It's true: the popular foaming-at-the-mouth Internet personality and simile enthusiast Yahtzee Croshaw has written a novel, and wouldn't you know it, it is just brilliant. It's witty, it's well-written, and it has the most subversive "schoolboy" sense of humor I've ever read outside of Douglas Adams. I read the first chapter last night, and I couldn't make it past the third page without putting the book down because I was laughing too hard and didn't want to spit on it.

The only downside it that it's only available in paperback as yet.

Has anyone else picked it up? If not, it's well worth it.

It intrigues me. I might try to get hold of it.

I'm suspicious after Yahtzee's statement that he hates to give his protagonists happy endings, and after how that was applied in the Chzo Mythos.

Well, I'm still on the second chapter, so I dunno about that yet.

So far, though, there's been at least one really great laugh per page.

I bought it a couple days back. It's dedicated to the three months of his life he lost to World Of Warcraft, and I can see why. The book, at least in the fifty or so pages I've read so far, does some serious Lampshade Hanging on the tropes and settings used in MMORP Gs (or "mem-or-pig-ez" as Yahtzee would pronounce it). Death Is a Slap on the Wrist is a constant in the setting, for example.

It's fun, but I wouldn't say "brilliant" yet. It's a steep hill to get to Douglas Adams level of fantastic-awesomeness.

I'm intrigued by this, I'll probably get it at some point. I've always really liked Yahtzee's style of humour, even if he's horribly insulting a game that I love.

I have a podcast! I think that you should listen to it.

I grabbed this a couple days ago. It's been awhile since a book's made me laugh out loud like this. grin

Do we have an article for this? Mogworld. Hey, we do.

Yeah, I actually made that (or started it, really). I feel proud. grin

I'm at the fifth chapter now. Is Slippery John supposed to look like Westley?

Thread Necro!

Just got my copy and am devouring it as fast as I can with all the other scholarship I am trying to digest right now. (God I am exhausted of college.)

But anyway, I got it from Abebooks.com, where I get almost all my books in anticipation for his new book coming out this year called Jam.

So far I am loving it because if nothing else, it's something fresh and different. How many video game books out there are genuinely good? Let alone original? This is the first I have seen and I am appreciating it!
