Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Well, here's the last Echoes CM candidate, before I move on to MB candidates.

Well, the last candidate, of rather, the two last candidates, aren't characters you would expect. At all.

We're talking about Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha (from Kitsune (Insane!Naruto)'s world).

What's the work?

Who are Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha? What have they done?

Much like canon, Fugaku is the Uchiha clan head, and Mikoto is his wife. Their marriage is an unhappy one... And then it lead to disaster.

Jealous of Kushina and Minato's marriage, they (more precisely Mikoto, in spite of being Kushina's best bud) revealed their location to Amateratsu (Kitsune's World!Madara Uchiha), which lead to the Kyuubi attack, which lead to Minato and Kushina's sacrifices.

Regrets? None.

After the Kyuubi attack, Fugaku contacted his nephew, Shisui, abused his loyalty to the clan, and had him brainwash Konoha's Inner Council so that they oppose any of the Hokage's policies that doesn't benefit the Uchiha (a coup in all but name, in other words). They also requested Amaterasu's help in taking over, not caring if Konoha is destroyed in the process (Fugaku went as far as to say that he'd rather rule over a grave that not rule at all) since Amaterasu will try to damage Konoha as much as possible on the meanwhile. When Amaterasu told them that he will consider helping them if they give him Kitsune (Insane!Naruto, who is still a child by that point), Mikoto happily accepts. Shisui, having secretly watched the whole meeting, realizes that he was essentially manipulated by Fugaku. Amaterasu, who decide against helping them because he's not fond of betrayal, gave a Breaking Lecture to Shisui. Driven to borderline insanity by these revelations, Shisui pulled a Thanatos Gambit by brainwashing Itachi into killing him, thus gaining the Mangekyo Sharingan and starting the Uchiha massacre. Much to everyone's relief, Fugaku and Mikoto weren't spared.

Heinousness?

When you see the state of mind in which Kitsune's World!Shisui (he's been driven insane by their betrayal) is due to their actions, you can't help but say that his Freudian Excuse is quite valid. On top of that? Danzo (and pretty much everyone who had suspicions about them) was utterly and completely right about them. They're that bad. On top of that, even Amaterasu (Kistune's World!Madara Uchiha), who wanted to see warfare continue permanently, who was hanging out with two other Madaras (to describe the Madara Trio... Each time the heroes met them, one of them kicked the bucket), who wiped out Wave-verse's Kyuubi, an entire country and it's inhabitants with a Bijuu-obliterating attack and is a notorious Blood Knight, was disgusted by their betrayal and cowardice and gave them “The Reason You Suck” Speech.

On top of that, they appeared way before the Warlord, Teikoku!Obito and Alpha, so they still manage to be quite heinous. Even Kenta, who was mentioned before (as a Posthumous Character of the Wave-verse) has trouble competing because Fugaku and Mikoto's actions fucked up Kitsune's entire world. Oh, and these guys appeared in only one chapter, yet left an important impact.

Freudian Excuse, Redeeming Qualities or Mitigating Factors?

Nothing for Fugaku.

For Mikoto... Kushina (or Minato) rejected her advances so she had her and Minato killed. Yeah. Disproportionate Retribution at it's finest. No better, absolutely no better.

Oh, and their marriage? They hate each other. They were married because of clan laws where they wished they could marry out of love, which lead to both of them becoming green-eyed monsters and lash out at Minato and Kushina, because they married out of love, unlike them.

Their supposed loyalty to the clan goes out the window when you know that they sell out Kushina and Minato to Madara without consulting the rest of the clan, thus putting the clan in jeopardy out of pettiness towards Minato and Kushina. Fugaku tells Shisui that the coup is for the good of the clan, but he just wants to gain power for himself. No need to mention that Fugaku had no qualms in manipulating his own nephew. On top of that, they're overconfident (Mikoto's ego is almost comparable to Alpha's), expecting Amaterasu to help them, without thinking that Amaterasu could betray them. Barring Teikoku!Obito, they might be the most selfish Uchihas in the fanfiction. No wonder Shisui went genocidal.

Oh, they're also posthumous characters. However, their actions pretty much caused everything that's wrong in Kitsune's world. Not even Kenta had such an impact.

Verdict ?

I'll leave it up to you guys.

I'm...not seeing it with them, TBH. I kind of feel they come up short to the others and things spiraled more out of control than they initially intended unless I read that wrong.

Unfortunately, I think I may have to vote nay. I don't think they breach the high heinous standard of this fanfic.

Two questions:

  • Do we see them at all? We HAVE had a few CM's that were a Posthumous Character (Count Almeida comes to mind), but we DO have to see them.
  • Can we get a summary of all the current keepers? They're all starting to blend together, and the heinous standard seems SUPER high.

As mentioned, those who heightened the standards (Alpha, the Warlord, Obito), appeared much later in the fanfiction. On top of that, Mikoto and Fugaku's influence left a lasting impact in Kitsune's entire world, while Kamui moved on from the suffering Kenta gave him.

@ACW First sentence of Ram's entry should also cut the second Ram as well.

@ACW (again) Clarence Darby also comes to mind, so it's not unheard of for a CM to be a Posthumous Character (technically he's in the beginning of Law Abiding Citizen and then dead for the majority of the movie).

I might add MIB: International to my to-do list, but if anyone else gets to it first, that's fine. Also, I have MIIB on there with a question mark too. Either one is up from grabs though really.

More than halfway through Season 3 of Designated Survivor and we're looking to have a keep that unlike Lloyd will hopefully stick around. EP coming soon I think, so fingers crossed.

@Georgie, villains introduced earlier on can still fail the heinous standard later if worse villains are introduced. Even if they did intend for the suffering to occur, it doesn't sound like they go to quite the extremes of Yagura, Kenta, or Alpha.

[down]I think ACW meant summarizing what each villain does in the story, so that we can see who really stands out.

  • All of them (barring Kenta in the Wave-Verse) are seen, either in the present day, either in flashbacks.
  • Current keepers, by order of appearances :

    • Kenta (if you count his mention in the Wave-verse and his short appearances in Kakashi's nightmares)
    • Alpha and Yagura.
    • Obito and the Warlord.

And, Mikoto and Fugaku stands out due to their Chronic Backstabbing Disorder.

And yeah, just because a villain is first, doesn't mean they can't be outheinoused. The only time that really happens is for genre-defying villains (Hans Gruber, Michael Myers).

- Kenta experiments on children (when he's not using them as prostitutes to fund his activities), is obsessed with Kamui/Kakashi, to the point he tried recreate him (killing and wounding countless children in the process), attempted to kill his wife and child (and succeeded in the Wave-verse) and in the Past Enemy Arc, attempted to kill Rin and Kamui out of spite when Kamui tells him he's going to do everything to forget him.

- Alpha, a selfish hypocrite, continued Hashirama's genocidal program (leading to 90% of the world population dying) but also slaughtered some included in Madara and Hashirama's "Master Race", namely the Senju, the Uchiha and the Uzumaki. Anyone who is still alive is either brutally killed if they're outside Konoha, or risk becoming the Un-person if they try to disobey her. That is, if you're not mind-raped and tortured to near death like Haku and Chibaku (a pre-teen) can attest.

- Yagura killed his own minions for petty reasons, attempted to kill anyone who had a bloodline, started in Kiri a graduation program based on Social Darwinism (students, friends, kill each other and the strongest graduates) engaged in cannibalism and released the Sanbi out of spite in being defeated.

- Obito destroyed his world with the Infinite Izanagi in order to create his own fantasy world, planned to do the same to the multiverse, abused one of his creations, and ultimately saw all of them as replaceable, destroying Konoha for psychological warfare. When defeated, he released the Ten-Tails out of spite.

- The Warlord killed his own friends, left his wife comatose, destroyed billions of Narutos and dozens of universes for kicks, and planned to wipe out all life because he saw himself as the only one worth existing.

As for Fugaku and Mikoto, I'm fine with them being downvoted, I suppose then that they're more suited for Hate Sink.

Okay, I wanna get these three together. I asked Lighty, and he said to ask ~Erazor0707 and ~Lore Deluxe. For AniManga:

  • Nasuverse:
    • Lunar Legend Tsukihime: Michael Roa Valdamjong was once a pure priest who fell in love with the True Ancestor Arcueid Brunestud. Growing to despise her for stealing his "purity", Roa became a parasitic vampire who stole the lives of others, possessing them to take new incarnations, going on vicious murder sprees to steal countless lives in hopes of drawing Arcueid to him to possess or torment her. In his 17th incarnation, Roa possessed a girl named Elesia and used her to rape and murder the people of her village. In the present, Roa incarnates in SHIKI Tohno, intending on killing even more people before going after Arcueid again, disdaining her for being "sullied" from the pure vision he once knew.
    • Fate:
      • Fate/Zero: Ryuunosuke Uryuu is the master of the equally sadistic and twisted Caster, Gilles de Rais, but lacks the latter's care for Jean de Arc, making him worse by comparison. He introduces himself by sacrificing a child to summon a demon and becomes ecstatic when he watches Caster kills said child. It is soon revealed that Ryuunosuke is a Serial Killer of women, children and whole families, whose MO involves luring his victims to Caster, which then proceeds to torture and mutilate them before slowly killing them. When their hideout was discovered and destroyed by Weaver and Rider, Ryuunosuke convinces Caster to summon a demon in Fuyuki City River in an attempt to kill even more innocents. Despite forming a bond with Caster, this is simply a reflection of Ryuunosuke's own murderous traits rather than any genuine care, which he loudly states on using it to cause death on a grand scale, while he won't have to worry about dirtying his own hand. Taking joy in murder, suffering and death, Ryuunosuke is one of the most depraved masters in the history of Holy Grail War.
      • Fate Apocrypha: Celenike Icecolle Yggdmillenia, amongst the morally ambiguous Yggdmillenia family, is the only one who absolutely has no moral compass. Celenike practices blood magic, sacrificing innocents, including children, which she takes great pleasure in. A sadistic dominatrix, Celenike keeps a dungeon in her spare time where she tortures those who cross her, or just those who catch her fancy for the fun of it. In between missions, Celenike will very regularly torture, rape and murder attractive young men, especially homunculi she deems "useless". Celenike also become fixated on her Servant Astolfo. After becoming jealous that he is forming a bond with Sieg, a homunculus who has formed an identity, Celenike snaps and uses her Command Seals to force Astolfo to gruesomely murder Sieg just to break Astolfo. Unlike her other family members and many other antagonists from the franchise, Celenike is motivated by nothing more than cruel lust and unrestrained sadism.

[up][up][up]Okay, from that summary, Obito and the Warlord seem to be just distinct enough with their personal atrocities, so reaffirmed [tup] to them. Kenta is the embodiment of Would Hurt a Child and seems to be lower-tier, so I think we're good with him too. Yagura engages in cannibalism, plus his Social Darwinism program sounds uniquely nasty, so I think we can keep him. Not sure on Alpha. Still saying no to the duo.
