During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Here's my rewrite of Frank.
- Once Upon a Time in the West: Frank is a cruelly sadistic former bandit. Encountering a young Harmonica in the past, he forced his brother to stand on his shoulders with a noose tied around his neck, watching with glee as the young Harmonica collapsed and caused his brother to be hanged. Becoming an enforcer for railroad tycoon Mr. Morton, Frank kills off the McBain family for their property, happily shooting Mr. McBain’s son just for knowing his name—despite being told by Morton to just scare them—and frames the bandit Cheyenne for the massacre. Ignoring Morton’s peace offerings with widow Jill McBain, Frank takes Jill hostage, rapes her in exchange for sparing her life, and forces her to auction off her land, later murdering Morton himself to gain control over his railroad company.
To be honest, I'm a bit nervous about this one. Once Upon a Time is one of my all-time favorite movies, and Frank's one of my favorite villains, so I hope I did an alright job on this one.
Thanks!

It's Spooky Month!
to Isumi and Rosiland.
to Eugene
Now then here Lemi's write-up
- I am Wrath (2016): Lemi K is a sadistic crime lord from Columbus, Ohio who once ate a man's fingers in front of a rival gang. Retrieving an incriminating video of the Governor's son, Lemi K uses the video to blackmail the governor into letting him and his gang commit any atrocities they like without facing repercussions; as such crime dramatically increases throughout Columbus with Lemi K and his crew killing dozens of innocent people. On the Governor's behalf, Lemi K has his men kill Vivian Hill and her husband Stanley, and when Lemi K learns that the latter has survive and is seeking revenge on Lemi's gang, Lemi cuts off a finger from one of his own men for not telling him about this sooner and goes after Stanley's family, eventually holding them hostage and killing Stanley granddaughter himself.

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffOnly thing I might suggest for Frank's writeup is the context of Harmonica's name itself; it's a particularly godawful touch for Frank and it's so inextricably tied with his first crime I think it'd benefit the writeup (and provide context as to why the protagonist is named "Harmonica") to include it.
Quote for Cox (not that confident in it, but I’m gonna try anyway):
— "Afraid I'd give him peanuts? I know about his allergies Jack. Don't think for one second that I just barged in here from the rain."
- —Bill Cox telling Jack Stansfield he could (and later does) poison Jack's son Andy, Firewall
@mir Haven’t seen it in years, but Contagion is great.
@Scraggle Crazy that Outbreak and the other one are among the most watched movies right now because of all this. But it actually makes perfect sense.

BTW, I requested a change at Fan Works to split Western Animation into series and films so it's consistent.
I'd write something like this:
- Once Upon a Time in the West: Frank is a cruelly sadistic former bandit and the man the protagonist "Harmonica" owes his namesake and revenge to. Encountering a young boy in the past, Frank forced his brother to stand on his shoulders with a noose tied around the brother's neck, before placing a harmonica between the panting boy's lips and telling him to "keep your lovin' brother happy." Frank watched with glee as the young boy subsequently collapsed and caused his brother to be hanged.

Okay new EP...
What's the work?
Zendra is a comic by Luis Royo...a Sci Fi story concerning an intergalactic struggle against a warmongering race known as the Jekkarans, who consume entire worlds and species, taking prisoners to rot as trophies and of use aboard massive prison ships. Humanity is all but extinct, and the Jekkarans seek to conquer the galaxy. The villain we're discussing? One of the top Jekkarans, a warden of a prison ship: a monster named Abathor.
Who is Abathor?
a hulking beast of a Jekkaran, Abathor is a sadistic, genocidal monster who prides himself on the number of races he's exterminated, including humanity. Hunting the Aesirian race, all but gone, for their secrets, Abathor is introduced putting together an expendable raiding party for it....recruiting multiple prisoners with promises, informing one he's the last of his kind. "I know because I killed the second to last with my own hands." Any prisoners who refuse to cooperate, he kills with his bare hands, remarking "some you win, some you lose."
Hunting a young Aesirian, Abathor promises to dissect the child/larva to gain its secrets and consume them when the alliance intervenes, including our heroine, one of the last humans, prompting Abathor to remember exterminating humanity, promising he will bury the Aesirians in an adjoining grave to humankind. Now, with the captive Aesirian...there's a process requiring it to be implanted in a living, but damaged being. so Abathor shoots one of his own for the implantation. And then secretly orders his entire crew executed when he returns home.
Our heroine, Halle, witnesses past memories of Abathor's assault on humanity and his savage delight in genocide, prompting her to believe just the prospect of humanity's existence simply offended Abathor....his first test subject for the cocoon dies. Second test subject? The heroine Halle when he meets her, ripping her arm off to make a wound. Thinking his victory secure, Abathor plots to take over the empire as Abathor I, and executes his crew. Halle manages to escape with new powers, Abathor on her trail, plotting to exterminate her world and take the survivors as slaves....Halle proves to do a better job than anyone realizes, enraging Abathor who decides to destroy her world, even at cost of his life for spite...but knowing his crew won't allow it, Abathor slaughter sall other Jekkarans present.
Let me note, btw, that Jekkaran society is built on a tenet: no Jekkaran may harm another. They settle all differences within the mind. Abathor breaks thousands of years of taboo by murdering them and comments not one even lifted a hand to stop him, so unthinkable was it. So he's going to slam his ship into Halle's world of Zendra and kill everything, render it permanently uninhabitable...after having gassed all other Jekkarans he couldn't kill himself. Halle and Abathor fight, and Halle wins, slashing Abathor's throat, who dies vowing she will follow him to the grave with her world...only for Halle to stop the ship and end the battle.
Heinousness?
So, the Jekkarans are...genocidal warmongers, but Abathor? He's a sadist, a monster even by their standards. Abathor commits genocide on a multitude of worlds, wiping out countless species. but beyond that? He violates the single great taboo to murder and genocide his own people, just for spite and disgust.
Mitigating Qualities?
Nothing. Abathor is basically satan and when he's pushed to the brink he decides to give his own life to destroy Zendra, wipe out the good guys and annihilate their world...why? Because he's lived 700 years and what better way to go out than a last act of pure malevolent dickishness? No, Abathor is faithless, monstrous and views everything about him as a tool or a toy.
Conclusion?
Easy, easy yes.
Abathor.
Talk about Names to Run Away from Really Fast
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Unfortunately, I do not think we should allow them to post here since, having read their edits in their edit history, they do not seem to have proper grammar. I suggest they instead go to the Get Help with English thread
. Sorry if that’s not appropriate but shouldn’t we appreciate it if we only allow better English in this thread?

Okay, here's a writeup for a character who was approved but never written up here
. If everyone's fine with it, I'll add it to the Drafts.
