During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Wasp King and XANA.
For the Dick Tracy page, how about a picture of Big Boy above looking at Lips and a pic below of Lips being covered in cement? Then the header for the pictures would either be: “You’re dirty Lips. You need a bath.” “Not the bath Big Boy! Not the bath!” or “All’s fair in love and business!”?
Could also use: a picture of the rival gang car blowing up above, picture of Big Boy at the table below and the header for the pictures would be: “Very upsetting.”.
As for page quote, we could use this one for Big Boy (may be slightly misquoted): “You stand with me, we all triumph! You challenge me, we all go down! There was one Napoleon, one Washington, one me!”

Eh, screw it, I'll just post my Danger Zone write-ups here. I actually got into contact with Midnight about the audio dramas, and yes, they are indeed canon to the webcomic. Drezz's story takes place before Alacore's appearance, so he'll go first.
- Danger Zone One: Here are the worst PCPD officers Reena Saffron and “Maniac” Madison Wynter have faced.
- Drezz Vargo, from the “All Fired Up! The Hottest Case Yet!
” audio drama, is twisted pyromaniac with a mile-long rapsheet of arson and destruction. After faking his death to ward off the police, Vargo decided to work for scam artist Len Fyzer on his plan to destroy unoccupied NewGen factories. Trapping Reena and Madison in a factory, Vargo reveals that he implanted an explosive that will destroy an entire city block, laughing as he leaves them to die. After getting fed up with Fyzer’s conscience, Vargo tries to have him, Reena, and Madison killed in a collapsing warehouse.
- Daedin Alacore, from the Nightmare Island arc, is the chairman of Alacore Industries, and the one responsible for the degradation of Volkan Island. Having secured a deal with a company to supply them with non-human super soldiers, Alacore took advantage of the deranged Dr. Hastings’ plans to create the perfect marine-human hybrid by assisting her with her plans of world domination in return for her formula. Hastings would go on to kill dozens of people to test out her newest creation, with Alacore even ordering her to kill the scientists on the island to cover up loose ends. Once Alacore acquires the formula, he sends out the ninja Koji to take out Hastings and her Project 37 creature, feeling that they’ve outlived their usefulness.
- “Miss Bliss”, from the Fantasy Funland arc, is an elusive criminal on the ShadowNet who makes a living offering her services to others through the black market. Having engaged in crimes like drug trafficking and selling of hazardous sex androids in the past, Bliss offers her services to struggling Fantasy Funland owner Dalton Trayer, establishing a human trafficking operation underneath the park to sell young women’s organs for money. In her spare time, Bliss engages in torturing women until they break, gaining an immense amount of pleasure from harming others. Having captured Madison to be tortured for information, Bliss decides to keep her as her own personal pet, before attempting to kill Reena once she escapes and frees her stock.
- Drezz Vargo, from the “All Fired Up! The Hottest Case Yet!
I also want to make sure about something. Miss Bliss makes an appearance in the third novella (which is just a retelling of the Fantasy Funland arc) that doesn't mention her criminal past, nor the fact that the women are sold for their organs (the trafficking and torture are still there). Does this warrant a separate, shorter entry exclusively for the novella, or should I just not even bother?

It's Spooky Month!![]()
Was thinking Vargo's Web Original entry could go something like this:
- Danger Zone One audio dramas: Drezz Vargo, from “All Fired Up! The Hottest Case Yet!
”, is twisted Pyromaniac with a mile-long rapsheet of arson and destruction.
Also after this, the only main CM page category I will not have contributed to will be Tabletop Games.

It's Spooky Month!
to XANA and the Wasp King. I believe that his actions are enough to negate any sympathy that the Wasp King's Freudian Excuse could give us
My issue with weighing it is that it's hardly touched upon... it's like saying Bask Om can't count because he was tortured during the One Year War. All we know is that there's a troubled aspect to their past and saying we can assume they were driven to villainy as a result of it, that it excuses their actions, etc. is prescribing levity that isn't directly given in the work.
Yeah I would agree that a Freudian Excuse has to be a significant part of their character/directly shown or explained to qualify as a redeeming factor. If we were to count any hint of a tragic past as a full Freudian Excuse, Kefka couldn't count because he was tortured while becoming a Magitek, Joffrey couldn't count because Cersei brings up in passing that he was bullied as a child and had no friends, etc, we'd have very few examples left so it's limited to "their backstory is a significant part of the character" imo.
