Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

The story is still ongoing and he is to be confronted in the next patch, with his last remaining WEAPON pilot planning to betray him when that time comes.

Between the relentless child grooming, the threats of genocide of Au Ra, civilian or not should his subordinates disobey, I feel pretty strong about this, but this final call is still up to everyone else.

Even with a still ongoing story, I still feel he counts. What I understood about this trope and our definitions is that a candidate has to meet up to a standard within the works themselves. "Are they evil? Are they so evil that in-universe, their actions are treated as abhorrent?" As well as "Do they exceed a standard of villainy and heinousness already present within the story itself? [I.E. a murderous thug would not be considered a CM in one on those grounds alone in a crime drama where other criminals also kill people, but would in a more child-friendly work where killing is extremely uncommon at best.]

[tup] to Valens Van Varro.

So, it's been two weeks since the release of the Taking AIM update for Marvel's Avengers, but I don't think there's anything worth talking about. The two new antagonists are Dr. Lyle Getz, an AIM scientist, and the Kree, who are a force invading Earth in the future. Getz is a pretty generic scientist who doesn't do anything noteworthy, so he can't count. As for the Kree, we still don't know anything about them or why they're attacking Earth, so they can't count either.

Monica, the current keeper, plays a role in the story, where she's building a time bridge to her future self, creating Tachyon storms that are wreaking havoc across the world. Under normal circumstances, this would call for an update to her entry, but it's revealed that her actions in this story aren't done out of malice. Since the Kree are invading Earth in the future, Monica is contacting her future self because she wants to prevent the invasion, in which she is working with Nick Fury and Clint Barton to accomplish this.

Now, this doesn't disqualify her because her plan is done out of self-preservation and pragmatism rather than out of the goodness of her heart, but I'm not too sure if we should take note of this in her entry. In fact, I don't think Monica is even aware of the Tachyon storms, as she never addresses them in the story. Granted, the storms are hard to miss, but we don't really know her thoughts on them regardless. If most people disagree and want to add this to her entry, then I'd be fine with that. Still, there's no one worth effort posting from this recent update.

Here are my write-ups:

  • The Battleship Island:
    • Yoon Hak-chul is a former Korean resistance fighter who defected to Imperial Japan and became an informant for them on Hashima Island. Gaining the trust of the other Korean laborers, he informs the Japanese guards of any escape plans and manipulates the deaths of numerous escapees, while embezzling in their compensation pay and the withheld wages of other laborers. When his treachery is exposed by Park Mook-young, Yoon tries to kill him and later shoots a witness to the scene, Ko Choong-ho. Learning of an imminent Japanese defeat in World War 2, he works with Yamada to kill every Korean laborer in exchange for safe passage out of Hashima Island, trying to manipulate every Korean, including the women and children, to enter into the coal mines so that they could be buried alive.
    • Shimazaki Daisuke is the manager of Hashima Island, responsible for enslaving the men into working under harsh conditions in the coal mines, where they are often starved and subjected to work accidents that result in their deaths. As for the women, Daisuke converts them into comfort women and sell them into sexual slavery, in which they are beaten and raped by their new husbands. When Daisuke learns of a gas explosion in Mine No. 2, he orders it to be sealed off to prevent further damage to the rest of the complex, even though there are many Korean laborers still stuck in the mine.
    • Yamada is the right-hand man of Shimazaki Daisuke, who enjoys tormenting the Korean laborers under his control, such as drowning two escapees in order to get a higher payment. Realizing that Japan will likely surrender to the United States, Yamada concocts a plan to wipe out all evidence of the war crimes committed on Hashima Island, including the massacre of every Korean laborer, in which he murders Daisuke to usurp his position. Heavily implied to have ordered the murder of a Japanese schoolgirl, he exploits the situation to justify his crackdown on the laborers and has Choi Chil-sung, accused of being the murderer, tortured as punishment. When the Koreans attempt to escape the island, he leads his forces to attack them, ordering his men to kill every Korean, even the ones who are aiding the Japanese.

Alright with pretty much everyone having switched to a [tup] for Tully I shall get to his write-up now:

  • Warrior (2019): "Enter The Dragon": Tully is a disgruntled Irishman who blames the Chinese for the lost of his job. Tully would rally his fellow Irishmen to attack the police officers holding the Chinaman Jacob, where Tully hangs Jacob before having his angry mob rampage throughout Chinatown killing every single Chinese man, woman, and child that they come across; Tully would then try to kill Richard Lee when he sees him saving a Chinese woman.

Okay, here is someone i want to propose, after playing through these games

What is the Work?

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II is the sequel to The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth and second part of The Battle for Middle-earth trilogy of RTS games. Retelling the events of the movie, in case of the first game, or telling a side story of the War in the North, as in case of this sequel, The Battle for Middle-earth let us control various characters from the movie trilogy, based on Tolkien's works, and, in case of the first two games, allows us to choose a campaign aka which side we will control, with the Good Campaign being a faithful retelling of the plot of the movies, and the Evil Campaign having us "reconstruct it" by letting the Forces of Sauron slaughter the heroes and take over Middle Earth.

My candidate ofcourse comes from the Evil Campaign of the second game, one of the chief commanders of Sauron's army - Mouth of Sauron

Who is the Mouth of Sauron

One of the chief servants of Sauron, who served his master for so long, he forgotten his name, Mouth of Sauron serves as his messenger and herald, who also stands out because, unlike Nazgul and the Witch King, he was never shown to be corrupted by Sauron or his One Ring, but willingly serves the Dark Lord fanatically, leading his forces in their conquest of the Middle Earth. Introduced at the start of the first mission in the Evil Campaign, alongside 3 Nazguls, Mouth of Sauron gathers an army of Goblins, recruits Mountain Giants and leads them in slaughtering the Elves and destroying their city of Lorien.

After Gorkil the Goblin King conquered Grey Havens and the Dwarven city of Fornost, slaughtering everyone, who gets in his way and destroyed the Shire, out of hatred of Hobbits, Mouth of Sauron continued his massacre of the Elves by leading his forces upon Mirkwood, blocking the traveling road between the elven kingdom and the merchants, murdering several Ents (sentient trees) and then destroying the Elven Kingdom itself, leaving only few survivors, as Mouth of Sauron conquered the rest of the Mirkwood.

Later on, moving to Withered Heath, Mouth of Sauron decided to recruit Dragons to his cause, seeking Drogoth the Dragon Lord to make a deal with him. Releasing many Fire Drakes (young dragons) from their capture at the hands of the dwarves, thus unleashing them to murder and destroy all dwarves they see, while Mouth of Sauron himself leads the forces of Mordor in killing and destroying all Dwarves and Dwarven outposts they see. Eventually killing all the dwarves in the region, Mouth of Sauron approached Drogoth and promised him the riches of the dwarves in exchange of his service, leading to the Dragon Lord joining Sauron's army.

Afterwards, after Sauron's army initiated their attack on the city of Dale, Mouth of Sauron arrived almost immediatly to expand (after proclaiming that such a small force, that was attacking the city was unworthy to be called the forces of Mordor) and lead the army in annihilating the city and the futher attack upon the Erebor, known as Dwarven Kingdom aka the Lonely Mountain.

Breaking into Erebor, Mouth of Sauron lays waste to the Dwarven Kingdom, killing all the dwarves there, including King Dain, forcing the rest of the Free Men and remaining survivors to retreat to Rivendell.

There, as he hears of Frodo's death and Gorkil the Goblin King began the assault upon Rivendell and destroyes their gate, Mouth of Sauron arrives with the Nazguls, to join in on slaughtering of the remaining Forces of Good. As they carve their path to the city, Witch King, the rest of the Forces of Sauron and Sauron himself arrived, with Sauron wearing the One Ring, as they slaughter the Fellowship of remaining heroes (Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas and ec.), who arrived with the army of the dead to drive back the Forces of Evil. Afterwhich, Mouth of Sauron assists Sauron in destroying Rivendell and killing off the remaining resistance, helping to spread the darkness and tyranicall rule of Sauron upon the rest of Middle Earth.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

None that appears, even if we take into account books and movies, as unlike the Nazgul and Witch King, it seems that Mouth of Sauron was serving Sauron out of his own free will (with no indication that he was corrupted), worshipping him, which was not portrayed to be out of geniune loyalty, but out of fear and respect of his power, as he considered him akin to a god.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Evil Campaigns of these games are completely non-canon, as they simply introduce alternative storylines, where evil wins, nevertheless, within this campaign, Mouth of Sauron is shown to be quite high heinous wise, alongside Gorkil the Goblin King, and even then, Mouth of Sauron was shown to command and lead a bit more assaults than him, likewise personally leading Forces of Sauron to wipe out and lay waste upon the lands of Middle Earth, slaughtering Dwarves and Elves in thousands and being responsible for the destruction of Elven and Dwarven Kingdoms, murdering their rulers and actively spreading his Dark Lord's influence upon the world, likewise making Sauron's army more destructive by convincing Dragons to join their cause.

Final Verdict?

What do you think?

I return with yet another Holmes ep. This time from a book.

Whats the work?

Sherlock Holmes the Golden Years by Kim H. Krisco is a group of interconnected short stories which follows Holmes in his "retirement years" where he's still taking cases and faces off against some quite terrible foes. Including this dude

Who is Ciarán Malastier?

A creepy euganisct who believes that humanity needs to be free of its uh "undesirables". Malastier runs a baby farming operation. In it pregnant woman who wish to give up their children are sent, only Malastier has any babies born killed if they have any "imperfections" in his mind. Holms begins to investigate when one woman asks him to check out that her young daughter who was handed over to his agency and had dwarfism is found drowned in the Thames.

Anyway Holmes begins to investigate Malastier but finds himself stonewalled by the authorities who are covering for him for some reason with even his brother not being able to say way. So he asks his old frenemy Irene Adler with help by infiltrating Malister's club The Golden Dawn and scout out what's going on. They discover why Malastier is getting free range, he's a weapons dealer in charge of making Poison gas for the government. He was founded due to intelligence that Germany is planning the same thing as a countermeasure. You see that's not what Malastier wants to use it on...

Anyway Adler infilitrates and is tricked by Malastier whose onto her to going into a slum called undertown where large communities of the poor are living. Their Malastier unleashes his gas, he always intended to use it to wipe out the cities "undesirables" unbeknownst to the government. This kills hundreds of men, woman and children. Holmes and Watson try to save Adler but alas to no avail and she perishes.

Malaister goes on the run to America to escape justice and try and find a cure for his terminal throat cancer. Holmes and Watson follow and capture him and drag his ass back to London where he's tried and executed.

Redeeeming quailties? Hahahno. Nah hes a crazy and creepy euganisct with a Master Race fetish and child killer. Nothing more, nothing less.

Heinous standard?

Worst in novel. Human trafficker, serial baby killer, terrorist who killed hundreds of people using poison gas. Nasty, nasty dude. Even Holmes considers the worst guy hes faced in his career.
