During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Going with my "we need more writeups done" belief now:
- Lair of the White Worm: The vampiric, serpentine Lady Sylvia Marsh poses as an erudite woman of wealth and taste to lure in victims. A servant of Dionin, Sylvia was incensed when Christianity came to Britain, spurring on the slaughter of holy men and women with nuns rapes and impaled in massive numbers. In present, Sylvia spreads her venom to create more snakelike monsters, murdering those she deems useless, and plots to sacrifice a woman in her annual ceremony for Dionin, the sacrifice achieved via being violated by Sylvia with a sharp object.
- Neighbourhood Watch: The demonic narrator is bound by contract to only prey on lawbreakers after 11 in the small, nameless town. Frequently going out and murdering those it finds, from a man robbing a register, a woman spraying graffiti and three teens breaking into a car, the monster plans to let the contract simply lapse without renewal. Once it does, the demon murders its handler Mrs. Bold and goes after a young boy named David that it despises, plotting to go on a savage killing rampage after.
- Rome Against Rome/War of the Zombies: Wicked priest Aderbad of the moon goddess has soldiers slaughtered to revive in his legions. Ceremonially having women sacrificed by being burned alive to fuel his magic, Aderbad unleashes his zombies on Roman forces and civilians to add to his army, plotting to turn them against the world itself to kill and dominate all he can.
- The Sawkill Girls: The demon known as The Collector is a wicked creature sealed on Sawkill Island. Hungering for prey, the Collector makes a pact with one family to serve him, dominating and even mentally or physically raping the one he selects as a 'queen,' terrorizing them into his subjects. The Collector has them bring him prey, young women he kills in agony while devouring them. With his latest queen Val, he has her bring him the sister of novel heroine Marion, and the other heroine Zoey's best friend Thora. When Val grows too independent, the Collector marks her as well, savagely twisting her mind to hurt all of them as much as he can.
I think I've got a good idea for a candidate: Dr. Zara from Abominable. I'm not going to do the write-up myself, though, since I've got a lot on my mind and when I went to see the film I was too distracted by a circular polarization filter failure to take in very much characterization details.
Berserk Button: misusing Berserk Button
Can someone please edit the Even Evil Has Standards in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer to show how it is subverted?
One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.
Maggie, Judge, Joker, Meister, the Director, and Aderbad

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffSo, tomorrow morning, the Simon Green page gets locked; this
goes to DC before Elseworlds.
Batman; Joker goes to other continuities; Lee to beginning of Bat-Family members:
- Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass, by Mariko Tamaki & Steve Pugh: John Kane, aka The Joker, is a respected son of Mr. and Mrs. Kane, owners of Kane Enterprises. Growing bored with Gotham, John Kane starts committing various acts of vandalism, setting buildings on fire and breaking cars. Deciding to manipulate Harley Quinn, John has her join his cause and tricks her into helping him to break into Kane Enterprise's headquarters, then having her help him carry bombs to the roof and orders his henchmen to hold her, as he reveals that he plans to blow up a gigantic sign of the building right on top of dozens of protesters below, planning to frame Harley for said crime. When Harley beats up his thugs, John escapes, while setting the bombs to explode, also revealing that he rigged to explode the garden at a school, which belongs to Harley's best friend, Ivy Du-Barry.
- Birds of Prey: Black Canary/Oracle (June 1996) & Robin: Year One (October 2000): Generalissimo Singh Manh Lee is the tinpot dictator of Rheelasia. Secretly far worse than his corrupt appearance already implies, Lee is a pedophile who enlists The Mad Hatter into brainwashing over a dozen little girls to "get to know them better", casually flaunting his diplomatic immunity to walk off at the end while all his minions are arrested.
