During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Yea on Sander Sanderson...
Anyways, while I'm afraid that I will get thumped. I kind of want to bring this bad news to you all: One of the anime studio, Kyoto Animation, famous for the likes of Violet Evergarden, Harumi Suzumiya or Hyouka got attacked by an arsonist which kills around 33 people.
This is saddening as Kyoto Animation is one of the most beloved anime studios as for now and one of the director from Kyoto Animation, Yasuhiro Takemoto, is either dead or missing. But yeah, I think it's at best for us to pay respects and hopefully, the victims from the fire may rest well.
On the bright side however, for my tribute to Yasuhiro Takemoto if he's truly dead during the arson attack, I got a candidate from a work where Yasuhiro works as a Key Animator in there. Call it as a tribute for him but hopefully he's either safe or if he's dead, I hope he will have a better next life. And special thanks to miraculous for recommending me this. Without further ado, let's begin shall we:
What's the Work
Tenchi Muyo! is a rather popular anime series despite most of the anime aired on OV As iirc. The story? I'll let TV Tropes page speak to you:
"The OVA series Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (simply Tenchi Muyo! in the United States) follows the life of Tenchi Masaki (voiced by Masami Kikuchi), the teenage grandson of a Shinto priest (who has taken it upon himself to teach Tenchi an ancient form of swordplay). When Tenchi steals the keys to — and intrudes upon — a sealed cave on the shrine grounds that legends say holds a sleeping demon, he accidentally releases Ryoko (Ai Orikasa), a Space Pirate who had lain in suspended animation for seven centuries. This lone act begins a cascade of events that results in Tenchi moving from Kurashiki to the Okayama countryside, acquiring a half-dozen alien girls in an Unwanted Harem, discovering his own secret heritage, and becoming involved in events of literally cosmic proportions."
Yep. It's one of the most popular harem series on its time around 90s and spawned several spin-offs and was one of the animes that contribute to the Anime Boom that happened in the United States along with the likes of Ranma 1/2 or Sailor Moon.
Now, in this franchise, we have a keeper in a form of Kagato via OV As. However, the candidate in question? Come from movies which I recall takes place I guess in a different universe (Thanks mir for the information) and the movie in question is where Yasuhiro works as a Key Animation crew. The movie is the first of the three movie set in "Tenchi universe" and is called "Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi in Love!". Our candidate? Meet the Big Bad Kain everyone!
Who is He/What Has He Done
Okay, in the first movie, the Big Bad name is Kain. He is a powerful Super Class A extraterrestrial criminal who, a hundred years ago, destroyed 13 federated planets and 275.000 spacecraft during his crusade on causing destruction in the universe. Fortunately however, he was captured by the Galaxy Police and the Jurai Emperor even if some of their spaceships were destroyed.
However, it didn't last long as Kain manages to escape hundred years later and destroy its headquarters, killing everyone inside. Driven by resentment because of the Jurai Emperor sealed him, Kain then targets one of the descendants of the Emperor, Achika Masaki, who is revealed to be Tenchi's mother btw. Because of Kain's action, Tenchi was almost erased from the existence and this would also affect the future of his harem girls, Ryoko, Ayeka, Sasami, Ryo-Ohki, Mihoshi Kuramitsu and Kiyone Makibi.
Because of this, Tenchi and his friends tries to travel through the past and attempts to stop Kain once and for all by travelling to 1970s. Oh yeah, before he come, his energy makes both Achika and Tenchi writhing in pain. Kain then makes his entrance by trying to usurp Tokyo Tower and kill everyone in there where Achika and other students were taking a trip to Tokyo Tower.
However, during the fight, Kain was managed to be sealed easily although he manages to took both Achika and her future husband, Nobuyuki, to a prison planet where he was sealed. In there, he attempts to torture Nobuyuki while forcing Achika to watch the horror. However, Achika herself manages to release her true power and manages to defeat Kain. When Tenchi, his companions, Kain and unconscious Nobuyuki tries to escape even if Kain is seemingly defeated, Kain attempts to took Achika again for the last time before meeting his end by the Dimensional Cannon. Killing him once and for all. Although due to Achika's use of her power, her lifespan was shortened. So yeah, a bit of a Bittersweet Ending I guess.
Freudian Excuse/Mitigating Factors
Yes multiples zero.
Heinous Standard
Now, it's kind of understandable if you think heinous standard is an issue given the awful atrocities that Kagato had done (See the CM entry on Tenchi Muyo's YMMV page and you get the picture on what Kagato looks like). However... I might gonna give Kain a little bit of a leeway here because thanks to Mir, he said that the movies takes place in different continuities within the OVA and even then, I believe Kain just makes it with his destruction of planets and spacecraft which kills a lot of people and his attempt on killing Tenchi's mother which would erase Tenchi from history... Yea.
Final Verdict
Your call. I can understand if you think he doesn't count but even then, I make this EP as a tribute for the Kyo Ani director who may or may not died during the fire. But yeah, I'm hoping this incident didn't happen again.

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Detention: Sander Sanderson is initially presented as a pervert who constantly makes unwanted advances towards Riley Jones, and a classmate of Ione Rose and Clapton Davis. Brutally murdering the popular Taylor Fisher, attempting to kill Riley, and later butchering the athlete Billy Nolan, Sander feigns friendliness with his classmates while planning to kill them. Outraged by Riley's constant rejection, Sander kills exchange student Gord and Principal Karl Verge, then travels back in time to 1992 in order to convince a young Verge to eliminate the town of Grizzly Lake in an explosion with his help. When Riley and Clapton foil Sander's plot, he attempts to detonate the bomb himself, only succeeding in killing himself. In the altered timeline, Sander attacks Clapton and Riley, decapitating his implied sex partner Alexis when she walks in on him attempting to kill Riley for rejecting him. Lecherous, entitled, and contemptuous, Sander is a galling example of a possessive creep.
