Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I specifically remember that character being removed because he wasn't deemed heinous enough. I'm just gonna remove it and leave a message. In the future, if you see an entry that's on the YMMV page but not the main page, check to see if it was just recently approved and then simply remove it. You don't need approval here to remove unapproved entries.

Edit: It's always fun to type up a response and, in the time it took you to type it, other people have already got there before you.

Hi everyone!

I have quite a few characters from various works I'd like to propose. I have not been on this site for very long and this is my first time posting in this topic (or any other forums), so I hope I did the presentations right, feel free to correct me if I did something wrong.

By the way, I think I should probably indicate that English isn't my first language, so I apologize in advance if I make some mistakes or if some of my sentences are a bit difficult to understand clearly (again, you can tell me if that happens). I promise I'll try to do my best.

Here's my first candidate. I don't know if he has already been discussed before, it's hard to be sure considering he has arguably the most common name brought up in this thread. Anyway, I'm pretty convinced that he should easily qualify.

What's The Work?

666 Satan (retitled "O-Parts Hunter" in North America) is a Shōnen manga written by Seishi Kishimoto, the twin brother of Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto.

(If someone is planning to read this manga, beware, I'm going to reveal some major spoilers).

The story takes place in a world vaguely similar to Earth. Except that there are mysterious objects with special powers called O-Parts scattered across the globe. Usually, those objects can be found in some of the numerous ruins left by an ancient civilization from before mankind existed. The descendants of this now-extinct civilization are the only one capable of using the O-Parts' powers, and are called the O. P. T. (for "O-Part Tactitiens").
Oh, and there are also ten demons and ten angels (not all of whom are good guys) originating from the two Kabbalah who are roaming freely in the planet (some of which are sealed within humans).
Besides, there is the fact that, in addition of normal animals identical to those from Earth, there are giant monsters pretty much everywhere in this world (giant turtles, giant snakes, giant centipedes, giant fishes...), and most of them are man-eaters.
There are apparently four large continents, but most of the story takes place in only one of them, named Askald. From what we're shown, the planet seems to be mainly covered with deserts.
In addition of humans and O.P.T.s, there is another sapient humanoid species known as Cyclops, whose members each have a Third Eye. However, they are rare and usually remain hidden from the rest of the world.

The planet is ruled by the Stea Government, which collects the most powerful O-Parts and is secretly trying to capture the ten angels in order to insert them back within their Kabbalah and obtain unimaginable powers.

Its primary enemy is a criminal organization known as the Zenom Syndicate, which traffics powerful O-Parts and is trying to capture the ten demons in order to insert them back within their Kabbalah and obtain unimaginable powers.

The manga follows the adventures of Jio Freed, a 13 years old O.P.T. who wants to Take Over the World, and Ruby Crescent, a 15 years old treasure hunter in search of the Legendary O-Part (supposedly the most powerful and precious O-Part ever) who hired Jio as her bodyguard. During their quests, they are eventually joined by new friends such as Ball and Kirin. Of course, they are also confronted to plenty of villains, whether they are evil humans, evil O.P.T.s, Zenom Syndicate members, corrupt Stea Government agents, angels or demons, but none of them caused them as much suffering as the titular character.

Who Is He and What Has He Done?

He's none other than... Satan himself, a. k. a. Lucifer, the number 1 demon of the Dark Kabbalah (or Reverse Kabbalah, depending of your traduction) and the most powerful of all. He's more or less the Big Bad of the manga, or at least the closest thing to one. Oh, and he also happens to be the Superpowered Evil Side of the story's main protagonist Jio Freed.

Now, to be totally honest, his backstory is rather complicated, even I am not sure to have fully understood the entirety of it (anyway, even if that was the case I don't think it'll affect his status as a CM). I'm going to try to explain it in the clearest way I can.

A long time ago, Lucifer was born on a world called Eden. Obsessed with power, he became one of the 72 scientists who joined Solomon, an organisation whose objective was to harness the universe's energy in order to obtain ultimate power (what I understood is that he was the one who created the organization, but it's not very clear). Using the very powerful starship Shin, Solomon created the Light Kabbalah and the Dark Kabbalah, which can both collect 10 different kinds of energy in the form of informations. Over time, the twenty groups of informations accumulated so much energy that they evolved into ten angels (for the Light Kabbalah) and ten demons (for the Dark Kabbalah) (or maybe it was twenty scientists who merged with the informations to become angels and demons, I admit I didn't really understand this part).
Eventually, the two Kabbalah caused the destruction of planet Eden (by absorbing it, I think) and the death of all its inhabitants (except Solomon's scientists who survived by using Shin), which is something Lucifer has no problem with, as he considers that the weaker beings' only purpose is to be consumed by the strongest.

Of course, Lucifer wanted all the power for himself, so he decided to become the demon number 1 of the Dark Kabbalah, namely Satan, since it's the one which collected the most information and therefore the most powerful. To do that, he sacrificed 666 creatures by absorbing all its energy through them (if I understood correctly). Unfortunately, once he consumed all the energy, he lost his body and became an energy being. He then tried to steal the bodies of the other scientists, but he absorbed them too instead. However, two scientists named Adam and Eve expected him to do this, so just in case they created "Freedom", another program different from the Kabbalah that collected information connected to creatures from Earth. When Lucifer tried to break into it, "Freedom" sealed his consciousness in the body of a human child (Jio Freed).

Apparently, Shin travelled to countless worlds, and each time it absorbed the planets and their informations (I'm not sure if it started doing that before or after Lucifer became Satan, though). One of them was the "Blue Planet" (which is supposed to be Earth, I guess), and the next one on which it landed after that was... the planet where the story takes place.

That part isn't very clear either, but from what I understood, survivors of the Blue Planet also went to the same planet at about the same time. Because of their arrival, the planet underwent drastic changes. Both the Kabbalah and the Blue Planet's survivors caused the near-extinction of the planet's original inhabitants, the Cyclops. The Blue Planet's survivors also created special objects known as O-Parts (by using fragments of the Kabbalah, unless I misunderstood), which all contain a certain type of energy (in other words, informations) that can only be used by them. By the way, all of this happened before dinosaurs appeared (yes, this planet also had dinosaurs, for some reasons...). With time and evolution, the Blue Planet's survivors became known as "O-Part Tacticians", or simply O.P.T.
Several civilizations appeared between the Cyclops’ extinction and present day, however each of them ended up largely destroyed as well, and if the recovered archives are to be believed, it seems like Satan was heavily involved in all of this (during the most recent case at least, a half-Cyclops half-O.P.T. named Alucard Spirit tried to use the Legendary O-Part, the two Kabbalah and Shin to Take Over the World, but Satan apparently foiled his plans and caused him to eradicate 90% of the world's population instead).

According to some rumors, Satan also met a group of a dozen O.P.T.s at some unspecified time, and whatever he did to them, it scared all of them so much that they turned crazy and killed each others with their own O-Parts.

Okay, enough talk about the ancient past, let's talk about present day (finally).

A few years before the manga's beginning, Jio Freed was a young kid living in a small village (don't ask me why he's still a kid even though Satan was apparently sealed inside him before the apparition of dinosaurs and Jio is supposed to age normally, I have absolutely no idea). He had no friends and no one to take care of him, so he lived a pretty crappy life. Worst, Satan occasionally took control of his body from time to time and caused all kind of misfortunes to the village's inhabitants. Because of this, everyone rejected him and the other kids were constantly bullying him, sometimes in rather brutal ways (BTW, Jio didn't knew about Satan's existence so he had no idea why everybody hated him). Satan was totally fine with that, as he knew it will cause Jio to hate the rest of the world, and he can become more powerful by feeding on his host's hatred.
At one point, Jio met an adorable kitten, which was probably the first living being to show affection towards him. The young boy spent the day playing with it, in what was one of the few happy moments of his childhood. Unfortunately, Satan didn't stand it and killed the kitten in a bloody fashion, much to Jio's horror.
At some other point, Jio was mercilessly tormented by a bunch of bullies. Thankfully another kid named Jin intervened and protected Jio, as he didn't believe in the stories about him and wanted to become his friend. How did Satan react to this? He took control of Jio's body and murdered Jin's parents in front of him. After that, Jin, thinking Jio was the one who did it, gave him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown the next time he saw him. He later grew up to become a ruthless mercenary with a heart full of hatred, which is exactly what Satan was hoping for. This experience caused Jio to swear to never trust anyone again, even if that means he has to stay alone all his life. In the meantime, Satan influenced him to convince him nobody will ever care for him so he should hate the rest of the world, and that the only thing he should be interested in is money.
Some times later, Jio overheard some people saying that if they could find the Legendary O-Part, they'll be able to rule the entire world. Hearing this, Jio began to think that if he manages to do that himself, nobody will hurt him anymore and he could have all the money he wants, so he decided that from now on, the goal of his life would be to Take Over the World.

After that, Jio started travelling around the world. One day, he arrived in a small town where he met an older kid named Cross Biancina and his sister Lily, who were both quite friendly with him. However, Satan felt that Cross was none other than the host of Metatron, the angel number 1 of the Light Kabbalah, in other words the most powerful angel and the only being capable of defeating him, and that Lily was the key to awake him. Therefore, Satan decided to use his powers to create a gigantic explosion of energy that destroyed the entire town and everything within a radius of 50 km (even the mountains), leaving a crater visible from space. Lily died in the explosion, but Cross was spared as Satan wanted to instill loneliness, hatred and vengeance in his heart (and anyway, without Lily to awake Metatron he no longer poses a serious threat) so that one day he could absorb him.

Much later, Jio met a talking wolf named Zero in a desert, who became his mentor and taught him to fight. During that period, Jio found a boomerang that happens to be an O-Part and realized that he's an O.P.T. There weren’t any Satan's incidents around this time though, so let's move on to the beginning of the manga.

At the start of the manga, Jio meets Ruby Crescent, a young treasure hunter, who hires him as her bodyguard since she's targeted by an evil O.P.T. who is pretending to be Satan (he's not, obviously). When the fake Satan manages to kidnap Ruby, Jio comes to her rescue but he's killed by the guy's O-Part. However, Satan (the real one) takes control of Jio's body, heals his wounds, and beats the crap out of the impostor so brutally that the guy ends up traumatized for the rest of his life (still, he's considered lucky to be alive). Satan then notices Ruby and appears to consider killing her, thankfully Jio regains control of his body just in time.

A few days later in a forest of thorns, Jio and Ruby encounter Jin, who also turned out to be a powerful O.P.T. and still hates Jio for what happened to his parents. The two former friends duel each other and Jin eventually kills Jio with his O-Part, but once again Satan awakens. Then, Satan basically tells Jin that he's very disappointed as he thought he had potential and expected that by killing his parents, he would have become consumed by hatred and extremely powerful, but instead he doesn't seem to hate Jio as much as he should and is still as pathetic as he was when he was a kid. After gloating cruelly, Satan demonstrates the true power of hatred by burning the entire forest and finally attacks and tries to kill the helpless Jin. But against all odds, Jio fights Satan from the inside and succeeds in stopping him, though it causes him to lose consciousness. Realizing that Jio wasn't really the one who killed his parents, Jin uses his last strengths to put him in safety before falling into the fire.

This event seemed to have caused Satan to remain dormant for some time. After a while, Satan comes back when Jio is killed by an evil O.P.T. (yeah, that happens a lot) named Wise, who's a high ranking member of the Zenom Syndicate and believes himself to be a god since he’s in possession of Mekisis, an extremely powerful O-Part said to be one of Solomon's 72 angels (has this anything to do with the 72 scientists of Solomon? Maybe, but honestly I don't know).
This time, Jio has some sort of vision in which he meets Satan face-to-face for the first time of his life. After torturing Jio mentally for a while (among other things by telling him he's never been anything but a tool for him to use), Satan takes his left hand and engraves the Mark of the Beast on it, in a process that seems to hurt Jio like hell (literally). The Mark of the Beast is a part of Satan's power that allows Jio to absorb any form of energy, though he has to sacrifice some of his own vital energy in order to use it and each use carries the risk of summoning Satan. Of course, the only reason Satan gave him this power is that he will grow stronger and stronger every time Jio will use it (I don't remember if I mentioned it already, but one of the reasons he wants to become even stronger is to take full control of Jio's body).
Once he's finished explaining Jio the terms of their contract, Satan takes possession of their body and returns to reality. Given that he's Satan, the sworn enemy of the gods, when he sees Wise using Mekisis and pretending to be a god, he mauls Mekisis with his claws (note that despite being a O-Part it is very much a living being and that Wise is connected to it so he feels all the pain) with a sadistic smile on his face, then he uses one of his power, the Devil's Penalty (a gigantic laser beam), to largely destroy it. After that, Jio regains control of his body and manages to defeat (and accidentally kill) Wise by using the Mark of the Beast. Some time later, Jio and Ruby resume their journey, this time accompanied by their new friend Ball (also an O.P.T.) and their mentor Kirin (a great swordsman and secretly one of the Cyclops).

During the following volumes, Satan makes a few brief appearances from time to time, notably on the two occasions Jio (apparently voluntarily) releases him when confronted to Kujaku, one of the Zenom Syndicate's leaders who's also the host of another demon of the Kabbalah (and Kirin's brother), although both times he's quickly neutralized before harming anyone (he clearly would have been pretty happy to do so, though).
At one point during the tournament in the floating city of Rock Bird, Jio loses control due to using the Mark of the Beast too often and Satan takes this opportunity to possesses his body once again. This time, he tries to kill Ball and almost succeeds, while in their mind Satan attempts to corrupt Jio by convincing him to sacrifice his friends in order to reach the full potential of his powers. Fortunately, Jio refuses to give in and uses what's left of his mental force to regain control of himself, thus saving Ball's life in extremis.
Later, the ruler of Rock Bird whose name is Ikaros (he's also known as Beelzebub, the demon number 2 of the Kabbalah and the strongest besides Satan) kidnaps Ruby in order to use her to control Satan. When Jio and his friends come to her rescue, a battle ensues and Jio ends up turning into Satan. After taking his sweet time terrorizing and torturing Ikaros, Satan starts wreaking havoc in the building, without any regard about the fact that Jio's friends almost died in the process. Then, he goes after Ruby to absorb her, and when Kirin tries to stop him, Satan uses his powers to violently repel him. Thankfully, Ruby's necklace (actually a powerful O-Part) gets activated, causing Jio to regain consciousness.
Shortly after, Jio defeats Ikaros for good thanks to the power of the Mark of the Beast, however this causes Satan to successfully take total control over his body. The first thing the now free Satan does is to attack Ruby, accusing her of being nothing but a hindrance to Jio as he’s destined to be alone and by becoming his friend she made him weak. And to twist the knife, he adds that she was a hindrance to her father as well, since he abandoned her when she was young (as you can imagine, this is a painful issue for her).
Suddenly, Cross Biancina (who became a high ranking member of Stea Government and is determined to kill Satan) arrives in Rock Bird and confronts Satan. Seeing him, the demon cruelly reminds him of the way he killed his sister in order to make him even more filled with hatred (remember that since the beginning, Satan's plan was to make Cross full of hatred so that one day he can absorb him and become even more powerful). However, during the ensuing fight between the two, Ruby's necklace gets activated once again, and it turns out to be the real key to awake Metatron (it's a long story...). As a result, Cross becomes a true angel, thus losing all the hatred in his heart, and he manages to overpower and severely injure Satan.
To become more powerful and heal his wounds, Satan tries to absorb Ruby's soul, and she lets him do it as she thinks that Jio is still present within Satan's mind and that if she gets absorbed inside him she’ll be able to find Jio and help him regain possession of his body. After that, Satan fully recovers and resumes his fight against Metatron, but this time he decides to use the same power he used in the past to destroy Cross's town and kill his sister, in order to remind him of bad memories. Fortunately, with Ruby's help Jio succeeds in retaking control of his body and stops Satan before he could destroy the city. Ruby's soul still remains confined within Jio's mind where she's preventing Satan to come back, while her body is taken away by Stea Government's agents.

4 years later, Jio and his friends storm the Stea Government's HQ to retrieve Ruby's body. After destroying almost everything on their path, they finally find her body and Jio tries to return her soul into it. However, Satan was waiting for this moment and immediately takes the opportunity to possess Jio's body once again, while gloating to him that he's powerless and cannot stop him. Then, Satan seems ready to attack all of his companions, but Jio basically replies that having friends made him stronger, and he manages to regain control of his body.

In the last volume, Amaterasu Miko, the leader of the Stea Government and one of the manga's primary antagonists, acquires the Legendary O-Part and tries to use the Kabbalah and Shin to initiate Armageddon, but Jio manages to vanquish her. However, right after her defeat, Satan takes over Jio's body and initiates a complete Armageddon himself.
In their mind, Jio and Satan have a conversation in which Satan reveals his origins, as well as the fact that because of Adam and Eve's program, Jio is the only one who can fully control Shin. Therefore, Satan begins to slowly absorb Jio for good in order to take possession of their body permanently and thus use Shin to consume the energy of the entire planet and its inhabitants to become all-powerful. After that, he could travel to another planet and become its supreme ruler.
In addition, Satan uses Shin's power to communicate with all living beings in the world and corrupt them all into thinking that they cannot really trust anyone so they should hate the rest of the world, which works so effectively that some animals (and possibly some humans as well) murder their own offsprings after listening to him. By absorbing all their hatred, Satan becomes more and more powerful and almost completely subdues Jio, who's trying his best to resist.
But unexpectedly, Jio remembers all the friends he made in his life and uses The Power of Friendship to overpower Satan. Then, he also uses Shin's power to communicate with everyone in the world and convince them they should all love each other (which apparently means he manages to Take Over the World, in a way...). This causes Satan to lose to Jio and to end up as the one being absorbed. Before disappearing forever, Satan realizes that, maybe, this was the true ultimate power he has always looked for all his life.
The Armageddon didn't stop though, so Jio has to take control of Shin and relocates it to an uninhabited planet, where he's stranded with the other demons' and angels' hosts and separated from most of his friends indefinitely.

Recap

I'm aware that my presentation is quite lengthy (in my defense, there are 19 volumes and Satan is a central character...), so if you don't have the time (or the patience) to read all of it, here's a shorter recap of Satan's primary crimes:
  • He's largely responsible for the destruction of several planets, including his own.
  • He sacrificed numerous living beings in order to become the most powerful demon.
  • He absorbed the bodies of all of his associates.
  • He's involved in the extinction of a large number of civilizations, notably when he caused Alucard Spirit to wipe off most of the world's living beings.
  • He traumatized dozens of people to such an extent that they committed suicide.
  • He ruined the lives of several people in order to feed on their hatred (and also because he really enjoys doing that), notably:
    • He did everything to ensure that Jio Freed (his human host) was detested, rejected and bullied by everyone he met, and convinced him to hate the rest of the world.
    • He killed Jin's parents in front of him, causing him to turn from a sweet kid to a cold-blooded killer for hire.
    • He murdered Cross's sister Lily, and to do that he destroyed an entire town for no specific reason (except maybe to traumatize him even more).
  • He killed a kitten.
  • In present day, he tries to kill or at least brutally beats anyone on sight whenever he awakens (granted, sometimes they actually deserve it, but he still does it just for kicks and does exactly the same to innocent people, including his host's friends).
  • He burned the forest of thorns (considering there is a Cool Old Guy who spent part of his life taking care of this forest, this is a kind of big deal) and attempted to kill Jin for no other reason than being weaker than and not as filled with hatred as he expected.
  • He tried to absorb Ruby's soul (and eventually succeeded).
  • He attempted to destroy the entire city of Rock Bird in order to get rid of Metatron (the city was already in ruins because of Beelzebub, but still...).
  • He tried to absorb Jio and take full control of their body in order to use Shin to initiate Armageddon and consume the energy of all the world's living beings to become more powerful. Then, he was planning to use his new powers to take over another planet.
  • He managed to convince almost everyone in the world to hate each other, resulting in some animals (and maybe some humans) to kill their own offsprings.

Freudian Excuse?

Absolutely nothing. Unlike many versions of Satan, this one doesn't even have the excuse of being Made of Evil, since he used to be a normal guy (well, aside from being an alien of course... but he clearly wasn't a member of an Always Chaotic Evil race, considering Adam and Eve seem to have been good people) and voluntarily turned himself into a demon because of his lust for power.

Mitigating Factors?

Well, it should be noted that, unlike most CM (heck, most villains in general), his goal is not to kill the hero, in fact he actually helps him quite often and even saved his life more than once… However, he only does so because they share the same body and because he needs him to stay alive so he could absorb his energy and one day use him to control Shin.
It’s very clear Satan doesn’t really care for Jio and only sees him as a tool at best, the only things he truly cares about are himself and power. The moment he didn't need him anymore, he tried to get rid of Jio definitively, without the slightest hint of remorse.

Redeeming Qualities?

I really tried, but I can't think of anything.
Satan occasionally acts (very, very) relatively "friendly" towards Jio, even complimenting him when he becomes stronger, but it's just for the purpose of corrupting him. And his reason for doing so is that the more Jio feels hatred, the more powerful Satan can become.
He sometimes spares the life of people he easily could have kill, but only when it serves his plans (like if he's hoping their hatred will grow over time so he could become even more powerful by absorbing them later) or if it amuses him to let them live with some kind of trauma.
So no, there is nothing that makes him in any way sympathetic or likable, not in the slightest degree.

Seriousness

Just in case you weren't sure, I can confirm the character and his crimes are portrayed 200% seriously at all time. The manga has a bit of humor, but Satan is never played for laugh.

Onscreen Villainy?

Not an issue, the vast majority of his crimes is visible to the readers, except for a few from his backstory (such as when he caused the extinction of some civilizations, or the deaths of a dozen O.P.T.s).

GDV?

Far from it. He has shown a fair bit of characterizations, such as being extremely sadistic and power-hungry, manipulative, selfish, greedy, prideful, smug, etc.

Heinous Standard

He's not only (more or less) the main antagonist of the manga, he's also even considered In-Universe to be the most evil being that ever existed. While the other villains are no angels (actually, some of them are... but they're far from good guys), Satan definitely dwarfs any of them in term of crimes by a long margin.
To give you an idea, Jio's third O-Part has the power to grow bigger depending on the hatred and evilness within the heart of his opponents. When he uses it on most villains, including other demons, it simply grows big. But when he used it on Satan, it grows bigger and bigger without seeming to stop, meaning the guy's so bad there is no limit to his villainy.

Verdict

If you ask me, I would say without any shadow of a doubt that he clearly qualifies. But hey, I'm not the expert here, you guys are, so I’ll leave that to you.

Does having a Villainous Friendship or caring about another character who is also evil disqualify someone from this trope?
I'm thinking about Wesker. He certainly does horrible things, I don't think the Wesker Project was enough of an excuse. Yes, he was manipulated by Spencer, and brought up to be The Social Darwinist and taught to be ruthless. But he was still in control of his actions, not Brainwashed and Crazy (as is shown by his killing Spencer). Also, the fact he had no idea about the Wesker Project for years strongly suggests they didn't torture or physically harm him, or he'd remember, so there's not much reason to feel sorry for him.
And he certainly fits the "no remorse or regret". He's irredeemable because he'd never even consider the idea of his actions being wrong.
My question is about the "no loved ones" part. He seems to have been genuinely friends with William Birkin and cared about him instead of just seeing him as a tool. Also, he appears to have been quite close to Alex: she implies they were Like Brother and Sister and I doubt Alex would care about someone who didn't care about her.
He fits all the other criteria and is certainly extremely evil, but does Even Evil Has Loved Ones disqualify him when these loved ones were also evil?

I can't speak to this specific instance, but usually things like Villainous Friendship are done on a case-by-case basis.

I'm thinking a yes on Satan.

Yes to Satan. And welcome!

Wesker? The issue with him is he’s a manipulative sociopath and he never mourns Birkin. It’s possible they were ‘friends’ in the sense of two bad people who enjoy one another’s company and advancing their goals but there’s not enough to call it redeeming. Yes, you can be cut for loving someone evil but there’s not enough here to call it genuine love or even true friendship any more than Amon Goeth and Schindler

Also what a pleasantly ironic page number and title.

So it seems the votes for Looker are unanimously in favour (I haven't counted the exact number, but I know it's more than five), so I'm drafting a write-up. However, it is actually proving somewhat challenging. Again, the relative lack of information on various wikis is making it hard for me to summarize her in a succinct but also horrifying manner as this trope requires. This is what I've got so far, and if anyone has any feedback, that would be much appreciated. The fact that this is my own very first write-up is also probably making it more challenging too, hehe.

The Looker is a metahuman who lords over South Freeland, and an Arc Villain in season 2. Having been exposed to the ASA vaccine 30 years prior, she developed the powers to emanate a mysterious metallic substance known as the Element, which she uses to enslave the white population of South Freeland to join her Hive Mind as Sange. Despite her self-serving belief that she "saved" the town from a drug epidemic, one of her slaves counters that her assimilation is far worse than the drugs; she counters by cruelly murdering him. With the town under her control, the black population—the Perdi—is forced to hide out in the woods, lest the Sange lynch them and hang them from trees. When Anaya, a Perdi, has twin babies with Deacon, a Sange, Looker stops at nothing to capture these babies to be part of her control. Cruel, racist, and self-centred, Looker desired to maintain total dominance over South Freeland, by the most violent means imaginable.

Alright, I have two candidates from two books that I had to read in my 12th grade AP Literature class last year.

First one is from Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

What is the work?

Tess of the D'Urbervilles is an 18 century novel critiquing the sexism and double standards of Victorian England. It centers around Tess Durbeyfield, a peasant girl whose family discovers that they have noble lineage since their last name is a corruption of "d'Urberville". Everything goes downhill for Tess from there. A major catalyst for that is this guy.

Who is Alec d'Urberville?

Alec d'Urberville is not actually a d'Urberville, but a Nouveau Riche whose family adopted the name. Tess is sent by her family to work for Alec's mother, and Alec immediately takes an interest...

What does he do?

As soon he meets her, Alec starts to lust after the teenage Tess and starts trying to force himself upon her. For the most part, Tess succeeds in rebuking his advances. However, when Tess almost gets into a fight with Car Darch, once a favorite of Alec's, Alec comes to her rescue. He takes them both to the woods where they get lost. Tess eventually falls asleep, so Alec seizes his chance and rapes her. Tess is not only traumatized, she gives birth to a baby that lives only a few weeks.

Years later, Tess marries Angel Clair. However, Angel finds out about the rape and ditches Tess to go to Brazil, no longer considering Tess pure, despite himself not being a virgin either. Tess soon comes across Alec, who has now apparently given up on his wicked ways and become a Methodist preacher. Alec blames Tess for the rape, and immediately renounces his career as a preacher and starts trying to prey on her again.

Alec starts trying to emotionally manipulate Tess into becoming his mistress by claiming that Angel will never come back for her, which Tess constantly rebukes. However, as Tess looses her father and then her home, with her family eventually being left destitute. The only option Tess has now is to become Alec's mistress.

Angel returns remorseful for abandoning Tess and tracks her down to seek forgiveness. However, Tess has already crossed the Despair Event Horizon and trapped as Alec's mistress. Realizing that Alec has completely ruined her last chance at a happy life, Tess stabs and kills him to run off with Angel.

Heinous Standard?

He sets it. Now Tess goes through a whole lot of shit throughout the book, mostly due to bad luck. However, Alec is the character that does the most harm to her. He rapes Tess and then emotionally preys on her to get more sex. That's pretty fucked up. However, I'm not sure if it is baseline or not.

Redeeming Qualities?

Alec briefly seems to have undergone a Heel–Faith Turn, but throws it down the toilet almost immediately. So no.

Other mitigating factors?

Please do not say that he's just a product of his time period, because the book itself portrays his actions in a very negative light. What he did to Tess is regarded in the story as deplorable, and his death is very much well-deserved.

Verdict?

What do you guys think?

I'm still not sure about the Villainous Firendship. I admit we never see Wesker mourn Will's death but the only thing I could find on his reaction was Wesker's Report where obviously he was being quite official. I saw on this wiki "Birkin's death at the hands of Umbrella agents seems to have genuinely made Wesker very cross, something rare for a man infamous for using and throwing people away." However, I couldn't actually find evidence for him being angry, which surprised me a bit. Wesker does describe Birkin as "a genius without peer", and in Resident Evil Zero says "our careers will be over" which could suggest caring about him to some extent, but it's pretty ambiguous. The bigger question is Alex. Alex really did mourn her "brother"'s death, and she doesn't seem deluded enough to care that much about him if he didn't care about her (she's not Excella). // I can accept there's not much detail on Birkin, but I'm wondering what people think about Alex.
