During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallChrist, thought the whole thing had something to do with my internet at first. Hell, I thought the site was updating again. Glad to know it wasn't just on my end, and that we didn't loose too much data.
Ultimate X-Men trio, Miyamoto, and Fanfic!Onaga
Like, half a day's worth of pages. We lost a few EP's unfortunately, but a lot of us remember them, and that they were in fact keepers.

It's Spooky Month!Oh hey, the forum’s back.
Well, anyway, I wanted to bring up this entry from Satyrday
- The owl is a powerful and megalomaniacal tyrant who rules over his army of ravens and the other animals of the forest with threats of torture and death. The animals who live under his rule exist in constant terror, as he's known to make dissenters disappear. In one instance, he has a young bird's wings broken and leaves him for dead. In the past, he massacred almost all of the humans in what became the Deadwood Forest, forcing the few survivors to live a wretched existence underground. Fourteen years ago, he sent a powerful whirlwind across the forest that killed thousands of the animals within and displaced many others. In the present day, the owl kidnaps the Moon from her proper orbit in the sky and cages her, causing the world to fall into turmoil with strange creatures and vegetation appearing that attack on sight. His ultimate plan is to rid the world of the Sun to create an endless night. When a group of dissident ravens manage to free the Moon, the owl becomes completely deranged and orders his falcons to kill the animals of the forest indiscriminately.
I don’t really like how this is written. It goes from what seems fairly recent in the story to “the past” to specifically “14 years ago”. It feels sporadic.

Berserk Button: misusing Berserk Button
Oh yeah,
Lavender Berry. Seeing as we have a Fallout crossover, I don’t see this as anything too unusual.
I also think that the owl entry is fine as is. I don't think it needs to be changed.
And yeah let them just do the write ups. There's no need to redo the EPs in my opinion.

Well here is the Ultimate X-Men write up:
- Ultimate X Men: From the Sentinels arc, Andrea and Andreas Von Strucker are mutant twins who run a company called Fenris and Stryfe is a mutant in their employ. Stryfe has the power to influence the emotions of others, making them angry and the Von Strucker twins want to use that to restart the war between humans and mutants so that they can sell Sentinels to the government. Stryfe forms a group called the Mutant Liberation Front that claims to fight for mutant rights, but Stryfe and the Von Strucker twins are using it to raise tensions between humans and mutants. Mutant Liberation Front protests are attacked by the Von Struckers' Sentinels, who kill many of the protesters and Stryfe flees as soon as the Sentinels appear. When the X-Men confront Styrfe and the Von Strucker twins, they activate a fail-safe that will cause the Sentinels to go out and kill any mutants they find.
Edit: I cannot add it to the Drafts, so it will have to be added tomorrow.

So the servers are back up again and my Onaga effort post was erased. I'm not sure if I need to do this, but I'll just put up the effort post in case we question if he ever got a proper effort post and to redo the votes (this time, I've saved this effort post in case it gets deleted again):
Here's another Mortal Kombat fanfic candidate.
What's the Work?
Another unnamed Mortal Kombat fanfic series
, but for this candidate, I'll focus on the stories Frostbitten
and The Curse of the Dragon Medallion
. This series focuses on Sub-Zero, where it expands on the events of the main series, giving the characters extended backstories and new actions. Sub-Zero has faced a hefty amount of villains, but most of them generally have the same crimes and, with the fanfic series' raised heinousness standard, none of them count so far. Except for this guy...
Who is Onaga and What Has He Done?
Onaga, the Dragon King, is the first ruler of Outworld, where he ruled with an iron fist and wanted to expand his control to the other realms. To that end, Onaga planned on conquering all of the realms to reawaken the One Being to kill the Elder Gods, leaving Onaga as the most powerful figure in existence. Afterwards, he would use a spell to destroy all of existence and use the six Kamidogu to recreate it, but eliminating the concept of free will and making everyone his mindless slave. However, Onaga lacked the knowledge to create said spell, so he captured Eidotheia (Raiden and Fujin's mentor and cousin) and Fujin, where he tried to coerce the former into creating the aforementioned spell by threatening to exterminate the Hydromancers, a race created by Eidotheia herself. When she refused, Onaga followed through with his threat, in which only a few like Rain were able to escape. Onaga then tortured Fujin to continue coercing Eidotheia, until she came up with a plan: she imbued all of her power and her knowledge into an artifact called the Dragon Medallion and gave it to Shao Kahn, which amplified his powers. In addition, she gave him a poisoned knife that was specifically designed to kill immortals like Onaga. The plan is successful, with Shao Kahn overthrowing Onaga, but the latter lived on as a bodiless spirit.
Recognizing that he would need the Dragon Medallion to wipe out existence, Onaga decided to focus on getting the six Kamidogu first in order to regain his physical form. He did so by approaching a young warrior named Shujinko, using the name "Damashi" and claiming to be an emissary of the Elder Gods. He manipulated Shujinko's idealism and naivety by telling him that he was a chosen champion of the Elder Gods, where he was destined to save the realms by collecting the six Kamidogu. Not knowing any better, Shujinko did what Onaga asked, but Onaga betrayed him when the task was complete, using the Kamidogu to reconstruct his body and completing at least one part of his plan.
Meanwhile, the Deadly Alliance had revived his skeleton army to conquer the realms themselves, attracting Onaga to Outworld to reclaim his throne. He easily defeated the Earthrealm defenders and the Deadly Alliance there, while Raiden tried to sacrifice himself by concentrating his power to create a massive explosion that killed him and others around him, but this effort was in vain, as Onaga is hardly fazed by this. In addition to his skeleton army, he brainwashes the Tarkatans, Zaterrans, and several kombatants like Frost and Jade to become his servants, building up his army. Afterwards, Onaga sent his forces to Outworld to not only find the Dragon Medallion (which is in Sub-Zero's possession) for him, but to also slaughter anyone who didn't submit themselves to his rule. This results in the destruction of numerous cities and villages, with thousands of corpses littered across Outworld. He also has his army wipe out the Edenian army, which eliminates any major threat to his own control of Outworld. Onaga later sends Rain on a mission to capture Sub-Zero's pregnant wife, Anya, to use as leverage against her husband. However, Rain disobeyed this order by trying to kill her instead, so when he returned, Onaga tortured him and decided to execute him, though Rain is able to escape. Although Onaga could pursue him, he decides to let him go, deeming him too minor of a threat and refocuses on regaining the Kamidogu.
As Sub-Zero and his allies repel each of Onaga's attempts to capture him, Onaga gets impatient and brainwashes a revived Raiden into becoming another one of his minions, sending him to capture the three Elementals (other kombatants in Earthrealm), including Anya, and to inform Sub-Zero about this development, obviously trying to goad him into being captured when he tries to rescue them. Scorpion goes in place of Sub-Zero and he is quickly overpowered and captured by Onaga. In his camp, one of the Elementals, Sherman, speaks out against Onaga, causing the latter to order Raiden to electrocute him as punishment, leaving him with an inch of his life. He then gloats that when he captured Sub-Zero, he's going to wait for Anya to give birth to his child, in which he's going to kill and revive it numerous times in front of Sub-Zero before he kills them both and turns the latter into his slave. After this exchange, he meets with an imprisoned Scorpion and prepares to execute him, but he's foiled by Hotaru, who's grown disillusioned with Onaga and rescues Scorpion.
In the final battle, all of the realms (who have united against Onaga) and Onaga's own forces engage with each other, with Onaga himself participating by raining fire down on the opposing force, killing hundreds. When he confronts Sub-Zero, he gloats that he'll make him watch his friends die a slow and agonizing death to punish him for his insurrection. During their fight, Onaga is initially dominating Sub-Zero, until Noob Saibot intervenes and tries to save his brother, but he gets killed by Onaga. Furious, Sub-Zero is able to harness the power of the Dragon Medallion, which he uses to overpower Onaga and kill him, ending his reign of terror.
Does He Have Any Mitigating Qualities or Freudian Excuse?
To justify his plan to wipe out existence, Onaga claims that he'll be enforcing order, but this is clearly just an excuse to dominate all of existence, considering that he'll make everyone his servant. Not even his allies will be spared from this plan. No Freudian Excuse to speak of either.
Does He Meet the Heinousness Standard?
Onaga tries to exterminate an entire race, razes entire settlements, tortures numerous characters, threatens to kill Sub-Zero's child multiple times in front of him, and plans to wipe out billions of lives by remaking existence. Very easy pass. No other antagonist in the series matches Onaga's bodycount, both actual and attempted, or the depravity of his crimes, so he's clearly the most heinous villain in the series.
Final Verdict
Easy
.
EDIT: I didn't read DemonDuckOfDoom's suggestion, as I wanted to handle this effort post in a quick fasion and didn't read the other messages. I apologize for that, but I suppose that this effort post can be left up, since it's all done anyways.
Oh and
