During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Speaking of Fighting Fantasy, Lighty, have you played the PC/IOS adaptation of the Sorcery! gamebook? The Archmage of Mampang in the video game is presented far worse than he was in the books as he has many additional crimes, an actual expanded backstory and personality, and is no longer possessed by a demon but doing it of his own free will.
If you haven't, I would definitely advise checking it out. It's by far the best Fighting Fantasy video game adaption, but it's been so long since I've played I can't recall the finer details.
Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.@ Lightysnake, yeah sometimes the evilest thing about Fighting Fantasy villains is how they are SNK Boss types, with insane skill and stamina stats and cheap attacks that can drain your stamina. I think there is one FF villain who is infamously hard, you only have a 6% chance of beating him.
Interesting question, what is the most surprising CM you have found in media aimed at kids? As I said, I was surprised there was a CYOA book that dealt with human trafficking.
Speaking of Final Fantasy... Anyone has no issues if I will check Warframe game in the future. I know its a huge MMORPG but if anyone had take dibs on it first... I wont stop them. Been wanting to binge on some Video Game C Ms btw before the anime ones can get stale
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Is Fighting Fantasy based on pure luck and dice rolls, or is there some skill involved?
Also, most surprising: Not my candidate, but I'm still amused that freaking Rainbow Brite has a CM.
Also, a reminder that Supernatural and Hellboy are tentatively final. If anyone can up-quality the Hellboy image, I'll use that one.

Are Axlerod and Zundapp going up together or separately?
Talk about this weekend on more than one count being history in the making: Endgame, GoT, two or three villains from Pixar movies being approve and one of them formerly on the Never Again List!

Just registered for my Fall 2019 classes, so I want to celebrate with an EP. I've been in a Dark Horse mood lately, so here's a comic series from them.
What Is the Work?
Zombie World: Champion of Worms and Zombie World: Tree of Death are two comics published by Dark Horse Comics. The former, a one-shot, was written by Mike Mignola and Chris Robertson, while the sequel was written by Pat Mills. The differences between the two works are staggeringly obvious, but one step at a time.
Both works follow Rebecca Dean, a New England resident who gets involved in a supernatural sorcerer who wants to plunge the world into chaos and destruction with his army of the undead. She ends up meeting a gang of British researchers led by Major Damson who know everything there is to know about the sorcerer and try to stop him, but is it enough to actually defeat him? Short answer: no.
I’ve got two possible candidates from the series, so let’s get started with the most obvious keeper.
Who Is he?
Azzul Gotha, the self-declared “Champion of Worms,” is an evil necromancer who serves as the ultimate main villain of the series.
What has he done?
A thief and poisoner, Azzul in his pastime was also a worshipper of the evil baby-eating worm gods. Originally a member of the Old Hyperborean Necromancers, he was so hated by his members for worshipping the worm gods that he was locked away forever in a sarcophagus sealed with a magic talisman; he wasn’t killed because doing so would bring about a zombie apocalypse. Cur to present day, Azzul’s coffin is placed inside a museum. Azzul uses his powers to manipulate a security guard to remove the talisman by making him think it was gold. Now released, Azzul sets out to end all human life, capturing Rebecca and planning to make her his bride so that the two can rule over an empire of death. To regain his power after so many years of inactivity, Azzul decides to use Rebecca’s father for a blood sacrifice.
But when he hears Damson and his squad are out to stop him, Azzul feeds Rebecca’s father a magic seed that transforms him into a giant monster to serve as a distraction. With Rebecca still in his clutches, he bites her arm in order to give him more energy, but he ends up disappearing when he’s caught in a fire fight with Malka Ravenstein, leaving Rebecca behind. He heads to the graveyard, where he performs a blood ritual that would allow him to use his own death to unleash the apocalypse onto mankind. Some soldiers enter the graveyard, see him chewing on a severed arm, and open fire. Azzul dies, and his plan is achieved: fart gas arise from graves and the zombies come alive. Giant worms start invading the earth and the whole world is run afoul by the undead, and all Azzul (who is missing his legs for some reason) tries to take Rebecca to be his bride again, but he’s stopped by Damson, who’s new mystical hand tattoo causes Azzul to retreat.
Returning in Tree of Death, we see that the world has now been completely fucked by the zombies: one image in the first issue is literally a massive pile of corpses and zombies eating babies while Azzul looks upon them. Awakened by the evil Alice, Azzul is revealed to have created the Tree of Death, which would allow the evil gods known as the Qlipoth, to be summoned to Earth, where they will wreak havoc, which is weird because the earth’s already fucked as is, but oh well. Azzul sets his sights on London, where he has giant worms tunnel holes in the subway system in order to activate the tree’s powers. Working with Alice, he carves summonings onto captured humans that allow some of his nasty demon allies to appear and cause destruction among the remaining humans. Sensing that Rebecca’s coming his way, he has Alice bring her to him, where he creates an apparition of her to follow Major Damson in order to learn their plans to stop him, keeping the real Rebecca to yet again make her his bride, but only because doing so would grant her the ability to unlock the Tree’s power and summon the Qlipoth. His plans are foiled when he’s invaded by Damson, Eugene, and Killcrop—the guy who killed him in the past—with Killcrop easily ripping and tearing Azzul apart as he carves a symbol onto his chest that kills him… or so he thinks. Turns out, Azzul still lives, kills Alice, and plans to… do evil, I guess.
The series stops there. No follow up, no plans for a continuation, nothing.
Redeeming Qualities?
You kidding me?
Heinousness?
Easily sets it. While the Qlipoth are a nasty bunch, they're so underdeveloped and they don't have a whole lot of screentime to really stand out.
Conclusion
I think he’s a keep.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Wait, I thought Azzul's death brought about the Zombie Apocalypse. If he was just missing his legs but still alive, wouldn't there be no Zombie Apocalypse?
Yes either way.

Also. Don't forget Grand Master Rose
