During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I personally like Lyric, and yeah his backstory was honestly the only thing keeping me from Effort posting him, which is why I asked to make sure. Black Doom, Mephilies, and Infinite, my personal favorite sonic villain, are better villains though.
I feel like Lyric probably would at least be a proper Magnificent Bastard if they bothered to flesh out his character far more and hadn't tossed his backstory aside. Felt like a waste there.
I find it ironic that the three most infamous Sonic games all have a Complete Monster in them. And all of them (minus Infinite, who is just EDGY EDGE EDGY EDGNESS BECAUSE COOL EDGY EDGE) actually seem to be written properly.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.
Mundus
On-screen. He really never does anything. Guys like Sanctus, Arkham and sid have done far worse well working with way less. Maybe one day he'll come back in a future game and get more stuff but that maybe awhile.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
You gotta wait two weeks before discussing that game.
Sonic Forces is infamous? I'd say Sonic Boom or Sonic Adventure
.
Oh, and:
- The Prodigy: Serial Killer Edward Scarka was a depraved murderer who killed many women, taking their hands as trophies. Upon the escape of his final victim, Scarka was killed by the police, but his soul possesses young boy named Miles Blume. Slowly taking Miles over, Scarka kills the family dog, completely erases Miles' soul from the body and stabs Miles' father to send him into a coma. Hunting down his one escaped victim Margaret, Scarka butchers her and plays innocent so Miles' mother Sarah will be shot by a good samaritan, ending as Scarka continues to behave as a young boy, intending to continue his killing spree where none will ever suspect him.
- Bones of Giants: Thrym was the tyrannical lord of the Frost Giants long ago. Hating Asgard beyond all reason, Thrym tortured and killed countless people in his attempt to destroy the Asgardians, eventually obliterating most of the world before being stopped. Awakened in modern day and recognizing Hellboy as containing the spirit of his archenemy Thor, Thrym devours the souls of entire towns and sets about restoring his kingdom to begin Ragnarok and wipe out the entire world to reign over what is left.

Here's my last attempt at an entry for today. If this isn't accepted or is thumped then I won't come back for a little while:
Dante's Inferno: Lucifer is the narcissistic Fallen Angel who rules over the Nine Circles of Hell. Imprisoned in the frozen Lake Cocytus in the Circle of Treachery, Lucifer takes an interest in the sinful Crusader Dante and bargains with his fiance Beatrice that if he commits infidelity that her soul would be his. After her death, Lucifer steals Beatrice's soul in order to lure Dante into Hell so that he can break the chains on his prison in order to be free so he can wage war against Heaven and God once again. Lucifer spends most of the story breaking Beatrice's pure and faithful spirit bit by bit by showing her the sins Dante has committed, with the breaking point being showing her Dante sleeping with another woman, causing her to lose faith and marry Lucifer who uses a demonic fruit to transform her into a spiteful demon. During their battle, Lucifer gloats and talks about how he is better than humanity, and how disgusted he was when God told him to bow down what he saw as an inferior race. Sadistic, cruel and utterly void of empathy and remorse for his actions, Lucifer's only concern is breaking free from his prison and ruling over the Afterlife.
It won't be thumped, but we need effortposts before entries; something like this
.
Also, I could be wrong, but I think Game!Lucifer's been discussed and doesn't count.
Dante Like Kratos back in the day could have been Complete Monster, if not for the fact that his love for Beatrice and him genuinely wanting to save her and realising how much of a monster he was saves him. He is also willing to repent.
Lucifer doesn’t do a lot or acts like an asshole to his minions but his actions are in no way good and everything he says is hypocritical at best.
But I understand that a lack of info and story is what prevents this from being proven.
