[up][up]I suppose Spelunky would meet those criteria.

[up][up] Mm, i did play VVVVVV. Cute, but short. The mechanics are easy but may be kinda simple for my request.

[up] Spelunky does look like what i am searching for.

so what do you call a game like dwarf fortress or ultima or exile 1-3. specifically not randomized, but a fixed map and storyline, that is in the tilebased classic roguelike/rpg style. top down pixel art or ascii and single player, not a MUD.

what are some examples? and how can i search for these in google in a relatively un-convoluted manner?

Are there any legitimately good Android RPGs or tactical/strategy games? There is a seemingly endless amount of "free" games that are all supposedly highly rated. Like at a glance, a game supposedly about realistic World War 2 tactics features tanks out of Command & Conquer.

In my experience, the Android RPG market is oversaturated with cookie-cutter, pay-to-win, poorly translated Korean animufests. Emulation seems the best bet. (Fire Emblem 7 FTW.)

it seems like you can't easily decide on which game to play. Just try them all and enjoy yourselves!

Can someone point me a good turn-based strategy war game in the veins of Advance Wars? I like how it behaves differently from Fire Emblem and similars in certain aspects like emphasis on battlefield management and unit production (not confining you to what you get at the start of a battle).

[up]Yggdra Union might be what you want, it has often been compared to both Fire Emblem (fixed storyline, limited maps) and Advance Wars (visually, although they are completely different). It's also a good starting point if you want to explore the Dept Heaven series.

A good Android RPG would be Pixel Dungeon. Beware severe difficulty, but ultimately an amazing game.

I could say something good here, but I won't.

A friend and I are trying to find PC games to play online together. We played Hearthstone tonight because she's been wanting to find someone to play against, and it's free, but we're looking for others to play as well. Neither of us have money to buy new games right now (but I might soon, and I may be able to talk her into letting me buy her the Portal dualogy), and we don't have much of anything else mutually in our libraries.

I've pointed out Team Fortress 2 to her and I'm waiting for her to tell me if it's something she's interested in. She does have a strong interest in zombies, so if money became available we could potentially play Left 4 Dead, but neither of us own that.

Any suggestions for games that are free or cheap and good for playing in pairs?

Relatively cheap is the virtual board game 100% Orange Juice, which I really like. The 4-pack is currently discounted, so you can get that and have two extra copies to trade to others. (This game is on Steam.)

Looking for a really fast paced platformer. PC is preferred, but Wii, Gamecube, N64, DS, and GBA are acceptable.I already own Cloudbuilt and Freedom Planet (both are a little hard for my tastes). I've got all the available Sonic games as well.

Also, are there any collectathon platformers that have come out in recent years? (Collectathons being games like Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Psychonauts, etc.) The Mario Galaxy games are all I can think of, of which I own both. I feel like I'm just waiting for A Hat In Time to come out.

Have you tried Dustforce, the Meat Boy games, the various Knytt Stories levels, or n?

Super Meat Boy was awesome, though ran choppily and was incredibly tough, I couldn't get used to the controls in Dustforce, and I enjoyed Knytt Stories, though I wouldn't really consider it a fast paced game. I'll check out N.

Yep, played through every stage in both Origins and Legends, including the Land of the Livid Dead. Fantastic games.

Could someone here tell me if there's a sidescroller on the same vein as Megaman Zero? It would be much apreciated.

I'm not creative enough to come up with a signature line yet.

Rayman Origins and Legends are great. I've completed every level of Origins except Land of the Livid Dead, and I'm progressing through Legends now.

On another note, I'm looking for good RP Gs for the Wii U. Does anyone have any ideas? My favorite RP Gs include Earth Bound, Mother 3, and Ni No Kuni, if that helps.

Thirding Rayman Legends. The rest of the series is incredible, too. (My favorite has to be either Origins or Hoodlum Havoc.)

Also, if anyone's in the market for a rad puzzle-platformer, do yourself a favor and try out Tiny And Big, because it's a gem that needs more love.

I was recently given a new Android smartphone (a Doogee, with which I'm rather happy), and I'm looking for some games to play on it. However, I'm a little new to the Play Store, and while I've hunted through the lists I've yet to come up with games that I'm confident are actually any good. Hence I come here, hoping for recommendations!

A few ideas as to what I might like:

  • Gameplay genres that might interest me:

  • The price should be $5 or less (free works very well!)
    • I realise that this is a potentially-significant issue. :/

  • Setting/Narrative genres that I'm interested in:
    • Fantasy
    • Horror
    • Perhaps what might be called "mysterious adventure"—think of games like Myst

I'm probably excluding some things that I'd enjoy—I'm not sure that the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games would fit, for example, although I have enjoyed those of them that I've played. As a result, I'm open to suggestions outside of the above!

Things that I'm not interested in at the moment:

  • Jump-scares
  • "Find all the items"-style gameplay, a-la-Slender
  • Platformers (I have nothing against them, they're just not what I'm looking for)
  • Endless runners
  • Combat mechanics that are based heavily on random numbers rather than player skill (as, for example, in the original Rogue)
  • Hidden Object games

I realise that this request may be a bit nebulous, for which I apologise!

My thanks for any suggestions. ^_^

Threes! is the quintessential mobile puzzle game. Its price is initially daunting, being $3 or $2, but it's ad-free, polished to all hell and highly, highly addictive.
