During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Just gonna post my thing for Lunar.
- Streets of Rage (1994): Lunar is a slimy pimp who gets young women addicted to heroin, forcing them to become his prostitutes to feed their drug addiction. Lustfully obsessed with his prostitutes, to the point where he kills one of his own via an overdose once he grew tired of her, Lunar desires Melody Sails all for himself, disguising himself as rich Southern entrepreneur Scott to get closer to her. After attempting to rape Melody while she’s hungover, Lunar later kidnaps Candy, Steven, and Max to hold them hostage, ordering Melody to choose whether Steven or Max dies.
And I want to post the rewrite of Phibrizzo, as I feel he's been long overdue. I mean, when did Mir offer anybody to rewrite him, like 2 or so years ago?
- Original: Hellmaster Phibrizzo from the second season and eighth Light Novel, the oldest of the Mazoku, wants to destroy all reality. This is pretty standard for Mazoku, but Phibrizzo shows sheer joy by which he conducts his manipulations and when he tortures and kills his enemies. There are few other villains in Slayers who take such unmitigated delight in causing suffering, especially when Phibrizzo seems to target loved ones to give as much pain as he can to his targets.
Yeah, you get the picture.
- Rewrite: Hellmaster Phibrizzo, from Next and Vol. 8, is the oldest of the Mazoku who wants to destroy the world and return it to the Sea of Chaos. A sadistic demon who views death and the suffering of others as nothing but a game, Phibrizzo in the past had staged several massive wars between humans, dragons, and demons that led to countless deaths, all to awaken his master’s spirit. Using Garv as his pawn in the future, Phibrizzo easily kills him once he’s through with him and snatches Goury away, brainwashing him to become a loyal servant out of sheer boredom while keeping him inside a crystal that drains him of his life-force. Once Lina and the gang encounter him, Phibrizzo proceeds to murder them all by crushing a death orb tied to their life supports, gaining an immense amount of pleasure the more lives he literally shatters one by one. After Lina finally casts the Giga Slave and is possessed by the Mother of All Things, Phibrizzo attempts to kill Lina and set Mother free, preparing to die as long as rest of the world goes out with him.
Also look forward to some keepers from a Corey Haim duology next week.

It's Spooky Month!I think "pimp" should be potholed to Human Traffickers.

Fair point. I was posting it with the intention that ACW would see my pothole suggestion, though.

Who did I offer to rewrite?

The Sea Queen from To kill a kingdom is also based on her due to the thing being based on a dark, lose version of the film. With the whole lower body iscount an octopus thing and trident.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Okay I know I've brought th is up before with nothing comming of it. Could we please rewrite Cree Bega from The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara
- Cree Bega is The Dragon to The Morgawr. A Smug Snake of a Mwellret with a penchant for murder, Cold-Blooded Torture, Kick the Dog, and Fantastic Racism, Cree Bega is contemptuous of all the little peoplessss, and develops an unhealthy obsession with Ahren Elessedil, making it his personal mission to transform him into The Woobie. He forces Ahren to watch The Morgawr feed on the crew of Black Moclips for no other reason than traumatising him, and upon Ahren's escape, is given custody of his crush, Ryer Ord Star. He and his Mwellrets proceed to strip her, beat her, break all of her fingers, slash the soles of her feet, defile her until she faints, and then after she wakes up, tie her to a yardarm, lash her with a rawhide whip, and leave her to bake in the sun, leading to her suicide. During his final confrontation with Ahren, Cree Bega stabs Elven Hunter Kian In the Back, and then gloats to Ahren about what he did to Ryer Ord Star ("She took ssso long to die little Elvesss. Ssso long it ssseemed it would take forever."), before trying to kill him. The cumulative effect of all the trauma that Cree Bega puts Ahren through is an eventual psychological implosion that leaves him utterly shellshocked and broken into the next series.
First up 14 potholes. Secondly th is whole thing just reads weirdly.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Morgawr's also excessively potholed:
- The Morgawr is the Big Bad of the trilogy. He's a half man, half lizard freak who slaughters Grianne and Bek Ohmsfords' family, kidnaps Grianne, tells her Bek is dead, and convinces her that Walker, the Druid, and his Arch-Enemy is behind it, then raises her to be as bad as himself. He's also a magic-draining leech who feeds on the souls, minds, and magics of his victims and turns people into People Puppets by pulling their brains out through the back of their heads and eating them, leaving them with their skills, but no free will. In the opening pages of Morgawr he drains two-hundred fifty men onscreen, scarring witness Sen Dunsidan for life, and driving the latter's Torture Technician to suicide. He later does the same to the crew of Grianne's ship, Black Moclips, after she betrays him, before hunting her down and trying to kill her because he considers her life his property to dispose of how he wishes. Completely comfortable with his evil, The Morgawr takes pride in having brought Grianne down to his level, and finds her desire to better herself completely laughable.
Morgawr and rimmer dall aren't great either but those could be fixed by just removing the excess potholes. This though is such a mess that the bulk of the entry is potholes meaning removing them would take away a large portion of it.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."@ACW: Joyrock's entry looks fine. To be honest, I haven't seen the Slayers movies; I've only watched the anime. I don't even know who originally proposed him (probably Lighty).
@Mir: You didn't offer it to anybody specifically, I just remember you said something along the lines of "does anybody want to take a shot at rewriting this?"
I figured as such. I think we're the only ones here into Slayers.

It's Spooky Month!I can offer this for CB:
- Cree Bega is the smug right-hand of the aforementioned Morgawr and sadist with a vicious outlook on all non-Mwellrets who aims to break down Ahren Elessdel. Forcing Ahren to watch as he feeds the crew of Black Moclips to Morgawr, Cree Bega and his men proceed to torture and violate his Love Interest, Ryer Ord Star, causing her mind to snap and driving her to suicide. In his final confrontation with Ahren, Cree Bega happily reminds him of Ryer's prolonged defilement, his torment of Ahren so thorough it mars him lasting well after Cree Bega's death.
Alright, my last Ghostwalker one...I wanna just nix these off my To-do list now: from the short adventure Devil's Cellar
Now, in DND exists an evil race called the Yuan-Ti. They're basically snake people, divided into their own society...some of them look human, others like mroe snake-like and the most powerful are called Abominations, gargantuan snake-like humanoids ...they have their own demiplane called the Coil, and despise Manifest in Ghostwalk because they can't revive as ghosts themselves. Yuan-Ti have attacked Manifest many times, and in this adventure the PC's discover a wicked plot led by two Yuan-Ti, Venomblack-a Yuan-Ti Abomination, and his second in command: Stri'sn
Who is Stri'sn?
a Yuan-Ti cleric of Orcus who seeks to destroy Manifest. Helping venomblack to link the Coil tot he Undercity of Manifest and creating an area called the devil's Cellar, Sitri'sn has people converted by being bitten by Yuan-Ti and converted into brainwashed slaves as they prepare to assassinate a major figure in Manifest with intent of eventually seeing the city wiped out and the Ghostwalk stuff ended...now, Venonblack is mostly concerned with crafting a magic pool to empower himself and the monsters they create, but Stri'sn?
Stri'sn is the worst of the conspiracy and despises Venomblack...she has massive amounts of hostages taken, having multiple ones tortured and sacrificed to Orcus...but more than that, she subjects others to horrible experiments, and for a way to unwind and let off steam? She spends her time torturing the prisoners for information and fun, psychologically and physically with the PC finding many people she's ripped into and driven into horrible despair. One prisoner has been there two weeks with Stri'sn torturing him continuously and keeping him tormented by reminding him of his dead father and the inevitable truth he'll be turned into a brainwashed slave. Now, the PC ends up finding her operation and ending the threat of the Devil Cellar and magic pool, which involves killing Stri'sn herself.
Any mitigating issues?
No. She's not even a devout Yuan-Ti, being a devotee of Orcus (who is one of the most evil gods. Nobody good serves Orcus and his goals)...she wantss to help destroy Manifest, cause an assassination...but for the relatively less flesh out Ghostwalk, what puts Stri'sn above? Her penchant for torture. It's made clear she loves it, and relishes in psychological and physical suffering, indulging in torturing many prisoners for weeks, and can't wait to kill and torture more. For her relative standard here, she's well above the baseline and even the relative given the other low ranking villains.
And she despises Venomblack and vice-versa...but despite that, Venomblack actually cares for the other Yuan-Ti while Stri'sn...doesn't.
Conclusion?
A keeper, I'd say.

I believe because trying to figure out what was Mythos-related for other media would be too tricky (hell, even Lit isn't super easy; just look at the above).
