Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[tup] Hobbes

Since today is Easter (or Passover for those who don't celebrate Easter), I’ll be covering a franchise well known for its themes of resurrection. Particularly one involving zombies.

What Is the Work?

Biohazard 2 is a manhua adaptation of the second Resident Evil game, and is quite honestly the most batshit insane thing to ever come out of the franchise. And yes, I’m dead serious. What you’re about to read contains cyborgs, time travel, interdimensional dinosaurs, and plot elements that wouldn’t be out of place in even the most nonsensical of RE crack fics. While the plot at first appears to be a retelling of RE2, it quickly shifts into WTF mode quickly. And yes, everything you’re about to read was approved by Capcom.

Now while the manhua itself hasn't been translated into English, the Resident Evil wiki has gladly given detailed recaps of all the volumes, complete with occasional screencaps of certain panels, so I’ll be using those as the basis. Plus, we all know Resident Evil doesn’t believe in subtlety when it comes to its villains. I’ll be covering 2 villains from the story, one an OC, the other a familiar face.

Who Is he?

The man known only as “God” is the president of Umbrella who seeks world destruction, having created the G-virus as a way to accomplish his plans.

What has he done?

The story begins with God unleashing the virus upon Raccoon City and turning everyone there into zombies. With Chris Redfield getting close to him and sending STARS forces after him, God hooks himself up to a machine and has dozens of his surrounding coworkers killed in a suicide pact. He is later revealed to have kept his brain inside a jar, and once some special forces people storm his hideout, God activates a trap that causes several zombies to arise and attack the troops. While they’re distracted, God’s brain latches itself onto one of the operatives, taking control of him parasitically, and escaping to a large, inhabited island.

Supposedly good business partners with the cyborg millionaire playboy Inzaghi, God has Asura (who has been forced into becoming a powerful cyborg warrior) do stuff that will allow God to take over Inzaghi and use his body as a host. With the cyborg Asura, he has him fight a cyborg to the death for fun in front of a large stadium audience, and when Asura wins and holds Inzaghi hostage, God unleashes a deadly gas upon the stadium that engulfs the audience and allows him to kidnap Asura and Inzaghi. When he’s found by Chris and his new task force, the BHST, God injects Asura with the G-Bacteria that causes him to turn into a vicious lion-like animal and has him fight off the soldiers, while God escapes with Inzaghi via his submarine. Asura is later killed while trying to fight off the bacteria, while God has Umbrella scientists implant his brain into Inzaghi’s muscular body; they are immediately interrupted by a Licker… but that doesn’t matter, as God managed to possess Inzaghi’s body, and even renamed himself “Regeneration” (though that name doesn’t last long at all).

Slamming BHST in a live interview, he later arrives at an island and kills some people there before sending his squad, the Outstanding Ten, to take care of Chris and the BHST soldiers trying to stop him (God must have watched way too many Shaw Brothers movies). Leon later reads a prophecy that will involve God covering the Earth with black air, killing everybody on the plant. Speaking of Leon, in the past God had brainwashed his father into becoming the Hardened War General, an assassin who unleashes several zombies onto the islands, and even has him inject Leon with the G virus, which ends up giving him Super Saiyan-esque powers. With BHST losing their fight with God and his men, God has them taken prisoner and reveals to them that he has cloned the deceased Ada Wong to serve as his bride. Wanting to inflict terror in everyone there, he puts his hand on Chris’ face and disintegrates him in front of everybody, but then undoes the damage once he releases his grip.

Leon bursts into the prison and starts firing Ki attacks at everyone, but right before he’s about to kill his father, God has the reawakened Ada shoot Leon, but when Leon catches the bullet with his powers, God has Ada shoot herself. God, getting into a fight with Leon, stops Ada from committing suicide, but instead chooses to fight Leon in the air outside of the prison. So God and Leon have a big brawl in the island’s city, where God kills plenty of innocents who either annoy him or are in his way, and even blows up several cars while hunting him down. So now fighting Leon on a giant machine he made that releases the G-virus, their fighting on it causes it to activate and fire rays of energy onto the city, where countless people are infected by the virus. During all of this, God sends several soldiers of his to infect the entire island with the virus, including airports and the water supply. During the fight God ends up absorbing Leon into himself, and is now taking control of him as his final form. We don’t find this out until later on in the story’s climax, where nuclear missiles have already been flying over the artificial island; God wants to use these missiles to kickstart his dream of a worldwide apocalypse, and has become the ultimate life form in order to deal with the missiles.

Getting his ass kicked by the three magical Patron Saints, God splits into two forms: a shirtless evil Leon that God is controlling, and another one whose personality remains intact. Right before he’s about to complete the prophecy and kill Ada and someone named Dehne, an adult Sherry arrives and uses her special G-mutant powers to fight him. He ends up killing Dehne, who confesses her love to Leon in her final breath. Using the power of grief, Leon channels his Ki powers and punches God, but both his and God’s punches collide, sending out a shockwave. Fearing that Leon’s become just as powerful as him, God runs away and disappears into a light beam from the sky, which is supposed to be Heaven. Leon and Ada follow in pursuit, and every G-virus infectee decide to ascend into Heaven to wipe out all traces of the virus, which ends up saving the world. Chris, Claire, and Leon’s father celebrate as a rainbow appears behind them, and Leon and Ada’s faces smile down upon them from the sky.

The End

Redeeming Qualities?

Lol no.

Heinousness?

The story takes place in an alternate continuity (if it wasn’t obvious enough), and God is easily the worst person in the story.

Conclusion

Easy keep.

I'm a bit wary as to the wiki's reliability, but I'll give a yes.

[up][up] The recaps are very detailed. They give some direct translations of certain quotes, and they even include photos from the manhua that are pretty accurate to the recaps.

[up] I guess so.

Now for the second Biohazard 2 candidate.

Who Is he?

You know him, you hate him, we all love to berate him, the one, the only Brian (Irons). Like the manhua’s source material, Brian is depicted as a misogynistic rapist, murderer, and human taxidermist, but this time he has a few additional crimes to his name.

What has he done?

As a young man, Brian would capture rabbits and dissect them for fun. In college, he got away with two accusations of rape because he was a rich kid. Now Commissioner of the Raccoon City Police Department, Brian, fully aware of Umbrella’s dangerous experiments, helped cover up the Spencer Mansion incident by shutting down STARS. When Umbrella ordered for the death of William Birkin, Brian took part in the underground laboratory massacre where multiple scientists died, personally shooting a wounded William in the head. Entrusted with Amy Chan, the mayor’s daughter, he killed her and planned to keep her around as a trophy. Capturing Claire Redfield, he showed her his room containing organs that he kept from people he killed, while promising to add her to his collection. After capturing Claire, he has his men drag Leon away to be fed to Lickers.

Disappearing from the story for a while, he reappears in Volume 14 trying to escape from Raccoon City via train. One of the good guys, Charlie, sneaks onto the train and shoots a glass window that causes the glass shards to impale upon Brian and his henchmen’s backs. The henchmen instantly die, while Brian slowly bleeds to death.

Redeeming Qualities?

Nothing.

Heinousness?

While he’s not as heinous as “God,” Brian is still just an average human with zero superpowers assisting in Umbrella’s corruption, so he doesn’t have anywhere near the amount of resources “God” has.

Conclusion

I think he’s also a keeper.

And a yes to Irons.

With there being 4 AniManga/Manhua/Light Novel entries now, I think we can add the franchise page to those with their own pages.
