"Were you not listening?" The red-clad woman rolled her eyes, growling out her reply. "I don't know the odds of survival, which is one of the reasons we're here in the first place. Obviously, if they're not within the standard margin-"

"Good day, you two must be the new recruits. Come on board, please."

She was used to boring, uncomfortable interstellar travel in zero-gravity. That was nothing new. She was used to her infinitely-negative friend's dour remarks. Those were also nothing new; she dealt with him nearly every day when on assignment, and even if she would never admit it, she had gotten used to his constant deadpan. So for the first time that day, the one in red was truly surprised and honestly annoyed. Supposing the Doctor might feel entitled to some meager feeling of pride for her accomplishments, however, she decided to cut the other woman some slack... maybe.

"Good day. I thank you for the welcome, but I am afraid you are under the wrong impression, Dr. Onaki." Her tone was cool and matter-of-fact, words extracted with the kind of clinical precision that might be expected of an experimenter observing an exceedingly average lab specimen. "We are not new recruits. My partner and I were drawn to your lab merely for the purpose of observing the results of your experiments. I've found your work on Flow Drives in particular to be very intriguing, and as a fellow scientist, I felt obligated to assess the veracity of your data for myself. As you will find when you inspect our credentials upon landing, however, the authority of my unit far outstrips that of the Fifth Circle or yourself. If you will, please think of us as... guests."

"I see." Dr. Onaki rolled her eyes, though for obvious reasons, the pilots could not see such. "Well then, I welcome our guests with great enthusiasm."

"This constant posturing is irksome," The Pilot scratched his right ear, "Can we learn to get along or should I pull out a ruler for the pissing contest?"

Even if she agreed with his sentiment, the long-haired woman decided his comment warranted a whack on the head, which she quickly administered. "Have some decorum, at least," she hissed, then sighed.

"I do apologize if that came off as condescending, Dr. Onaki" she returned to addressing the older woman, this time in a manner that was clearly much more sincere, "I simply wanted to be certain that the autonomy of my partner and I in this matter was not an object of dispute. Frankly, I have no interest in talking down to you in any fashion, Doctor. I would much rather we discuss your findings as professionals on equal footing, and I believe your work holds great promise."

"Hmm. My findings yes, now are we going to chat over the intercom or will you come inside the Hephaestus?" The Doctor's tone was one of humor—and perhaps light mocking, too. "It's better to discuss such things face to face."

"Don't antagonize people with your Decorum," The pilot sighed flipping off the radio, "It's a sign of the way society is going. Repelling people from culture and politeness because it's so uptight and into the open arms of the punks. Your uptight overly formal 'decorum' is slowly killing Decorum as we know it!"

"Docking..."

He emerged, dressed in clothes that were an anachronism; 50 years ago they would be in fashion and actually rather nice and formal. Now they were... out of place to say the best. On his eyes were glasses, but they way he wore them made it clear he didn't need them, he just enjoyed the novelty. His hair was ragged, roughly combed to the right. Clearly of some sort of Asian descent, porbably a Cent by his accent but maybe a Fed. Edenite or Illionese would be the first two guesses given, but his clothing was gathered from everywhere, from Gandor to Celadon.

He was an interesting sight, to say the least. Distinctive, certainly a starving artist to some degree or another.

Comm person

"Just a moment sir." The officer accessed the personnel files, running a search for G. Leon. "According to this, Eight Knight Leon is assigned to room 118 on Deck 7."

Issac Alesci

"I see! Thank you very much, good sir." After a few more seconds, the Praetorian infiltrator hung up, lugging the bags to the thankfully nearby room 118. Setting them gently on the singular bed, he wondered for a moment where Roxy was. I still haven't had that talk with her, have I? Maybe I'll go find her after this little mystery is dealt with... Now, Gabriel Leon, reveal your secrets!

Smirking, Issac unzipped the first, heavier bag, rifling around inside and searching for anything unfamiliar or suspicious. He was careful to make sure everything appeared to be as it had been before he examined it. Not that it would matter if the 8th Knight knew or remained blissfully ignorant, but it was just easier not to deal with annoying questions. He didn't bother scrutinizing any particularly mundane objects too closely; that task could be saved for the evening.

Red-Clad Woman

"No, certainly not." The crimson-garbed woman briefly fixed her companion with a withering glare. She wanted to openly criticize him for eschewing his uniform as well, but there was no need for the Hephaestus personnel to know any more about their unit than was necessary.

"Ah, but I suppose an introduction would be appropriate." She indicated herself with a hand. "I am called War, and that-" she jabbed a finger at the bizarrely-dressed man at her side "-is Pestilence. Of course, I already know who you are, Dr. Onaki." 'War' nodded, and motioned to Utnapishtim. "I presume the girl beside you is the infamous Subject U?"

Utnapishtim scowled and muttered something under her breath about nosy humans.

"Yes, that's Utnapishtim. Her partner is somewhere onboard as well, though at the moment I am not entirely certain where. No matter, she'll pop up momentarily I'm certain."

Dr. Onaki leaned in a bit while Utnapishtim studied her feet intensely. "It would be wise to not provoke Subject U or her partner, they're both very volatile." The message was delivered in the utmost seriousness in a very low voice, and while Utnapishtim's ears twitched, there was no indication she'd heard.

Of course, she had heard, and was already thinking up ways to kill the two new humans in her presence. They didn't seem to be her kind, they weren't someone she would have to deal with, would she? The very thought made her shudder.

Her Comrade sighed. Part of him wanted to take satisfaction in having annoyed War, but he quickly shifted from seeing her as a source of sanity to simply being irksome and ultimately where he stood now; Apathy.

Her ticked off just meant more trouble for him.

Her Happy just meant more trouble for him.

He was sort of hoping one of these days, she'd learn the virtues of Apathy.

However she was in good company, it seemed. Her and the one who greeted them were of the same type and style. One he wasn't fond of. But it was only a matter of time before War toppled her in a battle of trivia, starting another spat that would get them sent elsewhere.

This endless cycle of ego boosting at the expense of more powerful people was something he'd also grown very tired of. He'd like to be assigned with a suck-up just once. Ideally one ranked under him.

The U-girl on the otherhand was odd. He prefered more straight forward ones and he already didn't trust her. At least with the two Scientists they knew how to play out their roles like he did. They all had clear types, each person set in their position like a deck of cards, their value and roles were clear depending on the game being played. But no, the Girl had to be a Joker, just doing what she pleased.

Gerry jogged into the briefing room, berating himself for his tardiness. He had gotten so distracted by ensuring that his Frame was alright and tending to it that he had lost track of time - not exactly the most auspicious thing he had done in his service to the Federation. Nodding sheepishly as a greeting, he sat down with his fellow Frame pilots, wishing for a few moments that he could somehow kick himself for his idiocy.

Looking furtively over to whomever was closest to him, he asked, "What did I miss?"

— Natalie Romelia —

Natalie Romelia walked into the room.

"I apologize for my lateness, I was assisting an MP with his investigation."

— Mikal Quasp —

After about an hour of leading her cousin through town, Kara pulled up and sighed.

"'Pray to God for the strength to change what you can, to persevere through what you cannot, and for the wisdom to tell the difference.' Well, you probably know you who I heard that from."

"Your point?"

"Good god you're difficult," Kara replied, clearly annoyed. "I think you can fix your self-image problems, but don't try to change your self-image if don't honestly think you can. If the only thing that you think you can do is maim, rend and tear, then just deal with it. Maim and tear what you think deserves it, and if you can't see anything worth killing, find something else. Go beat up criminals or something. Go hunt some of the insane wildlife on the frontier."

Kara's frustration had started building. "If you're worried about killing another innocent life, then just make sure you're the one who gets the final call on who lives and dies. And stop fearing the ability itself. Keeping everything bottled up like that is probably what's causing these breakdowns. Everyone has a fight or flight response, you're just so afraid of yours that you can't keep it under control. You never had this problem during your stint in the special forces, did you?"

Mikal tried to say "well no," but the words never got out before Kara continued, though with a notably milder tone, "You also never had this problem during high school. You had purpose, you knew what to do and what not to do, and we both kept each other in check. You didn't over think it, though, that's probably what was most important for you. So I guess just worry less about being able to pull back at the last minute, just remember that you've done it before."

"I'll think abou-" Mikal replied before cutting himself off, realizing what he was saying. He wasn't totally convinced but neither his cousin nor the person she had quoted had ever been wrong when it came to emotional advice.

"'Sides," Kara continued, "It'd be a waste for you to drop out of the game completely. You always were better at the whole thing than I was."

"Huh?" Mikal replied, confused. He'd never beaten his cousin in a fight, from mundane sparring to other times that Mikal would rather not recall, especially since the two of them seemed to be having a bit of a moment. Bringing up accusations of murder would not be fitting.

"I could take you any day of the week, but you always had the head for this sort of thing. Like the time you convinced that security guard that you walked into the store with a limited edition hat that still had the tag on, only to prove to the owner that his security team needed retraining. You had the mental aspects down better than I ever did."

"Is that so..." Mikal had already brought to mind the incident with Moral... Moral something. Not important. "I said I'll think about it, I guess I mean it this time. By the way," Mikal said, looking across the street past a rather loud vendor, "we making a move soon or what. This guy's not exactly pretty to look at. Bit familiar looking though. Hard to tell through completely not conspicuous sunglasses, muffler, and hat though."

"He'll turn left soon. I arranged a police blockade to keep that street clear. You remember that alleyway?"

"The third was the one I reported, remember?" Mikal quipped. "Anyway, thanks, Ane-ue. I really didn't deserve you still babysitting me like this."

"The hell are you getting sentimental now for?" Up ahead, Jaedong Lee turned the corner.

"It's time," Kara said, her tone had gone from annoying to serious, with intermediate state. "You're going around to hit him from the side, I'm going up the center. We can bring him in dead or alive." She turned and looked Mikal straight in the eyes. "You've got the call."

"Got it. I'm all set." Mikal turned off the main sidewalk into an alleyway. As she turned the corner, Kara began walking with a faster pace, closing the distance between herself and Jaedong.

Jaedong continued down the street, secretly smouldering inside his absurd disguise. It was a temperate world approaching summertime but he was forced to dress up as if it were sub-thirty degrees, all just so that he wouldn't be recognized. He was already feeling terrible with sweat sticking to the inside of his garments, and he still had a while to go until his target. To make matters worse, he was armed with nothing but a small handgun, which might as well have been a hammer considering how accurately he could fire it.

The trip planetside wasn't all without a purpose. The latest frame this particular company had come up with was an excellent piece of work. Nothing like the run-of-the-mill Federation or Confederate models. This company created models that could actually keep up with his abilities. An impressive piece of engineering as far as he was concerned.

Jaedong checked his six before turning the corner. Unlike the rest of his costume. his sunglasses actually served their intended purpose instead of being used just to hide his face. Thanks to the filtered light, he spotted a lone girl quickening her pace towards him. It was the same girl that he'd spotted a few minutes ago behind him. That could mean that this girl was walking the same path as him at exactly the same walking speed as him through a back alley (unlikely), or she was tracking him. He put his money on the latter

Jaedong weighed his options. Option A: Use the gun, hoping his aiming skills would come to life out of nowhere. Option B: abort the mission and return to his frame. Again, the latter seemed the better choice. Jaedong sped up his pace down the street, resting his hand on the hidden gun's barrel.

An eager gleam came into Gabriel's eyes as he heard Alexei, and his mouth crinkled into a small smile. " Excellent." He said widening his grin. " No glory in beating an opponent unless it's a challenge." He turned back to Earl. " Well, it appears we'll have to try it a different time." He said with some disappointment. " But I'll hold you to a match, Knight Vielliard." He laughed before looking back at the white-haired Trio Knight.
