I remember being very annoyed when Byakuya beat him and like four other people offscreen.
Unohana and Ukitake definitely deserved better.
Byakuya is powered by the legions of fangirls who love him. He can't be stopped
So he’s like Mask de Masculine except his supporters are on the other side of the fourth wall and many of them are horny?
Chad should have been able to go full Guyver.
Rangiku's ash powers should have been something akin to Skullion Raider from Fairy Tail.
Rukia's bankai should have had more screen time.
Harribel should have not have been reduced to a damsel in distress in the final arc.
So Renji and Hisagi needed more fangirls on the other side?

I mean, Renji got his Royal Guard training and trashed him pretty easily so he clearly has something sizeable.
Byakuya should have died to As Nodt. Would have made Rukia fighting him later have a lot more weight.
I think Kubo wanted to do it but ultimately didn't have the guts to face the fangirl wrath.
Byakuya absolutely should have died. It was qn smazing scene and the character it could have given Renji and Rukia would have been great.
Why is this worded like Mask's fans aren't horny?
Byakuya’s survival certainly contributed to Bleach being rather toothless despite all the violence.
I don't know if James was specifically horny.
Making people horny was Pepe's shtick.
Would anyone have been okay if Zanpakuto special abilities didn't exist and the Shinigami just fought with shunpo, sword fighting, martial arts and kido?
I would have been more than okay with that. It would have made battles more about pure skill than simply who was lucky enough to get the better hax ability in any given battle. Perhaps the more unique Shikai/Bankai could have been repurposed as kido.

I can understand why some would prefer the Zanpakuto abilities to not have been included, but I very much like them. They had more flare to the fights, and there is also how the powers of a Zanpakuto are reflective of the Shingami. Personality Powers is one of my favorite tropes.
Did we ever get a history on kido? Like say, who invented it?
I don't think so, at least not directly. My guess is that if it didn't originate from the Soul King somehow, it was either Ichibei or Yamamoto that invented it, with Ichibei being more likely to me since he was the one to name all things in Soul Society.
Also, I think not having shikai and bankai in the story would make the lack of Yoruichi's zanpakuto and what it did less glaring.
I think that's a minor issue, and would rather that be addressed in story.
Re-reading the Soul Society arc, I do like Ichigo's battles a lot against foes without unique Zanpakuto powers, but I'm not sure how long that could go on and still be interesting. It'd probably cut down on the number of secondary characters fighting because they have less powers to show off, which would be good for the pacing.
But I think Shikai/Bankai are all pretty interesting and the personality powers aspect as cool, it'd be a pretty big loss to cut all of that. I'd prefer that the Shikai and Bankai were retained, but aspects like hakuda, zanjutsu and kido were more pronounced so that we'd have a mix.

Shikai and Bankai are one of the most iconic things about Bleach, and frequently one of its better conceived elements. Getting rid of them would improve nothing, certainly not in the way you'd think.
And if you're going to say this, I'd ask what makes you think Kubo wouldn't invent a bunch of "hax" kido spells instead.

Oh, I'm very sure he would, probably creating one specifically designed to resolve a situation at any given moment. Unless the kido were nailed down right from the start with a chart detailing 1-99 or whatever with each category (even if only created behind the scenes and not shared outright), they'd be invented on the fly and given an arbitrary number as the story demands it. At the very least it would give the illusion of everyone's potential being on the same level, as any character could at least learn the kido if they trained for it.

Johnny Yong Bosch has signed a petition to bring the anime back.
Great for him. I wouldn't be surprised if it never happened, but the thought is what counts.
Aizen being the villain and Gin just being a decoy was a last minute change by Kubo, right? Assuming that is true, and not just a matter of one of those "the author said" things, I'm curious how much of his plan he actually changed because of that.
It's mostly just a 'the author said' thing. I say mostly because there is a quote floating around out there where he says that he decided to 'kill' Aizen and do a murder mystery plot before he decided who the killer was. Which is people often misinterpreted to mean 'Kubo didn't plan to make Aizen the villain until after killing him off'. And then they overextend that to imply what you said.
But, for my money, Gin was far too Obviously Evil for him to ever be planned as anything other than a Red Herring. Like he was the first person I decided definitely didn't kill Aizen when the question was first posed.
I wouldn't be all that surprised if it was a thing Kubo made up on the spot considering how it seems the industry works. That being said, I'd say it was better for Aizen to be the culprit, though I also wonder what the original plans were if Gin was originally going to be the killer.
