During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Yes to that Rasputin. More pathetic maybe, but geeze, higher body count.
I think this makes 4 for the Mad Monk (we already have Ivanovic & Von Ausch.
to. the two Rasputins
So it appears that 7 people have voted
for Leo since he was first posted
while a few others have abstained. Since the minimum is 5 I think that's enough for Leo to get approved unless we receive a lot of sudden
or people change there votes, I think all we need left is to give Leo a write-up
now it’s 8 and counting

What's the work?
Let There Be Light!
is a fairly unoriginal Naruto and Green Lantern crossover fanfic written by Time-Warlock and published in April 7, 2009. Here's the summary :
"During the chaos of the Blackest Night, a Green Lantern Power Ring escapes the DC universe. Who has the willpower to become a new Green Lantern? And was it the only one to escape? Across the ninja world, there will be light... and the dead will rise..."
... Which leads to Naruto and Lee becoming Green Lanterns, Sasuke becoming a Red Lantern, Sakura and Hinata ending up as Star Sapphires, Sai joining the Indigo Tribe, Itachi, Deidara and Kisame becoming Sinestro Corps, Gaara ending up as a Blue Lantern...
...And Orochimaru becoming an Orange Lantern.
Who's Orochimaru? What has he done?
Orochimaru is introduced having just used test subjects and prisoners as target practice for Red Lantern Sasuke (read : they're six feet under now).
Two days ago, Sasuke was attacked by Orange Lantern Gelin, who wanted to make him his (read : killing him and use him as a Orange Lantern construct). Orochimaru, not wanting to lose the one he planned to use as a body, rescued him and with Kabuto fought Gelin. Gelin is ultimately defeated by Sasuke who just got his Red Lantern ring... Gelin then tries to uses one of Orochimaru's former bodies.
A wrong idea, as through that body Orochimaru immediately hijacks Gelin and his avarice (though good old Orochimaru already had plenty of greed to begin with).
So... Here's his decision :
"Sasuke-kun. You are just the beginning. Konoha, Akatsuki, Suna, Kabuto, my original, the Tailed Beasts, the other rings, this whole wretched world... Everything that is, IT WILL ALL BE MINE!"
Orochimaru then proceeds to attack Nagato and Konan when they decide to capture the Yonbi, with the two meeting an Uncertain Doom.
Then he attacks Suna with his Orange Lantern Corps, with the intent of killing everyone there and add them as his Orange Lantern Corps. Then he plans to do the same thing to the entire world, his original self included. By everyone, he means everyone, notably targeting a ninja named Aishi... As well as the baby she's currently with. Naruto, Hinata and Gaara defend the village and end up fighting Orochimaru. Anytime the latter gains the advantage, he makes sure that Gaara, Hinata and Naruto will die slowly while he taunts them, notably promising to Gaara that once he killed him and added him to his corps, he'd use him to kill the rest of Suna, just to Kick the Dog further and promising to Naruto and Hinata that even if they come back as Orange Lantern constructs, he'd kill them over and over again. Forever.
Cue Gaara pulling a Heroic Second Wind and coming back as a Blue Lantern, easily defeating and killing Orange Lantern Orochimaru.
Any mitigating factors?
He keeps all of his canon crimes prior to Shippuden, remains the sadist we all know and love, attacked Suna with the intent to kill anyone in the vicinity to make them his, and planned to do the same thing to the whole planet. Gelin did kill all of Orochimaru's prisoners to make them his, but Orochimaru manages to be worse throughout his sadism, the fact that he kept his pre-Shippuden canon crimes and the fact that he pulled a Eviler than Thou on Gelin. As for the other competitors, Itachi attacks a city to test his newfound abilities as a Sinestro Corps... But it's stated that he held back and killed no one. Hinata, upon becoming a Star Sapphire, petrified Kiba and Shino inside crystal, but has redeeming qualities and didn't do it of her own will. Sinestro and Akatsuki haven't done anything particularly notable in the fanfic as well, the fanfic dying before it could happen. So... Yeah, Orochimaru's the worst.
No redeeming quality or Freudian Excuse in the slightest.
Now, the Orange Lantern ring could have been a moral agency issue... But Orochimaru was already bad to begin with and his canon crimes prior to Shippuden were already CM material. The Orange ring only exacerbated what was already there.
Verdict ?
Up to you.

J’m’arrête pas tant qu’j’vois pas des lignes sur les moniteurs (Not stoppin 'til I see Flatlines)@43 Like I said, even if at the moment, Leo felt as if he truly cared about Michael, the fact that he felt no remorse for all the damage he did to him, and the two aren’t even seen hanging out in present day makes this lean closer to a case of a redeeming quality being voided later on. And other people have also argued that it was mostly just a case of manipulation and grooming.
This is just clarification though since you apparently haven’t seen the show, and feel free to disagree.
Sure to Orochimaru and Looper we’ve had fairly extensive conversations about sociopathy and how it’s portrayed in the media and which cases it debilitates agency in (see Todd thinking he’s friends with Jesse). If you think he counts, cool, go ahead and do the writeup. If this gets revisited because proper attention wasn’t paid and these counterpoints were just refuted to get a character up, that’s going to be a problem later on down the line.
Alright since Leo has around 9 upvotes and no downvotes, here’s the write-up. And also, the intro might seem slightly unnecessary, but I just thought I’d add that in this case because it says a lot that Leo makes a group of child killers look like saints in comparison...
- Broadchurch: In a show where almost every villains are given some kind of humanizing quality to balance out their actions, Leo Humphries stands out as an exception. Two years prior to the events of the third season, he knocked out, tied up, and raped a young woman called Laura Benson while filming the rape. Feeing empowered by the rape, he developed an addiction to it and did the same to two other women over the years. Upon meeting a troubled young man called Michael Lucas, Leo began corrupting him with pornography, and he eventually forced him to rape Trish Winterman at a party. During the ensuing investigation, he tried to frame Trish's boss Ed Burnett for the rapes. Arrogant, remorseless, and taking absolute pride in his actions, Leo is easily the most despicable character the entire show has to offer.
Leo, Rasputin 2x, and Snake Boi Orichimaru
I actually am curious about crossover fanfics and the heinous standard, how do we judge that? I'm reading an Akame ga Kill and Fire Emblem: Three Houses fanfic where essentially Akame ga Kill characters are place inside the story of Three Houses with Akame as the main character. There's a character in Akame ga Kill who while doesn't standout in his home series, has similar crimes in this fanfic that stands out in the setting of Three Houses, so how is that decided?
