During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

ACW said that the Fan Works is approaching it's limits. What do we want to do about it. I say we give either the My Little Pony or RWBY fan works their own page.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadWe could consider HOI 4 for a separate page as well since TNO, TWR and maybe Mod!Featherston from the TL-191 mod(a bit iffy on effortposting him at this stage) will push the number of candiates from mods to the amount needed for it's own page.

I feel like Trout is getting a little... exaggerated. Like, it's very easy to describe villains from shows like WBB in this way that, while technically true, is still over playing their actions/portrayal. I find it hard to believe that We bare Bears has a villain who's framed as committing a hatecrime
HAPPY HALLOWEEN FOR MARIA![]()
Fanscription to maybe. It has eight. And I don't doubt that we will find more. Also unlike the others it's one work technically.

Whether or not he counts, the film was clearly portraying Trout as being a bigot. His lines ("You filthy, mindless beast", "This is the closest I get to hunting you"). His crimes were framed as exactly that, hate crimes. Grizz said it exactly like it is "These cages, this reserve, everything. You're doing all this because you are afraid of what's different."
Harming people for being different is the definition of a hate crime.
Give fanscription, RWBY, MLP separate pages
Given HOI 4 mods separate pages when I finish the tno effortposts

Gideon and the Cioccolata quote (his name is the Italian word for chocolate, so obviously he's one of the C Ms with weird ass names)
Honestly after hearing it for a while, I think change my
and make it more an abstain, but leaning towards
, as with the NCIS villains
For Fan Works, just split MLP, RWBY, and Fanscription into separate pages, and unless there's webcomics or something we can just leave out images.

ACW: I am going to be honest with you. I don't think the Fanscription page should have an image. A lot of of it is fan art and I assume we would need permission to use that. I will let future handle the quote. But for the header. Something like:
Rather under the pen of Rob Walker or Walter Banasiak. Rather worse or similar to their canon counterparts. These villains go the extra mile in cruelty and and villainy.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
I would but I don't know how to screen capture. Though I can't really think of any good ones.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIt's likely that a HOI 4 mods page will not have an image either
A lot of it is just plain in game text.

On CM Incarnations Per Character, I made a section for the Pied Piper. Can anyone check it to see if I missed any?
I included: King Rat, Peter & Max, Once Upon a Time (he was combined with Peter Pan), Sleepy Hollow (though apparently that one's not the real deal), All Flesh Must be Eaten, and Extreme Ghostbusters.

As for a potential Fanscription quote. I have a suggestion that I am not sure about. It's from "What if The Joker was in 'the Dark Knight Rises'"
Batman: We've got to stop this bomb.
Joker: Nobody's stopping anything. We're all going out together. One big happy family. The Bat. The Cat. The Cop... And whoever the hell you are.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadAny more opinions on the header I proposed above
?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread

Ok if he started STARTED the fire with the intent to kill the bears I could upvote him, but it seems with what we know he's colossal hateful dick that at most simply left the animals to die. As murder itself has been attempted on the series, this feels more like a Moral Event Horizon move rather than a CM move.
