Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Next up? From Zyuohger, the Sentai series, namely the movie episode: Exciting Circus Panic. I give you the big bad, Domidol.

Who is Damidol?

The ringmaster of the sinister Space Circus Troupe, who intends to make the universe his circus stage...the problem is? he needs to get rid of 'unnecessary' planets in the way, who causes havoc by rearranging stars into rings of fire and annihilates worlds, Domidoll arrives on earth intending to wipe it out, with his Zyuman Circus...it's revealed that Domidoll there? Takes people of power and potential and enslaves them in his circus, especially kids. Kidnapping a large group of children, Domidoll intends on using their tears and cries to convert into energy...whereupon, as he shows in his fantasy, he begins bombing earth's cities and completely annihilating every living thing there so he can create new real estate for parts of his space circus, particularly the trapeze. Equally sadistic to his own crew, who hate and fear him, one child Zyuman named Perla? He shows himself happily willing to torture and murder even the children in his group, torturing Perla and trying to throttle her, while intending on enslaving or doing away with the kids after he's done.

Intending on bombing the hell out of Japan, the Zyuohgers manage to get there in time before Domidoll can attack, to save the kids there. In the ensuing attack, they save Perla and Domidoll's own men from his temper tantrum, rescuing all the kids and forcing the ringmaster to fight them in his own mech, where they save the earth by destroying him for good.

Heinousness?

Pretty bad with his "use the sorrow of kids" plot with no compunction at murdering/torturing them if they get out of line, mass destruction of worlds, with the pattern shown by what he tries to do o earth? For a 20 minute episode, he's pretty awful here.

Mitigating Qualities?

And that's a no, unless you count how out there his plans are, but sentai.

Conclusion?

I'd give another yea.

[tup] Domidol. He may not be Ginis, but that's certainly a UNIQUE enough crime. Sentai page AND film page, or just Sentai page?

Dang, I love how the last three posts spelled it differently [lol]

FWIW, Rangerwiki has it as Domidoll; wikipedia as Domidol.

Just Sentai page, I'd say. Now, as I'm on a roll...from Death Race 3, a prequel to the first film? Death Race is a film series that started as a satire about...well, convicts are sent into the Death Race, to drive with collateral damage and attempted murder being part of the race, with someone who wins a certain number of times? They earn their freedom. The most popular is the masked racer Frankenstein (who turns out to be a Legacy Character)...and the villain of the third? a Bastard British Billionaire named Niles York.

Who is York?

A man who intends on taking the Death Race and all its violence and mayhem global, York buys the rights to Death race from its owner, and sets up a nee race, even blowing up a racer to show escape is impossible and encouraging violence and collateral damage....focusing in Frankenstein, or Lucas, Yorkl has no intention of letting him go (ever), and says if he gets any funny ideas, York will have Lucas's girlfriend tortured and murdered.

As the races proceed, York is shown to observe and manage it, absolutely encouraging as much violence and bloodshed as possible as it keeps the viewers coming in...then york reveals he intends to sabotage Lucas even more to keep him escaping and showcases absolutely zero compunctins with collateral damage, even being willing to launch missiles at civilians targets, which he does so, only to have them diverted. York tries again to launch, heedless of perhaps even wiping out a whole village. Now, due to betraying his right hand woman Satana and threatening her, Satanas ends up assisting Lucas and leaves York trapped.

Lucas ends up storming in to york's fortress, killing his men and crashing his car into York, which supposedly kills York and scars Lucas beyond recognition. In reality? This allows Lucas to fake his and his girlfriend Katrina's deaths....while 'Frankenstein' is left ranting insanely...turns out the way to eliminate York? York is supposedly dead...but is in truth, the scarred new Frankenstein left to assume his place in the Death Race where he is eventually killed in the first film by Machine Gun Joe.

Heinousness?

Pretty bad, threatened torture, murder, trying to take the race global and using missiles on civilian targets? I'd say he's bad enough.

Mitigating Qualities?

Not a damn one.

Conclusion?

And I'd call York a keeper.

Yes to Lighty’s villains and Vandal... hell, even with the Historical Rap Sheet stuff not being shown, I’d argue the assault we DO see counts for pattern establishment. Damn nasty for a 40-page comic villain.

The main Complete Monster page had this Visual Pun approved by the Image Suggestion thread, but SeptimusHeap thinks it should be brought up here before adding it:

Unlike the product in this image, you wouldn't want to pick any of these villains up from a convenience store under any circumstances.

[tup] Lighty's trio

I never do EPs on a Saturdays, but I've been watching a shit ton of crazy Japanese action movies I rented from Vulcan Video, so I decided 'why not?'. I got plenty of candidates to cover over the weeks, so let's start this off with a bang.

What Is the Work?

Legend of the Shadowy Ninja: The Ninja Dragon is a film from 1990 that serves as the only movie directed by manga legend Go Nagai.

Shinobu is the last of the Nindo clan, serving as the Yakuza head’s daughter. In a dream, she is given a bell by a mystical ninja named Ryu, which when rang, will summon him and his ninjas to protect her. Shinobu’s then given a chauffeur named Yu by her father to not only drive her to school, but to also protect her in case people come after her. Oh, and yes, people do come after her, but not just any people: aliens. Much bloody violence ensues.

Who Is he?

Go Ranjuji is at first a regular Yakuza boss who turns out to be a vicious alien out to conquer the world.

What has he done?

Seeking Shinobu Nindo because of her connections to the Nindo clan bloodline, he has his henchman and woman murder anybody who gets in their way. First shown at a large Yakuza boss meeting, Ranjuji has his two cohorts arrive with a platter containing the head and limbs of a Yakuza leader. Ranjuji then has his cohorts kill everyone at the meeting with a smile on his face. When he sees one survivor cowering in fear, he walks over to the guy, tears his face off, and licks the exposed flesh (ew). One of the people who died was Shinobu’s father, making her the final surviving member of the Nindo clan.

Through a series of events, Shinobu is kidnapped by Ranjuji’s henchwoman and brought to his hideout. There, Ranjuji is surrounded by loads of women in masks who serve as I guess his sex slaves; all they do is stand around naked like mannequins and do nothing. Now the reason why Ranjuji needs Shinobu is because he wants to make her his bride; where he will impregnate her with thousands of eggs, and will use these alien babies of his to conquer the entire world. However, he notices that Ryu/Yu has arrived with his posse of ninjas, but Ranjuji, drinking a glass of blood, sends out his alien ninjas to stop them. Ranjuji tries to have a sniper kill Ryu when he arrives at his room, but he fails, so Ranjuji just escapes with Shinobu in hand. Ryu finds Shinobu all tied up, but Ranjuji attacks him, later transforming into a creature that looks like Ivan Ooze. He then transforms into a giant turd-looking creature before getting his head immediately chopped off by Ryu. THEN, he grows a buzzard/claw head that is finally killed when Ryu just chokes the decapitated head to death (don’t ask).

Redeeming Qualities?

None.

Heinousness?

It’s his ultimate plan that causes everything to happen. While his cohorts are a nasty duo, they don’t have any personality beyond being stoic.

Conclusion

I think he’s an easy keep.

Yes to York (first CM for Dougray Scott?)...my quesrion is, does this mean Hennnessey's gone, since it wasn't her who actually invented the Death Race, or is killing Jansen's family enough to keep her a CM?
