But then given previous pages, it's probably going to just go all serious again. Ow my metaphorical neck.
At last, plot.
Its like a completely serious fantasy comic that someone just photoshopped a wacky warlock into. Richard and comedy feel like they're a foreign addition to the comic.
It is.
I hear quite a few people saying the problem with the comic is it has gone from comedy to serious, but in my view the problem is it's trying to pretend it hasn't. Richard can be funny but sometimes, like this, he just feels like he's been given a line because there isn't a joke in the strip.
Edit: On a more positive note, however, I find myself wondering if the commander is undergoing a Heel–Face Turn in remorse over killing an old friend?

Long time for remorse.
How long has it been since we saw him last?
I don't think that's enough table to flip for this situation.
According to the oh so subtle foreshadowing of time travel, I'm gonna say decades.

Somehow that just looks wrong. And Richard manages to ruin it even more.
Yeah. The Mood Dissonance has finally gotten to me. It's off my bookmarks.
Yeah, how dare the writers add in comedy to keep the readers at ease amidst all the darkness and depression. Obviously drama and tragedy are the only viable forms of entertainment.
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.That-only-works-when-the-comedy-is-skilfully-woven-in-amongst-the-darkness,-enhancing-the-impact-of-both.-The-stuff-in-Looking-For-Group-ain't.
(Apologies,-my-space-bar-has-conked-out).
What's precedent ever done for us?The problem with Richard is that he's often a distraction from something even funnier that they're afraid was too subtle for their readers.
Not to mention, by now someone in the party would have worked out how to get him to shut up for five minutes.
He has his moments, the whole blowing up the mountain stuff was excellent, but they try to force far too many of them and it stops working.
Comic relief != Mood Dissonance. Having a comedic character manually ruin the mood of a dramatic moment, constantly, means what you have is neither funny nor dramatic.
My main issue is that the dramatic stuff is not interesting in the least. Now that Cerebus Syndrome is complete, there isn't much left for me to enjoy.
Oddly, it's not Richard's constant jokes that gets me, it's the lack of comedic reciprocity. Bugs Bunny would pull similar stunts to Richard (sans gore) but he was never above being tricked, mocked, or put in peril, and his comedic turning of the tables always seemed funnier for it. Richard is just a walking one way joke dispenser, laughs are rarely had at his expense. Though when they are, it's to disable him as a Sidekick Ex Machina (when his head was used as a door ornament).
Well, at least the calling-out has backing.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987EPIC BLOODRAGE FISTBUMP!
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.Cute squid.
So after various undead-related hijinks (which I won't bother linking to), we now return to Pella and-- wait. Is that what I think it is?

"I've come to the conclusion that this is a very stupid idea."The sword of 80% probability? Yes, I think it is.
Hmm. Admittedly, the sixth panel is kinda cute with Richard and the bunny.
