Both of which give the impression that the production teams are entirely aware of what they are doing, even if they never come out and say it. Though some of the post-series interviews from Code Geass have some... interesting comments.
Okay, so I just finished Gankutsuou and I am proud to announce that it has completely, irreversibly revived my dormant Ho Yay addiction. In short, I am craving more Ho Yay in the style of Gankutsuou, as in: dark, dramatic, wangsty, subtexy, lusciously dripping Ho Yay, minus annoying idiot protagonist. Good art is a must. Vampires are optional.
Recommend away!
