During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

It's pretty impressive that for basically a Starter Villain (albeit a particularly heinous one), this is Angelo's 3rd CM incarnation (original and the film).
Angelo
What Is the Work?
Headhunter: Redemption is the 2004 sequel to Headhunter.
This game doesn’t even begin to describe the concept of a Darker and Edgier sequel. Mankind went to ruins after the events of the last game; an earthquake splits the world into two halves: the rich society Above, and the corrupt underground prison Below; Jack’s son Chris goes missing, leading to Angela divorcing and hating him throughout half the game; and the corporations of Above are practically controlled by an AI known as Liberty, who use a braindead man to round up people to assist it in its plot to get revenge on humankind for taking advantage of technology. So yeah, game’s a bunch of sunshine and rainbows.
The game primarily stars Leeza X, a snarky rebellious hacker who joins up with the now older Jack Wade to stop The Man Who Walks With Machines (aka MW3M), a mysterious person from Below who's smuggling weapons and a bunch of other crimes. It’s up to Jack and Leeza to stop MW3M and Liberty from destroying humankind.
But the Man and Liberty have a few henchmen up their sleeves, with one in particular standing out from the rest.
Who Is He?
Sebastian E. Grossdent, aka “Candy Floss”, only appearing in Mission 11, is an incredibly sadistic torturer and scientist put in charge of Research & Execution.
What has he done?
A former dentist of the rich citizens of Fortune Hills, Floss was charged with mutilation after torturing his customers, leading him to be sent to Below. Floss was put in charge of the Research & Execution laboratories by Liberty, performing sadistic, inhumane experiments on people, torturing them enough to make them into the bio-mechs, zombie cyborgs that patrol the halls working for Floss. Previously commissioned by the Stern Corp. to have these bio-mechs serve as security guards, Floss plans to use Liberty's uprising to give his bio-mechs free will to do whatever they want on Above. The bio-mechs will be piloted by the minds behind Liberty, acting as their slaves as they serve them in order to shape the world to their will.
Getting his hands on revolutionary leader Che, Floss has her mutilated without using anesthetic, leaving her barely alive and missing an arm. By the time Jack confronts her, he hands her his gun to commit suicide. Leeza is also taken by Floss to be used to awaken Liberty’s true power.
When encountered by Jack, Floss thanks the people of Above for sending him to Below, as it allowed him to indulge in his experiments. Though he does miss the cries, tears, and screams of the children he tortured in his dentist days. Floss also reveals to Jack that he had Jack’s missing son Chris brought to him, excited that he was the first child in Below to be bio-mechanized. As he lays dying, Floss revels in Jack’s suffering, prideful that he’s lost everything and everyone close to him, from Chris, to Angela.
Redeeming Qualities?
While he treats his bio-mechs like his children, wanting to send them to Above to reach their true potential, he mainly views them as both achievements of his scientific intellect, and just a way to get off on the torture of humans, ecstatic that he turned Jack’s son into a puppet for Liberty due to children being hard to come by in Below.
Plus, he doesn’t care when Jack kills them, and even has his own zoo full of bio-mechanized animals.
Heinousness?
So with this darker and edgier installment comes darker and edgier villains.
Liberty, a computer who serves as a hive mind comprised of several criminals sent to Below, doesn't count, as it’s genuinely pissed that humanity took advantage of them.
There’s also Psycho Star, a crazed game show host who tries to have Above nuked with the help of Liberty… except the nukes were a fake, which Psycho was aware of, meaning he knew the humans of Above were going to survive. Besides that, Psycho doesn’t match the heinousness of Floss or Liberty.
But what about MW3M? Turns out, he’s Leeza’s father, who tried to kill her when she was a child because she was the key to awaken Liberty’s true potential. He ends up becoming a braindead puppet for Liberty, and genuinely cares for his daughter once she’s all grown up.
Floss on the other hand? Sadist torture of children, twisted experimentation, mutilation, glee in his killings, and willing to help out a destructive AI for the sake of expanding his own ego. He has lesser resources compared to Sharpe and Zweiberg, but he still fills out a very nasty niche.
Conclusion
I think he’s a keep.
It's Spooky Month!
Grossdent
@43 Exactly. In fact, I would be shocked if there was any incarnation of Angelo that wasn't a CM. He's the villain with the least basis for a possible redeeming quality in the entire Jo Jo franchise.
Check out my current fanfiction project.Dude he's not obscure, he's known as one of the nastiest non-Big Bad villains in a work with a very high heinous standard.
Berserk Button: misusing Berserk Button
Headhunter trio, especially Grossdentist. Also, I forgot but
to Zuwa.
Sebastian.
- Something Scary:
- Spring-Heeled Jack
: The titular Spring-Heeled Jack is a demon that terrorizes Victorian England, preying on children during night hours. Jack prides itself in the terror he instills in his victims, using their fear to strengthen himself. Capturing the brother of a girl he earlier kidnapped, Jack attempts to eat one of them and force the other to watch. Blown apart by his would-be victims, Jack vows to return to exact vengeance on them and their descendants for trying to stop him.
- Spring-Heeled Jack
Yes to Sharpe, Angelo, and Candy Floss.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSo, I made an entry for Joylin from the Star Wars fanfic Die Anatomie der Macht. I am sorry for the long delay. This is the first time I write an entry, so I need a little feedback. Please, read my entry and tell me if it`s good. If you like it, I will put it tomorrow in the Sandbox:
Star Wars: Die Anatomie der Macht, by Bodiel: Joylin
, the tyrannical ruler of Romin, stands in stark contrast to the relatively sympathetic
Jenna Zan Arbor
. Initially presenting himself as a freedom fighter he starts abusing and starving his people and executing his political rivals immediately after he takes over. He also continues the practice of his predecessor, Teda, of giving shelter to dangerous criminals from all over the galaxy in exchange of money. Despising the poor people and wishing to wipe them all out
, Joylin has Trexin steal a couple of viruses from Jenna Zan Arbor in order to make a stronger virus from them which kills his victims by slowly decomposing their bodies
and he plans to unleash it on his subjects, attempting to kill billions in the process. Joylin later betrays Trexin and attempts to give him to the sadistic Dr. Tennbon
for her deranged experiments revealing that he has already condemned countless people to this fate and not caring that Trexin is 16 years old
. Moments before being deposed by the Republic army he starts launching rockets in another attempt to exterminate the poor people of Romin, destroying huge parts of the capital and killing many people. During the bombardment he mocks Jenna Zan Arbor over her inability to save the people and over the fact that there are many kids who have died, taking sadistic pleasure in her suffering and planning to kill her after he has finished exterminating his own people. A smug, vile and cruel tyrant, Joylin proves that he is much worse than his predecessor.
