During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

'Yes' to Carcer and Phillip, late 'Yes' to Allison as well, I'll have my Elemental Masters proposals coming soon, but first, to finish up this comic, next one from G.I. Joe vs The Transformers:
Who is he?
Golobulus is The Heavy of the 4th part of the comic, Black Horizon, abd leader of Cobra-La, a serpentine society hiding out under the surface of the Earth, biding their time until the day that they can claim the planet as their own, using the terrifying force that is known as Unicron to do so.
What has he done?
Centuries ago, Unicron came to Earth, seeking to devour the entire planet and its population. Seeking to save the world so as to one day rule it, Golobulus and his people created countless metal-eating spores, and threatened Unicron with them...before striking up a deal with him. Golobulus and his people would go into hiding for centuries, watching over humankind on the surface until the race had become sufficiently populated and thriving, at which point Golobulus will call Unicron back to Earth to feast on an even bigger meal than he would have originally, leaving the human-less planet for Golobulus to reign over.
Going into hiding as Unicron heads back into the universe to find other planets, Golobulus waits for hundreds of years as humanity matures, having anyone who ventures too close to the secret entrance of Cobra-La in the Himalayas butchered by his minions, and allowing his sadistic minion Pythona to take prisoners to torture and "play with" for a time.
Eventually, Golobulus, deciding that the time has come, kidnaps the Cobra scientist Dr. Mindbender and uses him to activate a "god-beacon", summoning Unicron to Earth to feast on humankind. Kidnapping the G.I. Joe agent known as Firewall, Golobulus plans to sacrifice her with a knife to the heart for all of Cobra-La to see as celebration of the coming of Unicron. Of course, Golobulus doesn't exactly trust Unicron, and has created an army of Yetis (yes, Yetis) to create even more of those metal-eating spores, to be used on Unicron should he try to renege on their deal.
Brutally abusing Pythona when she lets one of her prisoners escape, Golobulus prepares to murder Firewall, only for the G.I. Joe and Transformers team arrive. Golobulus sics a variety of brainwashed Transformers he has experimented on and "improved" on the heroes and attempts to kill Firewall one last time before he is smashed into the ground by Optimus Prime and left to be locked away by the G.I. Joes.
Freudian Excuse or other redeeming features?
None that I think hold up. Golobulus claims that humanity is polluting and destroying the Earth with their presence and use of machinery in everyday life, and says that he believes a world ruled by Cobra-La will be much more flourishing.
Thing is, Golobulus is noted by both narration and himself to find humanity "an annoyance," and he remarks that human and Transformers' presences "offends him," meanwhile he's allied with a massive machine (Unicron) to leave the Earth a barren wasteland, all in his insane quest to purge the planet of humans. Golobulus treats his minions like slaves, abuses and screams at them when they fail him, and for all of his talk of wanting Cobra-La to prosper, when the heroes begin assaulting his base, the first thing he does is start screaming at everyone around him to "defend me!"
His hatred for humanity seems merely misanthropic in nature, and all of his claims that humankind is "polluting" and "destroying" Earth, Golobulus ain't got one problem allying with Unicron to ravage the Earth.
Heinousness?
Golobulus is pretty similar to Shockwave—both seek to destroy humankind and both have several murders on their hands, and while Shockwave has the added addition of labor camps and threatened vivisection, Golobulus has nowhere near the resources that Shockwave does, and has his own more unique brand of villainy by fucking around with the biology and minds of Transformers to make them his subjects, and then there's the whole "stab Firewall to death just to celebrate humankind being obliterated"
Final Verdict?
Eeeeeyep!

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadOne I have in advance...
What's the work?
The play, William Tell was written by Friedrich Schiller in 1804; the Hapsburgs control the Swiss cantons, under the brutal governor Albrecht Gessler...hope arises in the form of William Tell.
Who is Albrecht Gessler?
The tyrant of Switzerland and a sadistic tyrant, Gessler is the regional bailiff/governor in charge of the Cantons, but isn't really interested in being a fair ruler. The Swiss are brutalized, killed, tortured, with new jails being built because Gessler has had so many arrested to languish there. Now, Gessler has a secret: he wants to give Switzerland an excuse to crack down. Everything he does is based around forcing the Swiss into rebellion so Austria can invade and 'pacify' the region, annexing it and crushing the people forevermore.
Now, Gessler does this...a lot, but outrage is finally left to boil over after Gessler sets his cap upon the square with all forced to bow to/salute it or face execution. And then he has an old man blinded for an irrelevant misdemeanor. It seems rebellion is inevitable, just as Gessler desires. Now William Tell fails to salute the cap and is arrested. His son Walter is taken and to earn 'clemency,' Gessler callously orders the famed marksman to shoot an apple off his son's head. When Tell reveals if he had killed his son, he would kill Gessler, Gessler orders him sent to prison for torture execution, but Tell escapes.
Now, in the subplot of rebellion, a peasant woman and her seven kids come across Gessler and beg him for clemency for her imprisoned husband? Gessler prepares to ride them over, saying he's been too lenient and will inflict even worse horrors on th Swiss people. ...only for Tell's arrow to strike him. With this line: "Dead, dead! He reels, he falls!... Look, children! This is how a tyrant dies!"
Mitigating Qualities?
Emperor Albert is the Greater-Scope Villain but Gessler is the main villain at hand, and what a villain he is: torture, execution, facilitating an invaion, being willing to ride down women and kids. The apple trick...Scraggle proposed his adaptation played by the incredible Conrad Veidt, but Gessler is as heartily monstrous in the play, being a tyrannical figure without a trace of goodness.
Conclusion?
A happy pass.

Okay change to
for Kong and abstain on Cthulhu
