As nice as the infamous double helix would be... it takes considerable work to get it right, maybe something more symbolic?

I like the double helix idea, although that's a LOT of dyed wool. (easier to do in creative mode, I'd imagine.)

As I said, the best I can seem to come up with is converting that picture sequence of humans evolving from apes into pixel art and than carving it into a cliff.

It's kind of hard to encapsulate the idea of evolution into a single thing.

Perhaps some kind of monument to Archaeopteryx?

EDIT: Just to provide some context. This is an ongoing argument that has lasted several days now. Today this popped up in the news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12393387

I say to Mum "Look at this news! You keep claiming there is no evidence of evolution across species but here is a new one - a fossil showing a snake half way through evolving away it's legs."

And Mum promptly says to me: "No they haven't"

I say: "Yes they have, they have photos and internal scans and studies. See? Proof!"

And Mum, refusing to even look at it promptly says to me that all such things have been manipulated, no REAL proof has ever been found and storms out.

You can see why I'm rather annoyed. Of course this is the same woman who argues that Evolution is a religious theory so I'm not sure why I'm even bothering but still....

How the hell are you supposed to have reasoned discussion with someone who refuses to look at evidence and calls evolution religious?

Honestly I kinda like the DNA model.

It says "Life is made from a series of complex molecular structures and chemical reactions, not dirt you idiots."

I'm all fine with building evolutionary monuments but please remember that some Minecraft players have different beliefs than others. I don't appreciate the "idiots" comment. Thank you.

Also Blue: I loled. I might do that. hahah :)

Don't worry, such a thing if ever constructed will be built in SP not Multi.

I stand by my previous comments that the server should remain a neutral place.

Yes, dirt! But you have to make your own dirt for use, first. [lol]

Seriously, the DNA helix would be a fine build. Maybe include it being split and new bases being added to the split strands.

Religion and science are not mutually exclusive, right?

@Fargle Maybe this would be helpful.

Religion and science should not be mutually exclusive, but nor should they be conflated and treated as the same.

Thanks for the link Avi, that should be excellent.

See that's where the argument started. My parents supporting a politician in Northern Ireland who wants Young Earth Creationism taught alongside Evolution in Science classes.

Their entire (in complete defiance of all logic, reasoning and rational thinking) argument basically boiled down to them claiming that there was no evidence for evolution and that Young Earth Creationism was an equally valid scientific theory.

Can you believe that?

Now, I'm not going to stand here and say that kids shouldn't be taught about how people believe in young earth creationism but FFS, teach in it freaking Religious Studies where it bloody belongs. Don't ever stand there and dare to say to me that it is science.

/rant over

And yes, there will be pictures.

Lol. Then the'd need to teach Old-Earth Creationism as well, as I think YEC has a whole bunch of holes, more so than OEC.

Well, The Bible shouldn't be teached as fact in school. You could however use it as a reference or something... just throwing it away seems too wasteful.

Flying Spaghetti Monster might be relevant here.

I'd rather see horses. I think everyone wants a ridable horse.

In other news, I finally managed to churn out some half-block roads foot-paths so I can traverse the map a little easier. And find my way to my house. But, that didn't burn up my cobblestone enough, so I set about clearing some land and making a small fort adjacent to my house. Probably for deco, or as a sturdy night shelter when I ramp up difficulty, iunno.

Imagine my surprise when I actually ran out of cobblestone...! So I went into a natural cavern not far away for the sole purpose of mining more cobblestone. Finished the outer structure and set about figuring out how to use redstone circuits so I could open both of the outer iron doors with a single switch. That was fun.

Earlier, the game glitched on me, and when I rebooted it, I had spawned in solid rock, so I died. Eventually. That sucked, but at least I wasn't carrying any high-value ore. Had to make another diamond pickaxe though (won't use diamonds for anything else).
