Any good potholes for Willi Herold? There's gotta be some trope for what he does.

That works. I guess for his name (or at least "Captain") we can use Antagonist Title? (Also, pardon me, but it's Herold.)

Sure to Jack.

Currently playing an obscure indie game called Mr. Maze. So far there's a candidate who seems promising, but the game is surprisingly longer than I expected. Will update as soon as I'm finished.

Story by me.

Ok I'm sorry about the Balagos thing. That said I do have a tangentially related question? If a villain kills someone or does something else horrible for an extremely lame reason, does that add to their heinousness rating? I would say so as "He killed Bob because Bob killed his dad", while not necessarily justified (maybe his dad was evil, and Bob killed him in self defense?) is at least understandable, whereas "He killed Bob because Bob had green eyes, and he hates the color green." isn't something any sane person would regard as a legitimate justification.

[tup] to Jack Angel.

Bloodbat: I'd say killing someone for a particularly petty or stupid reason would make them more heinous. I made a similar argument in the past on one of my candidates, as he arranged an elaborate plan that killed three people, which it was pointed out inverse was next to pointless and didn't benefit him in the slightest.

That's a legitimate question, Bootlebat, and one I am not sure I know how to answer. That said, it is my understanding that all acts of villainy affect the standard of heinousness.

However, I am under the impression that a villain with less resources who does a lot of damage for unsympathetic reasons, surpasses a sympathetic villain with better resources in heinousness.

Case in point, Detention. Sander Sanderson only has the use of a time machine, some rudimentary bomb making materials, an axe, and a knife, and almost manages to erase the future of Grizzly Lake; all because some girl rejected him. Gord leads an alien invasion with an entire arsenal of alien technology at his disposal; this time he wants to avenge his vegetable kin. Sander is more stand out heinous than Gord, considering he has less resources, and a lack of good intentions.

In short, assuming I'm not mistaken, Sander's lack of altruistic intentions, coupled with his comparative lack of resources, do make him stand out in heinousness compared to the aliens.

Got not one, but three killer kids in this EP! After this, I have another incarnation of Mengele.

What's the work?

Bloody Birthday is a 1981 movie about three bratty kids who go on a killing spree leading up to their collective 10th birthday. Shudder hails it as "the most disturbing killer kid movie ever", but The Children and Better Watch Out beg to differ imo.

Who are the kids? What have they done?

Debbie Brody, Curtis Taylor, and Steven Seton, are a trio of sociopathic children who share the same birthday. The day they were born, there was a solar eclipse, blocking off Saturn from the earth and simultaneously negating their capacity for empathy. The movie starts with them (unseen) attacking a couple in the graveyard, lynching the girl with a jumprope and burying the boy alive. Next, one of them leaves a skateboard on the steps outside, and Debbie lures her father — the sheriff — out by showing him the rope used at the last murder, and Curtis clobbers him on the back of the head with a baseball bat. Later, while the hero, Timmy, is playing hide and seek with the three children in the junkyard, Curtis tricks him into hiding in a fridge, then seals him inside, leaving him to die, though he escapes. Curtis later shoots the teacher and gives his gun to Steven, leaving him to kill any potential witnesses. Why did he do that? Because she refused to excuse the children from their homework since their birthday was coming up.

The kids make repeated efforts to kill Timmy and his older sister Joyce, including: Debbie attempting to push him onto a length of exposed rebar but stopping when her house phone rings, Steven and Curtis luring Joyce out to the junkyard and trying to run her over, and trying to shoot them in their own house. Of course, all these fail, but Curtis does succeed in shooting a couple having sex in a van. At the party, Curtis attempts to poison the frosting on several of the cakes, but is caught by Joyce. But he does successfully gun down a couple having sex in a van. Timmy eventually starts throwing rocks at Debbie's house, and the three chase after him, and hold him down while trying to strangle him in the garden until Joyce catches them. At which point, they pass it off as having just been a game. Eventually, Debbie kills her own sister, Beverly, with an arrow to the eye through a peephole (I'll talk about that later). A few days later, Debbie asks Joyce and Beverly to come babysit, and the kids take the opportunity to finally dispose of them, only to be beaten up, outwitted, and arrested, with the exception of Debbie, who claims the two forced her to do horrible things, and flees town with her mother, changing her name and continuing her killing spree, leaving a dead body behind at the hotel.

Mitigating factors?

The most glaring one is that whole astrological explanation of sociopathy, which ... my own opinions on that aside, that doesn't really mean anything. Just because you lack empathy and remorse doesn't mean you have to go around killing people for no other reason than pure enjoyment. Also, them being kids and/or being on good terms with their families isn't exactly mitigating, either. The only reason Debbie keeps her mother around at the end is so she can unwittingly enable her to kill even more. About that peephole? Debbie made it so that other kids could pay her quarters to watch her sister undress.

While a lot of their attempted murders were botched, the intent was still there and it still counts. The only other factor I can think of is that Joyce notes that Curtis doesn't seem to know what he's doing is wrong. But that doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy it. Also, they don't care about each other, either, with Debbie being perfectly willing to sell out her "friends" when it benefits her.

Heinous standard?

Curtis is the one who does most of the dirty work and is clearly The Evil Genius of their operation, but Debbie is more or less the mastermind. Steven ... doesn't really get to say or do a whole lot aside from trying to run over Debbie, but he is fully aware and compliant and there's nothing to suggest he's any better than either of them.

Verdict?

All that weird astrology shit aside, keep.

Abstain on Debbie Brody, Curtis Taylor, and Steven Seton. If that astrology stuff clearly affected their moral agency, I can't in good conscience say yes to them. That being said, they're more than bad enough, and barring the moral agency issues, I don't really have anything to say outright no to them.
