During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I agree with the consensus that Fairly Oddparents has no candidates, and is on the Never Again for a reason.
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what exactly is the difference between reserving a work and putting it on a "to-do"? Are reservations only for works that haven't released yet, and to-do lists are kind of saying like this is what I'll be proposing in the near future?
And if so, can anyone make their own to-do, so long as they run it past the thread?

Okay. I could have done it myself, but given the entry got controversial, I'd rather have someone with more experience on the trope doing it, so thanks.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...
Np.... I'll do it later on for sure
@Age Yep... What Lighty said though. To-dos are for the works that were already released.
@Newton Iirc, its negative. Feel free to bring a candidate from there. That should be your first Live Action candidate alright
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Alright, ummm....I guess I wanna try the to-do thing, so if no one minds I think I'd like to make Nurse Ratched my first item on my to-do list. I'm specifically referring to her original novel version, I'm re-reading the novel after years and I would like to give her an effortpost. I know her film version was listed years ago from using the search, and some talk of the novel version was had but it never went anywhere, so again, only if it's not stepping on any toes, I'd like to put her on my to-do, if that is ok.
So I decided to might as well make the EP, so here it is. From the thriller TV Show Harper's Island, we got Serial Killer and Big Bad John Wakefield!
Who is John Wakefield and what does he do?
John Wakefield is the legendary serial killer in Harper's Island who was reported to be dead long before the series has started. A murderer that took the lives of 6 women, including his former wife and mother of main character Abbie, he was thought to be shot by Abbie's father, Sheriff Mills. It turns out that Wakefield wasn't killed at all and is still alive now continuing his murder spree when Abbie and her friends and family has come back to the island to celebrate the wedding of Henry Dunn and Trish Wellington.
Working together with his illegitimate son Henry, both of them began to kill off the main cast. While Henry was more sneaky and subtle in his killings, Wakefield was much more personal and attack them directly. His most common method would be to approach his victim head on and take them out with a knife, or any weapon he could find at the time. He didn't care who was killing, even those who were mentally ill like Kelly and trying to kill Madison who was nothing more but a child. His worse actions has to be his tendency to commit his murders in front of the victim's love ones, including doing a death trap to Sheriff Mills in front of his daughter, and murdering Cal in front of his lover Chloe who killed herself afterwards.
By the finale, most of the cast has been killed and the only remaining survivors are Abbie, Jimmy and Sully who Henry has killed. After realizing that Henry is Wakefield's son, Henry and Wakefield tried to silence the two. After a huge fight between the two duos, Wakefield meets his end by his own son who betrays him after wanting to make Abbie his own.
Heinousness:
The one with the highest body count, with 27 victims know victims and possibly even more with all of them dying in pretty brutal and gruesome ways. He also doesn't care who his victims are, whether they were innocent bystanders or children.
Mitigating Factor:
The only possible things I can think of are his relationship with his son Henry and his lack of backstory. While we know everything about his murders and the background on those, everything else in his life is a complete mystery which was likely on purpose since the law tried to remove any traces of his existence, and Wakefield himself never had a reason to say anything about himself. His relationship with his son might be a problem, but the thing is that Wakefield only loves him for being a Serial Killer like him. He doesn't really show any genuine his love for his son, just pride that he became just as an effective serial killer as he is. It's only love for all the murders he commits.
Final Verdict:
First time I did a non-anime and non-video game EP, maybe I'll be doing more in this new realm I entered. Also, this is probably an easy
considering everything he has done. I'm surprise he was never brought up in the past.

Allow me, take my hand and never let go, promise? - GiselleAnd yes to our Names The Same killer. Admittedly I'll always consider mine infinitely more despicable for then nature of his one crime.
Wakefield, I suppose. That takes me back. I wasn't sure about his relationship with Henry, but I guess he was just shown to consider Henry as an apprentice.
The other thing is I recall his backstory being a little more fleshed out than listed here, though only as far back as his relationship with Abby's mom, and there's nothing mitigating there (despite having arguably been screwed over a bit by the sheriff). At any rate it's been a long time.
By keeling over dead, IIRC. It was pretty sudden.

There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Wakefield was just in shock, since he was so sure Henry would kill Abbie. It's not like he ever showed any genuine love to Henry, except respect for his skills and talent in being a serial killer and his accomplice.
I also plan to EP Henry in the future.
Allow me, take my hand and never let go, promise? - GiselleAye to Wakefield and yes, Scraggle's version is a lot more disgusting and nauseating compared to this one.
Also, congrats on your first non-Anime and non-Video Game candidate Newt!
