Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

No. What makes Sko-ella hideous enough is not that she terrified the devil, but that she makes a husband to kill his own wife.

[tdown] to Sko-ella.

[up] Even considering her crimes, her body count is only one person and, while cruel, I don't think it's enough to make her qualify for this trope.

[tdown] Sko-Ella

Now for Headhunter candidate #2.

Who Is He?

Alan Sharpe, once the vice president of ACN, graduates to smug director of ACN after the death of Christopher Stern. But behind the scenes, Alan runs the Syndicate, a criminal enterprise that conducts murder, kidnapping, and organ harvesting.

What has he done?

Previously the one who championed for the rule of harvesting the organs of repeat criminals to ACN, Alan worked with Zweiberg to ensure director Christopher Stern’s death. Why? Because Alan thinks ANC should be running the country with its cruel methods. He also couldn’t stand Stern because of how old-fashioned ANC was becoming in its standard nonlethal arresting of criminals; when Stern threatened to pull funding from Biotech’s mind control chip program, Alan thought now was the right time to have him killed, despite being Stern’s cherished protégée.

So Alan uses Zweiberg’s mind control chip on Jack Wade, brainwashing him to assassinate Stern and ensure his position as ACN's new head. Posing as the mysterious Don Fulci, Alan has organs harvested from criminals to be either used by Zweiberg for his experiments or sold on the black market, and has Jack framed for killing an ANC agent. Alan, as Fulci, has bombs planted across LA after Angela and Jack siphoned money from the Syndicate’s bank account, planning to have the entire city nuked to oblivion. After Jack disarms the bombs, Zweiberg has the already framed Jack arrested and sent to the AquaDome prison to be killed for his organs. Alan instead praises Hank Redwood, Jack’s rival, as the true hero of the city, hoping to make him his successor.

Killing the benevolent Chief Hawke in front of Jack while relishing in his newfound love of murder, Alan reveals that he’s never believed in Stern’s teachings because he felt like a product of his morals. Before he can murder Jack, he’s killed by Angela via an ENP bullet, which fries his brain, and is taken by Zweiberg to have his organs harvested.

Redeeming Qualities?

Zero. He groomed Hank to act as his successor, but he doesn’t shed a tear after finding out he was killed by Jack. He says he cares for ACN, yet he’s willing to kill off its members and indulge in crime to expand its increase its control. Plus, ACN under his rule is notoriously corrupt, so he really only values it for what it could become under his reign.

Heinousness?

While his crimes are smaller scaled compared to Zweiberg, Alan still attempts to destroy LA with explosives (even if he knew Jack was going to stop them), and is involved in the trafficking of a fuckton of organs.

And while he was an Unwitting Pawn in Zweiberg’s game, Alan still had enough control over his actions, and his own separate goal of ACN control, that helps him stand out from his boss.

Conclusion

I think he’s a keep.

It's Spooky Month!

That was unnecessarily rude Dood. People propose candidates they think count, people disagree and downvote, they don't need to be treated like pariahs for having a different view on a character unless they were outright lying in the EP.

[tup] to Denise and Sharpe.

Alright, one more EP for now.

What is the work?

Remnant's Bizarre Adventure is a RWBY and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure crossover, written by The Inkasters, or more specifically gorilla_fingers. This fic focuses on Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar and resident of the mysterious Morioh Town colony, returning to the wider world of Remnant and learning within Beacon Academy with the intention of competing within the Vale Festival. He’s also joined by his two friends Koichi and Okuyasu, and they encounter the RWBY cast as they teach each other how things work in their respective worlds. However, not everything is innocent academy hijinks and occasional Grimm hunting. Dark forces from Morioh's past join with Cinder for her plans. And with the appearance of Stands, things are going to get a bit more... bizarre.

It's one of my favorite fanfics, actually. But we're not here to talk about that, we're here to talk about a particularly nasty villain.

Who is Anjuro Katagiri? What has he done?

Anjuro Katagiri, or Angelo, is the most deranged serial murderer in the history of Vale, and possibly Remnant as a whole. Having robbed and raped a woman at 12, he followed it up with a horrible crime spree that ended with the rape, murder, and dismemberment of three young boys. For his crimes, he was sentenced to execution. (Of note is that he did this without Aura.)

But unfortunately, Roman Torchwick broke him out of prison on Cinder's orders, and shot him with the Stand arrow. After testing his new Stand, Aqua Necklace, on two people, Angelo agreed to capture Team JOJO for Torchwick to be given to Whitesnake, and to eliminate Team RWBY for him. All the while, Torchwick, Emerald, Mercury, and Neo are completely horrified by him.

Torchwick has Angelo smuggled into Beacon, and Angelo kidnaps Koichi and takes him to a water treatment facility. Angelo gloats to Koichi that he plans to kill Teams RWBY, JNPR, and JOJO when they come after Koichi, not caring that Torchwick wants them alive. According to Angelo, "I was going to kill him sooner or later, if he wants to make it sooner, well..." He also informs Koichi that he plans to rape him, using his intestines as a condom.

Neo ends up rescuing Koichi, and the two of them fight Angelo, who tries to have Aqua Necklace tear them apart from the inside. During the fight, Echoes evolves into Act 2. After a hard fight, Koichi ends up battering him to a pulp and the teams hand him over to Ironwood, who executes him immediately after interrogating him.

Heinousness?

Angelo is a Jo Jo-style Villain of the Week, not a major Arc Villain like Cinder, so he doesn't really have to do as much to qualify. More than one Jo Jo Villain of the Week has reached CM status on their depraved backstory alone, including canon Angelo. But for the sake of completion, let's have a look at each of the other villains.

Cinder is The Heavy. She's the one who has unleashed the majority of the hostile Stand users, and the mastermind behind The Breach. She certainly will qualify in the future if the story ever gets continued, but her role is far from over and I want to give her a chance to add some more crimes to her rap sheet (assuming the fic gets continued). Whitesnake has largely been a background villain, but that's likely to change soon (again, assuming the fic ever gets continued). Even so, I don't think there is any version of Pucci who could qualify. Tamami Kobayashi is a greedy sleazeball, but basically he didn't do much more than try to capture Weiss and Blake using emotional manipulation. Toshikazu Hazamada is a bitter, toxic person with a penchant for forcing people to pop their own eyeballs, and he attempts to force Pyrrha to be his woman (his words, not mine). But as much of a Hate Sink as he is, Angelo eclipses him without a doubt. Enigma and Red Hot Chili Pepper are basically hired muscle. They try to kidnap the Beacon student population, and RHCP tries to assassinate Joseph Joestar, but again, it's not that much compared to Angelo. Oyecomova and Eleven Men are the ones who carry out The Breach for Cinder; Eleven Men is a bit too Affably Evil, but Oyecomova might merit watching.

Mitigating factors?

HELL to the NO. Angelo is just a deranged killer who kills because he loves it. The only thing that gives me pause is his rather minor role in the story, but for a minor character, he goes a long way to justify being called a CM.

Verdict?

I'm going with [tup].

  • The Conspiracy (season 5): Denise Daniels is the head of the Space and Aeronautics Research Agency and The Chessmaster behind Ad Astra. Obsessed with human enhancement, Denise had attempted to create an invincible race of artificial humans for years. She had instilled a superiority complex in her first experiment, Rozetta Pierre, only to quickly abandon her after she turns out to be a mostly normal human, in turn causing her to become a social outcast, with her attempts to impress her mother falling on deaf ears. When the meteor dropped a year prior, Denise manipulates Rozetta into building a dome and extracting the meteorite's Berzelium, hoping to brainwash Grimsborough with the chemical. Behind her back, Denise uses the Berzelium to create an invincible race of humans under her command, hoping to establish a new world order. When Ad Astra's plans are foiled, Denise has them taken out and sets her plans into motion by obtaining the meteorite, hoping to use its core to destroy Grimsborough with a nuclear earthquake. When confronted, Denise releases her neohumans to wreak havoc across the city, before taunting and killing Rozetta. Unfortunately for Denise, her neohuman assistant Otto Kessel, sees her as part of the inferior humanity and executes her. Apathetic, ruthless, manipulative and hell-bent on destroying humanity for her own gain, Denise is easily one of the most despicable villains in the game.

Here, I tried cutting down on the entry. It should be as long as Tesla's. Sorry for any inconvenience ^^;
