It's not exactly a game, but everyone with an iphone or Android needs to play Hope: The Other Side of Adventure.
Fresh-eyed movie blogIf you're interested in something relatively story-heavy, then there's the great SNES RP Gs, Final Fantasy IV through VI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG, Terranigma, and such. Of the ones I named, FFIV, FFVI, CT, and SMRPG are relatively easy.
I recently played To The Moon and showed it to my girlfriend, who also went on to play through it. She's not a gamer, and this was the first game she ever finished. She would like to find more games like To The Moon - and so would I.
I'm looking for games that are heavy on the plot. They should not have much action, and preferably no fight sequences. We'd like something that might make us cry - something with a beautiful story and, if possible, beautiful gameplay as well.
She doesn't like sci-fi or fantasy settings but I think she'll get over it if the plot and characters are immersive enough.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Dear Esther.
Don't play Dear Esther. Never play Dear Esther.
To the moon is basically a visual novel with puzzles, made in RPG maker. I'd recommend games like Ib, or The Witch's House if you're willing to deal with a bit of horror, and perhaps The Walking Dead, if you have yet to play that.
Actually, yeah, just forget the rest: Play The Walking Dead.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Well, if I can interest you with a Visual Novel, I have to recommend Analogue A Hate Story. The story is very well written, interesting and engaging, but besides talking and reading there's not much "gameplay" per se. You play a space salvager who's recovering the data logs from a downed spaceship with the help of the ship's AI, and it's mostly reading logs and talking with the AI. It's very streamlined and immersive, however. Available on Steam.
If you want more gameplay than that, I recommend Digital A Love Story by the same maker. It's free and not very long, but the story is (again) very good.

Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia![Edit: Never mind. I was going to recommend the Professor Layton series, but I didn't notice the part about not owning any consoles.]

Extra 1: Poochy Ain't StupidHmm...
I haven't played To The Moon, and I may well stray outside of what you're looking for in a story, but the following may be worth considering:
Free:
- Eternally Us (a little unsubtle, perhaps, but I found it rather moving as I recall.)
- The Marionette (A lovely, eerie, character-focussed horror game.)
- ~airwave~ - I Fought the Law, and the Law One
(An indie-music DJ attempting to fend off the meddling of an executive from the mainstream music industry.)
Not free, but not terribly expensive (I think):
- The Gabriel Knight series (old, and perhaps somewhat dated, but very well written, I feel. While the tugging of heartstrings isn't the primary focus of the stories in this series, I do recall some rather affecting moments. The games should be available from GOG.)

My Games and Asset PacksI remember that when I played Final Fantasy X what I liked about it was the some of its weirdness and the fact that it had quite an original setting. Some of the creatures looked like they were pretty much made up by China Mieville . I remember my first fight in which I was attacked by a huge wasp, a lizard that looked like it had no head and a metallic floating orb. So what I'm searching for is a jrpg with a similarly strange and weird feel to it, preferably even more so the final fantasy X. If it had some cyberpunk elements to it, that would be great, but anything that's weird, original and doesn't just stick to standard fantasy conventions all the way, would be awesome.
Persona 4 might be to your liking. As for weird enemies, you fight mooks such as disembodied tongues, walking tables and a king who looks like the Pringles mascot.
In a sense, it does address some cyberpunk themes, especially the influence of television on people's reality perception.

Despite taking place in the same universe, they're all separate stories. P3 is another popular one (P4 is based on its game system) with its own share of weird monsters, though I would say the technology and media themes are not as strong here. They are more present in P2, which is fairly old since it was released in the Playstation era, but the writing is fairly solid and it is here that the Big Bad of the Persona universe is introduced.
I'm not that familiar with the first Persona game, and I don't think many people are.
Cyberpunk JRPG with unique mechanics?
Our page: "Twenty Minutes into the Future, the world has become a complete wasteland unable to support human life. As a last resort, humanity built a giant tower-like clockwork machine called Basel.... The Battle System of this game uses a mix of both Eastern RPG system and Action RPG elements, allowing the characters to move in real-time while shooting enemies with their array of guns and explosives in amazing manoeuvrings, yet still maintaining a turn-based pace."

What are some good games for iPhone that I could try (especially freeware)? I lean toward puzzle and strategy.
I found Unmechanical and really enjoyed it, and I would play The Room but apparently my phone isn't good enough for it.
