Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[tup] Mirror Queen. And she had to BRAINWASH someone into being her lovestruck slave? She's played by (in her first CM role I believe) Monica Bellucci! How much brainwashing was required? [lol]

The general incidentally was played by Jonathan Pryce, who played Elliot Carver.

[tup] to Kiara and the Mirror Queen.

By the way, has anyone examined Adolf Hitler from Hitler: The Rise of Evil yet? If not, I'd like to watch it and see if he might qualify as a CM.

Yes to the Mirror Queen.

And a [tup][tup][tup][tup] to Kiara. What she had done with this innocent girl by raping her really seals the deal for me! As we never see a person who has a dignity to rape our favorite flat wefu the mother earth except Kiara.

I'm curious what those Redeeming qualities were? The only Pet the Dog moment listed notes it's immediately Averted

Irnoic considering he may be one of the most Obviously Evil depictions of Hitler put to film.

Out of curiosty. Does Robert Carlyle have a cm role. I only know him as Mr. Gold and Renard who are definitly not this trope.

I also vaguely recall Carlyle's Hitler being a near miss CM. I actually looked at that film during History lessons - with the teacher explaining some of that stuff was made up but it got us to pay attention to some of the big events leading to Nazi Germany.

Well, it's that time. A fortnight after the end of season 2 of The Lion Guard. I should probably explain some things.

In this series, we follow Kion, Simba and Nala's son. The series is set between the first two movies. Kion is the leader of the Lion Guard, the Pridelands defense team consisting of 5 animals, the leader, who is the second born of the family line, the strongest, the bravest, the fastest, and the keenest of sight. It is stated in the pilot that the previous Lion Guard was lead by Scar. He and four other lions were tasked with protecting the Pridelands. When Scar became envious of Mufassa's position as the next king, he tried to convince his team to help him overthrow Mufassa. The team refused, so Scar killed them with the Roar of the Elders, a mystic roar that the leader of the Lion Guard possesses, where all the lions of the past roar with them to create a powerful roar that can destroy things. Because he used the Roar for evil, Scar lost it forever.

In season 2, Scars spirit is summoned by the animals of the outlands. He plots to have them takeover the Pridelands. In the episode Swept Away, Scar has his outland army try to kill Beshte the hippo after he ends up in the outlands, as he is the strongest of the Lion Guard, and his loss would weaken it. In Rescue in the Outlands, he orders his army to try and kill Jasiri, the friendly hyena who is allies with Kion. In The Bite of Kenge, he orders Janja and his hyena clan to steal watermelons meant for the elephants to help them through the dry season, so that they will die of thirst and the circle of life will be disrupted. In The Morning Report, he orders his army to kidnap Zazu and interrogate him. In Divide And Conquer, he orders his army to kill Rafiki. In The Scorpian's Sting, he orders a scorpion named Sumu to sting Simba and poison him, knowing that the only cure is volcanic ash. He finally reveals himself when the Lion Guard comes to his volcano lair looking for the ash. He orders his army to kill the Lion Guard and Rafiki's new apprentice, Makini, though they get the ash and escape. In Undercover Kinyonga, he tells his army to try and cut off the river so that the Pridelanders will die of thirst. In The Hyena Resistance, he orders his army to once again try and get rid of Jasiri, this time he wants her entire clan killed too, though this again fails. In The Fall of Mizimu Grove, Scar, having had his vultures start lighting fires over the Pridelands, has them do so while having the rest of his army attack Mizimu Grove. He manages to take over Mizimu Grove and appears before Simba and the Pridelanders for the first time since his summoning, taunting Simba and stating that he will take over the Pridelands. In Fire From the Sky, he continues to have his vulture minions drop flaming sticks into the Pridelands in an attempt to burn everything down and take over.

Now, the thing is, while Scar has done more evil deeds, the plot with him is still going. By the end of the second season, he is still around. The plot with him will continue into the next season, so I don't know if we should add anything to his entry just yet.

[tup] to the Lovecraftian Fighting Fantasy villains, Jeog, Kiara, and the Mirror Queen.

[up][up][up]Honestly, we could probably just expand Scar's entry now. Some of those deeds are definitely worth mentioning, and Scar is already listed as a CM, so there's no harm in expanding his entry.
