During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Yes to Abaddon and Skynet. Any thoughts on which Skynet quote to use?
That's a thing?

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffAny thoughts on which Skynet quote to use? The movie or comic one?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadGood point. But I feel the film one is more iconic and Skynet did originate in the films.

True. But then that brings the question as to why we have a quote from the second movie on Complete Monster? It is not like we don't have quotes that are about characters rather than from characters though. Live-Action Films and the main page for example.

to Abbadon, the Skynet quote, the first parnell quote, and the first two of De Carta 's quotes
So should we cut the Skynet quote from Complete Monster since it's from the second where Skynet doesn't appear?

Okay.
In that case I still say it would be a good page quote. Though again the comic one works.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThank you all for the upvotes. This is my successful fanfic and I'm really happy that one of the characters I've created has a shot. I will say that in the Effort Post that he left out a few details or that there's a few inconsistencies (Not ones that would change Abaddon's verdict), but I'm sure if I'm allowed to specify any of them.
Given that it's for clarification rather than influence the voting process, I think it shouldn't be a problem.

J’m’arrête pas tant qu’j’vois pas des lignes sur les moniteurs (Not stoppin 'til I see Flatlines)Anymore opinions on which quote to use for the Terminator page? I'm starting to think that the comic one works better myself.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadYes MIR, Abaddon and Skynet.
Here is the Jaquio write up:
- Ninja Gaiden: Jaquio, the main villain of the first 2 NES games, is an evil warlock who wants to rule the world. Jaquio learns of legend about a Demon that came to Earth 700 years and went on a killing spree until it was defeated and defeated by a Shinobi. The Demon's body was imprisoned in a temple and its spirit was trapped in 2 different statutes, Jaquio plans to free the Demon, believing it will grant him great power. Jaquio takes over the temple ruins and kills archeologist Walter Smith and kidnaps Ryu's father Ken in order to obtain the statutes. When Ryu Hayabusa confronts Jaquio, he threatens to kill CIA agent Irene Lew if Ryu does give him the statute and plans to sacrifice here anyway after Ryu gives him the statute. When Ryu confronts Jaquio again, Jaquio reveals he has made Ken his mind-controlled puppet and has him attack Ryu. Ryu seemingly kills Jaquio, but Jaquio is revived by evil magic. Jaquio obtains the Sword of Choas and the Altar of Darkness that will allow him to open a portal and allow a horde of demons to enter Earth, dooming mankind in the process. Jaquio attacks Ryu through his pawn Ashtar. Jaquio plans to sacrifice Irene and Ryu to summon the demons to Earth.

Yes to Abbadon and Skynet.
Edit: I remember when I published my amateur screenplay last year. I was really happy to have completed a version of a story I came up with, and that people had read it. I'm sure that Lighty, Scrag, Tyk, Ravok, et al, can relate.

So this is it for ninja gaiden games. I don't think anyone counts in dead or alive it's spinoff as it's Big Bad Victor Donovan hasn't done much yet.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."

Wondr if his T2 Trilogy version would count ?
