During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

for the Face. Not sure on Xerosic though. I doubt he would've given in to that whole power of friendship bit, but then again...there have been absurd redeeming qualities for CMs that are a blatant Ass Pull that end up nullifying them. So I don't know.
As for RWBY: Dark?
-sighs- This is gonna be one of those "debates."
I'll read it. I'll let everyone know if it falls under the whole Ron the Death Eater and/or grimdark "trash" category or not. But seeing as how it's an alternate universe and all, I'm feeling a bit more lenient.
I write stories and shiz. You can read them here. Not voting on Ruby. I don't care if she counts or not, but I'm personally sick of these RWBY fics and the Dark Fic Ron the Death Eater take is not endearing me to this one in the slightest.
Xerosic I'll think on. I have similar concerns with him as I did with Agatha, but I might be a bit biased toward having an iteration of him up because of how forced his redemption was in the games.
Also? Back from Far From Home.
Damn, didn't knew that RWBY fanfics were a Berserk Button here. My bad.
On the meanwhile, here's Basam-Damdu's writeup:
Blake and Mortimer: In The Secret of the Swordfish, Basam-Damdu, the emperor of the Yellow Empire, is the Big Bad. After claiming that he wanted peace, he attacked the free world, bombing several capitals in order to break the free world's minds, successfully taking over the world. When La Résistance starts fighting back, Basam-Damdu and his Great Council put the blame on Olrik, subtly threatening him and telling him to force Mortimer to reveal the Swordfish's plans in two days, or he will sent someone to torture Mortimer. When La Résistance is slowly winning, Basam-Dudu launches all of his empire's nuclear arsenal, attempting to destroy the world out of spite. A selfish, uncaring Smug Snake who didn't care even for his own empire, Basam-Damdu stood out as the worst Blake and Mortimer Big Bad Edgar P. Jacobs created.
Edit : After much thinking, I'll give a weak
to Xerosic.

J’m’arrête pas tant qu’j’vois pas des lignes sur les moniteurs (Not stoppin 'til I see Flatlines)
Please add to the Drafts.
I think the RWBY fanfics are somewhat of a Berserk Button because there was one point when there were SO MANY.
Added to the drafts.
Oh. It explains everything. I apologize if it ticked off some people.
J’m’arrête pas tant qu’j’vois pas des lignes sur les moniteurs (Not stoppin 'til I see Flatlines)Not sure if this was brought up yet, but I found this on the YMMV page for The Lost World:
- Complete Monster: Dodgson. This man was homicidal years before the events of the novel. It's stated that he killed at least 10 people with spreading an experimental rabies virus without informing the locals. At least one of the casualties was a child. If he wasn't a Jurassic Park villain, he would be a serial killer.
@Lost world: Since that Same troper added it back after we already deleted it without coming here first. I'm reporting them on Ask The Tropers
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
I just re deleted that unapproved example and PM the user who added it. Also, according to the history page, this URI guy re added Dodgson because he’s on pure evil on villains wiki. He clearly doesn’t know how this works, so I PM on how Dodgson needed to be EP here first. Not sure if he’ll listen, but if he doesn’t, i’m afraid we’ll have to report him.
Joy. I looked through there edit history and they added an entry for Sophia Lamb
as well.
Apparently villainswiki....approved her too. Weird. I thought it was clear that she had some genuinely good intentions.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Maybe it's because I'm relatively new, but I don't quite get why suggesting a RWBY Dark example is so contentious. Yeah, it positively screams "Ow the Edge", but there at least seems to be a plot beyond "Character X does horrifically evil things".
And I was under the impression that Ron the Death Eater was mainly used for bashing. This seems more like a(n admittedly severe) case of Adaptational Villainy.
I'm gonna abstain on this RWBY Dark thing out of sheer apathy, but for the record I think that "Mirror Universe" / moral inversion fic is absolutely a legit thing and should not be considered the same as Ron the Death Eater.

It all reads like some attempt at being edgy and nothing more.
