It was more shown in an experiment where participants were asked to rate whether they would hire someone based on whether they were not told they were disabled, told they were disabled, told they were blind, or told they were special needs. The special needs group was consistently least likely to be hired across all age groups.
I think Mom uses it because of the autistic Mom group she is with. Two of them refer to their kids as "special needs" instead of autistic, and they once invited us to a Christian prom night for special needs kids where the parents could watch them dance. We declined partly because of the terminology they used.

I think this might be my first case of using the Political Correctness Gone Mad trope, but that kind of bullshit is what exactly I'd HATE to see.

Every single time I read Chapter 70 I cry at the fact Wukong killed the little demon.
Frick you, Wukong, he was a good boy.
And the freaking translation I'm reading called him Gocome.
What kind of horrible name is Gocome.
His name is "Can go, Can Return".
Wait, did they just translate the cave as Horndog Cave? What in the frick?!?
Do you know what the OG text says? XIEZHI CAVE. Xiezhi are mystical beasts, and that translation has made it horrible.

If there's a book you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. Toni MorrisonDamn, i passed the fuck about and wake up to see hoes don't know Square Enix main source of income
One day you're here, baby / And then you're gone.....I barely know what Square Enix is.
No more Mr. Nice Guy / No more Mr. Clean / No more Mr. Nice Guy / They say, "he's sick, he's obscene!"I gathered that much.
What are they known for?
No more Mr. Nice Guy / No more Mr. Clean / No more Mr. Nice Guy / They say, "he's sick, he's obscene!" A square-shaped Enix creature - No, not that. They made a game known as Life is Strange and it got majorly popular.
To be fair, I barely know what Life Is Strange is either.
No more Mr. Nice Guy / No more Mr. Clean / No more Mr. Nice Guy / They say, "he's sick, he's obscene!"....
Look! It's loud, distracting music!

people described as "special needs" are more regularly passed up for jobs than people described as "disabled"
for a moment mom started using "disabled" instead at my request
she's reverted to "special needs"
