Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I'm gonna ask for more firsthand opinions here. He sounds nasty but Hitman seems chalk full of "very nasty" and I'm not seeing much more here beyond what NTG already nicely summarized for us with their own EP.

No to Zeydan, there are just way too may nasty customers in the series for me to feel comfortable with him going up, especially with the Patient Zero candidates who do more with less.

So remember The Psycho Pirate?

Well, I actually remember an issue of the Tie-in comic that has him as a villain. One issue has him drive a city into anarchy by using his mask to drive everyone to attack each other, as well as install fear into those unaffected. Billy Bastion was nearly mauled by his tiger buddy before he said the magic word (It was a Shazam crossover).

Does that sound like something worth mentioning? It isn't too stand out compared to his crime in the show, but hey, more crimes doesn't hurt. And no, he shows no mitigating factors there.

[down][down] So, how does adding crimes work? Do I just fetch the Original EP and add that little tidbit? Or does someone else do it?

Got two candidates from the same show coming up. One is coming up next week as that will be the two week mark after her death, but for now, here's the first one I had in mind.

What's the work?

Akudama Drive is a Nameless Narrative cyberpunk anime where the world split apart after a war between the Kanto and Kansai regions of Japan. After the war, Kansai becomes a vassal state to Kanto, and crime skyrocketed, major criminals being labeled as "Akudama" that are hunted down by the government's execution force.

Two aritifical humans who were lab experiments attempt to escape to the moon, and to fulfill that task, the older one called Brother hires the five most dangerous Akudama in Japan, two others accidentally getting roped into the situation (one is a two-bit thug named Hoodlum, and the other is a regular girl, who lied about being an Akudama named Swindler to avoid being killed by several of the hired ones). And the last Akudama that the audience meets is quite the piece of work.

Who is he? What does he do?

Cutthroat is a Serial Killer that's obsessed with the color red who, prior to the story, beheaded 1000 victims. He's captured and sentenced to execution, but gets rescued by the others. He then immediately places explosive collars on his saviors, himself, and a random police officer, said collar killing the officer when he tries to remove it in a panic. (It was under brother's orders to place it on the other Akudama, but he had the officer blow up for no reason other than to see blood).

Initially, while Cutthroat is definitely a creepy nuisance, nearly causing the entire group to die in a shuttle crash because he kept pressing red buttons and developing an obsession with Swindler due to her red eyes and a red halo that only he can see, he's a mostly helpful member of the team, proving to be pretty cunning despite his insanity, such as throwing his knives towards other knives to cause them to shoot out from a barricade of security walls to deactivate them, and being Swindler's personal bodyguard. However, during a fight with a pair of executioners, he uses Brother as a shield to protect Swdinler (the executioners are trying to retrieve the aritifical humans, Brother and Sister) and stabs through him to attack the executioner. While Brother survives thanks to a Healing Factor, Cutthroat didn't know that, and was perfectly willing to murder his child employer to get the upperhand in a fight (nor was there any reason to stab through Brother to begin with, since simply using him as a shield stopped the attack)

After various events ranging from Hacker leaving, Brawler's death, and Doctor betraying the group to the Execution Division, Cutthroat gets separated from everyone when a task force comes to attack them. After everyone gets paid for their job, Cutthroat starts making his way to Kansai when he finds out Swindler returned there, killing every random bystander he comes across on the walk. Soon, he makes it to the Execution Divison Headquarters knowing that Swindler, Courier, and Sister will be there in their attempt to rescue the captured brother due to him seeing Swindlers "halo" which grew larger and larger. Cutthroat slaughters hundreds executors and stacks them in a room to form a literal pile of corpses to greet her.

He then reveals that ever since meeting her, he wanted to kill Swindler and immediately attacks the three. He subdues Courier and Sister and chases down Swindler, who locks herself in a closet. After a failed attempt to burst open, Cutthroat lies that he sees the error in his ways, saying that he understands that nobody wants to die. Swindler pretends to fall for his lies, lets him in, and uses an executioner sword in the closet to slash off most of Cutthroat's limbs. However, Cutthroat grabs her by the throat and starts slowly choking her, talking about how much fun he's having and starts getting ecstatic as the red halo around her grows and grows as she's dying. (Yeah...still not explained what the halo is about). However, Swindler activates the executioner's sword again as Cutthroat is choking her, stabbing through his heart, killing him.

Heinous by the standards of the story?

The dude has the single biggest kill count of all Akudama, and is only topped by government groups for biggest kill count period. Not just with the over a thousand killed prior to the story, but also with the literal hundreds of bodies we see him stack in a pile in Episode 9.

Any mitigating factors?

His protection of Swindler was only so that she could live before he killed her himself, so that's not mitigating whatsoever. The only real red flag here is if he's too insane to count. And yeah, the dude is INCREDIBLY messed up in the head. But he still understands that killing is a wrong thing to do as seen with his attempt to manipulate Swindler. He just places his love of killing and the color red over it. He also displays moments of intellect as previously mentioned with the security door thing.

Final Thoughts?

Right, here's the original:

  • "Inside the Outsiders!": Psycho Pirate, real name Roger Hayden, is a sadistic supervillain who feeds on the emotions of his victims until he destroys their minds, standing out even among world conquerors and city destroyers as a despicable predator. Kidnapping three young, rookie superheroes, the Outsiders, as his latest victims, Psycho Pirate invades their minds and mentally tortures them with their worst fears and bad experiences. Forcing Katana to relive her master's death over and over, subjecting Black Lightning to constant hate and prejudice from everyone around him, and convincing Metamorpho that his supposed friends see him as a freak, Psycho Pirate severely harms the teenagers' psyches and even gets them to nearly snuff one another out. When Batman arrives, Psycho Pirate subjects him to a horrid illusion of the Outsiders dying, hoping to force the hero to give in to his murderous hatred so Psycho Pirate can devour his emotions and mind for good.

[tup] to Cutthroat.

Okay here are my Wire in the Blood write ups, how do they look:

  • Wire in the Blood: Doctor Tony Hill, Carol Jordon, Alex Fielding and the other officers of the Bradfield police have faced variety of Serial Killers, these are the very worst:
    • "Shadows Rising": The killer, beloved celebrity Jack Vance, despite seeming attentive, charming and compassionate is in reality a controlling, vicious predator. Regularly beating and raping Jilly Davis during their marriage, following her escaping him the killer took to preying on impressionable teenagers who resembled Jilly. Charming the girls into agreeing to meeting up, he would imprison them within a tiny room and then spend a week beating and raping them, climaxing in him smashing their right cheekbone and slitting their throat. Over the span of seven years, he succeeded in killing eight girls in this manner, each time living out the fantasy of breaking and killing Jilly. Growing concerned at Beth Morris endangering his enablement to carry on murdering the killer brutally stabbed Beth to death afterwards posing her body for Amanda Vance to find, aiming to traumatise her into silence. Framing the loyal assistant Jason for the murder, the killer returns his attention to carrying on his brutal torment with his latest victim.
    • "Nothing But The Night": Michael James Dawson despite his youth is a vicious, sadistic brute and animalistic maniac. A day after his release for violent offences, Dawson murdered the vulnerable Paul Macmillan's former abuser to indebt him, recreating a painful execution from a film. Setting them up with his girlfriend Leah, whom Dawson regularly beat and abused at the slightest provocation or just for fun, he forced Paul to become his partner having developed a taste for murder. Upon finding a sufficient brutal death on TV Dawson would track down a victim to re-enact what he watched going on a killing spree with his signature being torture. He proceeded to crush a woman to death beneath an ironing board by repeatedly jumping on it; repeatedly stabbed then strangled a pensioner; brutally dismembered a teenager; and strangled then slowly gutted a poor man. Upon Paul deciding he wanted to stop, Dawson beat him to death on the spot. Forcing Leah to become his new partner, Dawson abducted a young woman planning to force Leah to torture her to death then kill Leah afterwards.
    • "Synchrony": The Bradfield Sniper is an unnamed compulsive gambler who embarks on a killing spree both to gain a sense of control over life and for the sheer thrill. Picking his targets by cutting a pack of cards, if the result was positive he would then kill one random person where the card represented, murdering roughly one person a day over a week, each time leaving the playing card at the scene. Starting with an office worker one morning, the sniper deliberately non-fatally shot his next victim so he could watch his futilely attempts to crawl away before he finished him off. Murdering a compassionate teacher in front of his pupils, the sniper taunted the police over their inability to stop him proceeding to slaughter a shop worker, and then a kindly priest on the steps of his church. Realising his game couldn't carry on indefinitely, deciding to go out in "a blaze of glory", the sniper began simply massacring everyone he encountered until he was stopped, slaughtering three more people at the office where he started.
    • "Hole In The Heart": The cult leader, Professor Martin Sutton, despite appearing to be friendly, charismatic figure is truthfully a smug, perverted Christian fanatic with a misanthropic view of the world. Using religion to fulfil his twisted fantasies, he recruited six vulnerable individuals forming a Apocalypse Cult then sends his brainwashed followers to murder those he deems corrupt in methods that mimic the executions of Christian Saints, having them kill themselves upon completing the assignment. Under his orders a property developer is burned alive, a kind-hearted bishop dies from multiple stab wounds and a local judge is decapitated. Hoping to throw the police off the scent the leader ordered a follower to chain a millstone around their neck and jump into the sea, then another follower to blow themselves up in an attempt to kill ACC Eden. Revealing his judgement that the whole world is corrupt, the leader plans for the final follower, vulnerable biochemist Kurt Merrick, to release a modified strain of bubonic plague starting an epidemic which he believed would kick-start the Rapture.
    • Season Six: "Michael" stands as the shows only recurring antagonist, a genius psychopath and self-proclaimed "Fallen Angel" who is driven by an obsession with control and attention. Murdering a personal counsellor he stole his identity to find new victims. Michael's MO is to abduct people he considered "failures", binding them so they are under his complete control. Keeping his victims imprisoned for weeks or longer, Michael would force feed them rich fatty foods then dismember their limbs whilst they were conscious, then cook and eat their body parts in front of them; finally hanging his victims if they resisted or he grew bored with them. Murdering his fifth victim for refusing to comply he'd decided to make her boyfriend his next victim, leaving him to slowly choke when he resisted. Imprisoned Michael developed a fascination for Tony Hill, faking a religious conversion to escape he murdered the Chaplin by stuffing Bible pages down his throat. Now free Michael took to stalking Tony and sending him taunts, pausing briefly to murder Fiona Grantham by cutting off her head. Managing to kidnap Tony, Michael tried on final time to kill him.
    • "From The Defeated": John Taylor is a simple-minded thuggish survivalist and illegal fight club champion, who's discovery he is sterile challenges his survival of the fittest based sense of superiority. Following attempting to rape of a co-worker, Taylor vowed to correct this by gaining a child via a proxy. Obsessing over young mother Ellie Jacobs whom he decides is his "Eve", Taylor's eugenics mind-set devised a twisted method of testing for a suitably superior "Adam". Kidnapping fit, attractive men in their early twenties Taylor imprisoned them in a makeshift dungeon, giving them just enough scavenged food to survive. Then at gunpoint he forces two victims to brutally fight to the death, the winner surviving until the next fight. Finding one victim is a different ethnicity thus an unsuitable proxy candidate Taylor simply murders him. Following putting four people through his traumatising ordeals, Taylor kidnaps Ellie and her baby forcing the survivor Mark Barron to attempt to impregnate her or else he'll kill the baby, stopping Mark from making the experience easier for Ellie as she was for him later, whilst planning to kill Mark and the baby once he no longer needed them.
