Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Ten for FS now? Crazy.

I think Shandor is gonna be the villain in Afterlife. Given the movie didn’t come out this summer though, that remains to be seen.

  • What If We Fixed Ghostbusters 2016?: Ivo Shandor is a businessman CEO leading the Cult of Samhain. Wanting to force the world into eternal darkness, Shandor brings about the creations of multiple monsters and ghosts from urban legends, putting numerous people in danger in the process. Impeding the Ghostbusters' efforts to stop him once he becomes a ghost himself, Shandor, using the Empire State Building, seeks to harness power to bring Samhain into the real world and in order to accomplish it, he possesses and plans to sacrifice hundreds of Trick 'r Treating kids. He also possesses and threatens the life of Erin Wells's son as a means of further preventing the Ghostbusters' opposition too.

Bull, feel free to make any changes you like.

Wasn’t sure on the number at first. Hundreds is definitely worse though.

Felt good to do a CM writeup again for what felt like forever since the last one.

Seeing how Jenna Zan Arbor is about to be cut from the Star Wars page, could somebody tell me why Durge, Darth Zannah and Darth Bane have been cut, please? I don`t see their entries on the Star Wars page and I can`t find their discussions here, either.

Durge I don't recall but to abridge the decision on Bane and Zannah: they fail the heinous standard.

I think we cut Bane since for the Lord of the Sith he wasn't as bad as odion, Darth Krayt, exar kun and co.

Well zannah doesn't do quite enough compared to other cm sith.

Zannah and Bane has both heinous issues and with Bane, his pragmatism cut into heinousness too much. Durge had a redeeming quality.

'Yes' to the Stranger/Demon, Dracula, and Shandor.

Gonna just abstain on the softcore porn baddie

'No' to Jenna, same with the End

I'm fine just changing Afton's entry to "multiple children" tbh, don't think a specific number is really required for him.

Ok, here's my big Halloween post...I know it's technically still a couple hours until the day, and I might have one last one for tomorrow, but until then, since there's no doubt gonna be plenty proposals tomorrow, lemme go ahead and knock this one out.

What's the work?

Forever Evil is a 1987 B horror movie that's...very, very bizarre, starting out as what seems to be a typical Slasher/’'Evil Dead''-style flick, that turns into a paranormal investigation, that then turns into some sort of freaky action story.

The film focuses on a man named Marc, who, after a terrifying cabin trip turned slaughterfest, teams up with fellow "sole survivor of a bloody massacre" Reggie, and together, they work with a detective named Leo to suss out the truth behind a series of strange, horrific murders plaguing not just their area, but a massive chunk of the country...

This movie was weird as hell, but boy was it a wild ride, and it's given us a particularly nasty baddie to discuss...

Who is is he?

Parker Nash is a seemingly-friendly-but-obviously-not real estate agent who is in truth a diabolical, immortal cult follower of the ancient malevolent god Yog-Kothag, serving his ancient master in plans to bring him to Earth, and certain doom with him.

What has he done?

Back in the 1800s after becoming a worshipper of Yog-Kothag, Nash broke into a museum housing a ceremonial knife connected to Yog-Kothag, killing a security guard to steal the blade. Nash then slaughtered a family of 6 with the knife, using their spilled blood as a sacrifice to Yog-Kothag in exchange for eternal life, while Nash turns the butchered father into his personal pet attack zombie, declaring himself to be "too important" a man to not have someone to do his dirty work for him.

Over the years, Nash would use his zombie, "Alfie," to perpetuate consistent mass murders of groups of people, be they families or just groups of people Nash lured in to isolated cabins under the guise of real estate, all in certain locations that formed the symbol of a pentagram across the country. One of such killings claimed the life of Reggie's 4 close friends.

At the start of the film, Nash sets up Marc and several of his friends at a cabin for slaughter. Marc's pregnant girlfriend ends up having her stomach ripped open and baby vanishing, while Marc's other friends die from getting their throats slit, impaled on trees, and ripped to shreds by a spector of Yog-Kothag himself.

As Marc and Reggie come together and team up with Detective Leo to investigate, Nash prepares for the final massacre: One which will happen at the exact center of the massive pentagram shape, finishing up the summoning and bringing Yog-Kothag upon the Earth to bring unspeakable pain and destruction to the human race. Nash proudly brags that if a mere family massacre granted him immortality from Yog-Kothag, then surely offering up all of humanity for his torment will grant Nash limitless power.

Luckily, though Nash has Leo mauled to death by a demonic dog, Marc and Reggie lure Alfie into a trap and, using their....wrist-mounted grappling hooks.......defeat the zombie, at the seeming cost of Marc's own life. Reggie, tracking down and confronting Nash at his office, is faced with Nash's (gasp) psychic powers that protect him from bullets and allow him to catch the deadly weapon Reggie flings at him.....a paperweight. -_-

Revealing with glee that he's turned Marc into his new zombie slave to replace Alfie, Nash informs Reggie he plans to turn her and his own secretary—who will be arriving to the office shortly—into the final sacrifices to summon Yog-Kothag, and orders Marc to kill Reggie for him with the ceremonial Yog-Kothag knife.

However, as Nash receives a message from Yog-Kothag telling him he's in danger, Nash just brushes it off, stating that Reggie is helpless and questioning what possible danger he could be in. Zombie!Marc, in his last moment of cognizance, proclaims "The danger's right here, asshole!" and stabs Nash in the heart with the knife, its potent magic (I guess) overriding Nash's immortality and killing the man, ending his plans to return Yog-Kothag to Earth.

.....of course, Yog-Kothag doesn't plan to let Nash off that easy, and as Nash dies, his mind is pulled into a black vortex, Yog-Kothag proclaiming "Worm! You have failed me!" as Nash screams in pain and terror....the film ends with simple text on a black screen.

Freudian Excuse or other redeeming features?

Nah, Nash is about as straightforward as they come, classic Lovecraftian cultist seeking his own power by worshipping an evil god. He's heavily Faux Affably Evil, but nothing "polite" he says is given any sort of weight as being genuine.

Heinousness?

Nash kills dozens over the years, committing over half a dozen brutal mass murders that leave a hellton of bodies in his wake. He also turns the father of his first victim family into a zombie slave, does the same to Marc, has Leo mauled to death for investigating him, and plans to bring about the total end of the human race by Yog-Kothag's end for his own selfish purposes.

Final Verdict?

Easy Keeper
