During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

And thanks to Scraggle for introducing me to this author:
What's the Work?
The Dark Ones by Bryan Smith is a 2011 horror novel...welcome to the town of Ransome, Tennessee, in the neighborhood of Wheaton Hills...long ago, something bad happened here and was covered up...nowadays? It's a happy little town, but some teenagers are bored there. A group of misfit teenagers called 'The Dark Ones' as their joke end up in an old abandoned house, where they inadvertently awaken something very old and very evil...enter Andras, the Marquis of Hell, who's mighty pissed off...
Who is Andras?
The 'Killer of Men,' Andras is a vicious demon who delights in perversion and monstrosity. One of Satan's best, Andras was summoned to Ransom long ago and tried to corrupt and destroy all he could. The people used him for dark desires and rites, but when Andras grew too strong and tried to destroy them all, they managed to seal him away, imprisoning him in the darkness of one old house to be forgotten and sealed off.
The kids? Wake him up. Andras begins to stealthily corrupt again, driving the townspeople to murder and perversion, with sexual rites, blasphemy and torture, enhancing others for the devil's army, and he's pissed off at Ransom. Converting several to his cause, Andras seduces several women to dark magic, possessing those close to them and settles on one dark One as a permanent host, after having his mother sexually assault him...Andras centers in on a girl named Natasha as his 'queen' for his rites, the love interest of the novel's hero, a boy named Mark...Andras twists her mind inside out until she's his perfect, depraved lover, and initiates hundreds to his cult....with orgies (with willing and unwilling participants,) slaughter, cannibalism and savage destruction. When one other proves problematic, Andras slaughters her family and interrogates the father by peeling off his skin, eventually sending out his followers to slaughter everything, initiating a Rape, Pillage, and Burn spree, gloating savagely with Natasha there...Mark, however, manages to find the way to stop Andras with the old rites. In the ensuing slaughter, they manage to use the old rituals to pull Andras out of derek's body and throw him back into darkness, forcing him even deeper into the shadows there, where he will rot in shadow forevermore, many so traumatized after being released that they kill themselves.
Mitigating Qualities?
Haha. No. The serial rape is bad enough, with torture, mass slaughter and Andras preparing a massive army to butcher everything or convert them into his cult. We see one another demon and he's nasty but not to Andras's level, with implications even other demons don't particularly care for Andras. Nothing good about him and nothing to add.
Conclusion?
And a yes.
Yes to Lighty's duo.
Goddammit Ransom, Evil Is Not a Toy.
Smith seems to be in the Wrath James White mold of splatterpunk authors?
Huh, I stand corrected (not that there's anything WRONG with savagely visceral ![]()
).

Yes to Ray and Andras.
Small correction to my Phantom EP. He made his fortune mining coal, but the gold was what he was looking for though. This is part of his reason for killing Jack as the gold found would belong to Jack legally. Do to it being far enough off his property. This doesn't make much difference and is not redeeming as when Jack offered him a fifty fifty split out the goodness of his heart he still killed him.

Ray and Andras.
As for Carol and Adam
, based on the few responses I got, it looks like neither of them are keepers (and frankly, I did not think they qualified either). Might do EPs at a later time just to be definite about their non-qualification, but for now, it looks like Senki Zesshou Symphogear can be said to have no CMs. Therefore, I will probably add it to the Rousseau Was Right page.

One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.Hey guys, so I have a few candidates from a Fan Fic that I just finished reading. The fan fic in question is called World of the Dead.
What’s The Work?
World of the Dead is a fan fic written by Rassilon001
based on the manga series Highschool of the Dead. Picking up about a week after the events at the police station in the manga, story follows the survivors of Fujimi High School as they attempt to survive and find their place in a world that is growing ever more dangerous. Now my first candidate to discuss is an original character in the fan fic Dr. Genzo Hikke.
Who Is He What? Has He Done?
Genzo Hikke, the Arc Villain of chapter III Rigor Mortis, is a doctor at a local hospital that Takashi and his friends go in for shelter. As they stay in the hospital Takashi explores the hospital where he soon discovers four nurses that were zombified and held captive in Hikke’s hospital.
Hikke then reveals himself to be researching and experimenting on zombies to learn more about them, but he needed test subjects (zombies) to study on so during the outbreak he intentionally infected all his hospital staff turning them into zombies for his experiments.
If that weren’t bad enough then Hikke also reveals that he’s been using his hospital to lure in people post-outbreak with false promises of food, water, medicine, and shelter, only to forcibly turn them in zombies (and more test subjects) once they enter his hospital, having done so with numerous people already and intending to do the same to Takashi and his friends, including the seven-year-old girl Alice.
After knocking Takashi out after the latter discovers Hikke’s atrocities, Hikke has Takashi forcibly restrained to a hospital bed alongside Saeko, who is also restrain herself and is stripped naked by Hikke. Hikke then plans to infect both Takashi and Saeko with the zombie virus at the same time to see who would turn into a zombie first.
However Takashi manages to break free from his restraint and tries to kill Hikke. Unfortunately Hikke manages to gain the upper hand and subdues Takashi before he attempts to suffocate him to death. Luckily, Saeko also manages to free herself who she then proceeds to grab a gun and shoot the mad doctor to death.
However Hikke’s assistant Ryo Cheisu got bitten by one of Hikke’s zombies and decides to kill himself so he won’t turn into one and Takashi decides to burn the hospital and Hikke’s research material to the ground before leaving said hospital.
Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?
Okay so Hikke says that if his research continues he could potentially find a cure for the zombie outbreak. However when Takashi says that if creating a cure is impossible Hikke merely comments that “eh humanity had a good run” with a smile on his face, showing that his only concerns is studying zombies for his morbid curiosity, everything else is completely irrelevant to him, including a potential cure.
He does keep his one staff member alive Cheisu, but that is only because he can use Cheisu, whose certainly more healthy and handsome than Hikke, to lure in more victims for Hikke, whom remains ignorant of Hikke’s true intentions, and once Cheisu learns of them Hikke attempts to kill him along with Takashi’s group without any remorse or hesitation. So yeah I don’t think Hikke possesses a true justification nor redeeming quality for what he does.
Heinousness
So yeah just like the manga it was based on, this fan fic takes place in an apocalypse would where zombies roam free and people willing to kill to survive, but I think with the resources Hikke has, he manages to stand out.
Hikke has infected his entire staff with the zombie virus, except for Cheisu whom Hikke uses for his own selfish purposes, lured countless people into his hospital to forcibly turned into zombies, attempted to infect Takashi and his friends with the zombie virus, including the seven year old child, and tries to kill Cheisu and later infects him with the zombie virus.
He also forcibly stripped Saeko completely naked before restraining her which really shows a very creepy and lustful factor on Hikke’s part. Really the only person who would match him in heinousness is my next candidate.
Final Verdict
I'm leaving it to you guys

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffI'll read that tomorrow. Also, for Metal Gear, why not all for the quote (I'm ignoring the paragraph breaks):
Alright so I have another character to propose from World of the Dead. Unlike Hikke, this guy comes from the original manga. You all might know him as Koichi Shido
Who Is He? What Has He Done?
Koichi Shido, the Arc Villain of VIII Active Decay and IX Advance Decay, is everyone’s favorite Sadist Teacher infamous for leaving to of his students to be devoured by the zombie hoard, manipulate the rest of his students to have sex with each other in the school bus and forcing Rei to repeat her junior year. Since this fic takes place in the manga’s universe he’s still guilty of all those crimes and much more.
Taking place after Shido crashed his bus as he leaves the Takagi estate, he leaves all his injured followers to get devoured by the zombie hoard while he escapes with those who aren’t injured, which is just two people; one of his followers turns into a zombie and kills a woman and her infant child.
Eventually making his way to a stadium Shido would for a cult based solely on his ego called the Black Sun, recruiting his followers by the masses. Shido would have his initiates battle against zombies unarmed where they would either get killed or kill the zombies, where they Shido would trap them in his stadium where he would manipulate them into worshipping him, turning them into Ax-Crazy fanatics in the process.
He would also subject them with hallucinogens, destroying his followers’ sanities while having them commit deplorable orgies to keep them under his control. Those that don’t follow his rules are imprisoned where he has them subjected to beatings for a week before feeding them to the zombies alive should they not submit.
When Takashi and his group tries to escape from Shido’s compound and zombies end up breaking into the compound, Shido leaves all his followers to be devoured by the zombies hoards while he tries to escape by himself. During the process he manage to injure his leg where he then asks Rei to save him. However knowing that Shido will just use her as zombie fodder leaves him to be eaten by zombies, but not before throwing his Social Darwinist rhetorics right back at him.
Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?
Just like in the manga, he had an abusive father. Also just like the manga this does not excuse Shido’s many atrocities in the slightest.
He also tries to act nicer to Rei claiming that she “changed” him, but that’s only because he is trying to manipulate her into joining his cult which doesn’t works because Rei hates Shido’s guts. He also treats Kohta a little better than his previous prisoners but its just to manipulate Takashi, Rei and their group into joining his cult and has no intentions of releasing Kohta from his imprisonment, intent to kill Kohta once he serves his purpose.
Shido eventually drops his Faux Affably Evil facade once the zombies break into his compound and abandons everyone to the zombie hoard, including his own followers and Takashi’s group, revealing that has no regrets for the things that he has done and doesn’t care about anyone but himself showing that the only thing that really changed about Shido is cowardice, ego, and depravities are amped Up To Eleven.
Heinousness
Just like in the manga and anime, Shido manages to stand out. Shido left most of his previous followers to be eaten by zombies, forms a new more depraved cult, forces his followers to fight zombies unarmed, uses drugs and manipulations to control his followers while keeping them trapped in his compound, brainwashes dozens of them to become Ax-Crazy fanatics and have them carry on orgies, abuses his prisoners before feeding them to zombies, and leaves everyone to die in the stadium once the zombies break in. Oh and no his followers don’t count since they are all Brainwashed and Crazy by Shido and aren’t heinous like him.
Final Verdict
I'm leaving it to you guys

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffI am conflicted on Freddy. On the one hand, that's quite a tragic upbringing (orphaned, abused by the orphanages, never knew his own birthday or age, was regularly beaten by his caregiver who even occasionally cut him with a razor and pimped him out to his friends, ended up a homeless drifter). On the other hand, that is quite a rapsheet (20 child murders, was going for 22 before he was arrested), and he is a Card-Carrying Villain (refers to himself as a serial killer, says he likes the title "Springwood Slasher" but would have preferred "Springwood Butcher"), not to mention his sadism (taunting the detective, hunting down the children like it's a game, mocking one of the parents of the children he killed).
jjjSince Comic!Liquid, Comic!Solidus, and Comic!Fatman qualify, and the comic was the basis for the MGS Digital Graphic Novel, should we add Cam Clarke, John Cygan, and Barry Dennen to the list of C Ms By Actor?
Berserk Button: misusing Berserk Button
@G-Editor: I had a feeling that the other candidate was Shido when you said the first one was an original character (which implied that the other one would be a canon character, and who other than canon CM Shido). Kinda wish I said that beforehand so I could surprise everyone by how clairvoyant I am.
Shido.

One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.

I'll just abstain on Freddy, the Fan Film is amazing tho. Having played Revengeance who knows how many times? Keep Sundower, his actions as a merc are individualistic enough.
