I love ravines especially when I find one right near the bottom of the map. Though five witches, skeletons and zombies all at once wasn't so fun the last time I found one.

Just a heads up for server maintainers; there is a crapton of drama with Bukkit/Spiggot right now. TLDR version: most official downloads are currently down due to a disgruntled Bukkit dev sending out DMCA takedowns (that have no merit, based on knowledgeable people I've talked to, but will still take time to sort out), Spiggot has an active workaround and you should go to their site to find out how to get updates and verify any third-party builds.

A lot of the drama is tainted by loud and dumb people who have nothing directly to do with either involved party. Not to be believed are statements such as "Mojang wants to kill X to promote Realms", "Minecraft is gonna be dead because of this", and in general, accusations of Mojang being malicious.

Less TLDR: The current maintainer of Bukkit announced that he wanted to close the project. Mojang chimes in and goes "Uh, when we acquired you guys, we also got the rights to the project so it's not yours to close; we'll take it over if you want to step down." Maintainer goes "oh, right, okay." Rest of bukkit devs who joined after the acquisition go "WTF, we didn't know this", most resign, hurt feeling all around. One dev tries to claim the open source licence is invalid and files DMCA takedowns against Bukkit and its sister projects. Mojang's latest word is "The takedowns have no merit, and he's trying to imply we sanctioned the takedown which is not true, besides that we're still trying to figure out what to do because we've been super busy with the update and console launches, oh and we're kinda sorry we neglected the project."

I finally found a village! They seem like nice folks. I think I desecrated their church, though.

Ooh, nice. Villagers are fun.

I like to build a fence around the perimeter to keep zombies out. Of course, then you gotta light up the whole inside of the perimeter, including on rooftops.

That awkward moment when you see diamonds, but can't reach them because of bedrock/lava getting between you and them.

I only have 5 diamonds. It really kinda sucks, and there's not much I can make with that.

You've got enough for a sword and a pick. That's pretty good.

Or you could make a hat

5 is enough for an enchantment table.

[up]Technically, since you need a Diamond Pick to mine obsidian, an Enchanting table requires 6 Diamonds, though the crafting recipe only needs 3.

You only need 2 diamonds for the enchant table's recipe. 2 diamonds, a book, 4 obsidian.

You know you can block out lava just like you can with water, right?

Oh, I'm aware.

I just can't get to it through the bedrock.

Do we have a working Minecraft server these days? Shoot me a PM if we do, those cosmetic add-ons like banners and such caught my eye.

There's always a way around bedrock, you know. If the diamonds were truly trapped you wouldn't be able to see them.

Anyway, 5 is just enough. A diamond pick to mine 14 obsidian, and two leftovers to make an enchantment table. Any further diamonds you get are for swords and armor pretty much, which are useful but not as high-priority as the other two objects.

Well, I might've overdone it with ramping up the ore generation on this world. It's only day three or so and I've got a hundred diamonds...

Microsoft is thinking of buying Mojang.

...

WHAT

Also, just noticed the WSJ article is under paywall. Here is a Kotaku link.

I'm almost certain it'll never happen. Notch owns the whole company as far as I know (Edit: a majority share, which is close enough), and he's publicly spoken against Microsoft's policies, as well as his intent to keep the company going for at least ten years.

IT really does come down to how much Microsoft is willing to pay.

And if Notch can be bribed by 12-digit numbers.

Let's be honest, being offered billions of dollars for something would be pretty hard for anyone to turn down. That's a ludicrous amount of money.

I'd like to think notch won't go for it though.

Found a pretty awesome cave system. Iron, gold, redstone, even some lapis lazuli. Of course, this is slightly negated by the fact that I am lost as fuck in this thing and have no idea which direction is up.

Be like me when I had a nether portal spawn in the middle of a cave full of skellies and endermen—dig up! I hope you have enough pickaxes.

But anyway, is this cave so winding and overlapping that it makes it impossible to follow any markers you put down?
