Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Snip snip hooray to the Governor!

ACW: The final writeup for Ipslore looks brilliant, and I'm happy (perhaps overly happy) to have come up with a winning candidate. There's just one change I want to propose; when mentioning that Ipslore basically forces Death into sparing him by threatening Coin indirectly, we link Offing the Offspring?

[up]Got it; I cut the Don't Fear the Reaper pothole so we don't have too many.

[up][up]Well, I don't know the work, but I cut the unnecessary content:

  • Complete Monster: The Super Nova incarnation of Desty Nova, in his introduction, betrayed the main characters and the other two clones of himself to Aga Mbadi. He then proceeds to gleefully tell Alita how LADDER is going to send down an army after the Z.O.T.T. to wipe out The Scrapyard and capture all people on Tiphares for their brains, just before destroying Alita physically and mentally by telling her her brain was replaced with a chip and deconstructing her body, causing her remains to fall down a shaft all while maniacally laughing about it and celebrating over her despair and sadness, disturbing even his other clones. When he asks if the clones would like to work together with him and they politely decline, stating that their methods have grown too different, he uses his power to kill NovaPod and would have killed Nova X if he didn't unplug communication.

And here's the AniManga stuff for Shin Megami Tensei:

Anime & Manga

  • Devil Survivor manga, by Satoru Matsuba: Beldr proves to be far worse than his game counterpart. A Bel that feeds off grief and despair, Beldr introduces himself by draining the souls of a group of innocents that the heroes previously saved. When Atsuro finds out that Beldr is seemingly invulnerable, Beldr attempts to slowly burn him alive in response. After Kazuya buys time for the others to escape, Beldr tortures him to near death, talking about the pleasure he takes in Kazuya's hopelessness. When Kazuya escapes, Beldr goes on a killing spree for the next day before going to the cemetery. Beldr then attempts to drain the souls of over 300 innocent civilians to fully revive himself, intending to escape the Yamanote circle and turn the rest of the world into an apocalypse so that everyone will feel grief.
  • Persona -trinity soul-: Keisuke Komatsubara, studying the Persona phenomenon, used his own daughter, Ayane, for painful experiments until she committed suicide. Apathetic to her death, Keisuke intends to revive her to study the links between the Sea of Souls and the human world. After Ayane's spirit caused a disaster in Ayanagi City, Keisuke poses as an altruistic doctor, convinces Ryo Kanzato to sacrifice his injured little sister to save his brother Jun, and uses the operation to experiment on Jun, intending to use him later and to get revenge on the already-deceased Kanzato for leaving his investigation. Fusing with his own Persona and changing his name to Kujou Mareya, he creates the Marebito by inserting artificial Persona inside orphans, making them dependent on drugs to survive and limiting their lives, with the intention to sacrifice them in the future. Convincing them to steal the Persona of other teenagers, in a brutal method known as the Reverse Cases for outsiders, Keisuke also creates an android to spread the Shadow Extraction Ritual in order to keep a suitable reserve of potential Persona users to attack. Lacking empathy, Keisuke saw everyone—even his own children—as tools to be used in his quest for knowledge.
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Tokyo Revelation OVA: Gagyson is a low-ranking demon contracted by Akito Kobayashi to assist in his mission to unleash President Ose in the human world, but shows no loyalty towards his human boss and sees him as his puppet. Establishing himself as Ose's faithful servant who wishes to annihilate the human race, Gagyson allows Akito to destroy an airplane to use the passengers as human sacrifices, sending a demon to assassinate his best friend, Kojiro Souma, when Akito's love for him begins to disturb their plan. After fatally injuring Kojiro, Gagyson assumes control over Akito's operation and orders his demons to beat him. Killing Saki Yagami by impaling her with a sword and using her massive amounts of Magnetite in a ritual, Gagyson successfully summons Ose to wreak havoc around Tokyo, and ultimately sacrifices his own body to make the damage even worse.

cut the Governor I guess.

Okay, so it’s been two weeks since the NCIS: Los Angeles episode “Better Angels” came out and I got a candidate to discuss, but first lets talk about the episode.

What’s The Work?

The episode revolves around the team working with the Global Criminal Tribunal when a Syrian seeking justice is brutally attacked while delivering evidence that would prove chemical weapons were used on civilians. Now the guy in question is General Joram Naser.

Who Is He? What Has He Done?

General Joram Naser is a brutal and sadistic general of the Syrian Government who has used his position of power to commit his atrocities. Among these atrocities includes deliberately using chemical weapon on civilians, killing hundreds of innocent people; among those innocent people includes women and children.

When an NCIS agent was sent to Syria to investigate Naser’s war crimes, Naser abducts him and tortures him for days, constantly electrocuting him until he gets burned alive, leading to a slow and painful death.

When arrives in Los Angeles as a Syrian diplomat under the alias Rashid Mourtada, a doctor from Syria, David Sarraf, steals a flash drive containing all of Naser’s war crimes that could put him behind bars. However Naser rams David with a van, steals the flash drive, and decides to leave him stuck between the van and the wall, leading to David’s excruciating suffering that would last the entire episode before eventually succumbing to his wounds.

Unfortunately before the team manages to arrest Naser and recovered the flash drive, Naser has already erased everything in the flash drive and with no evidence linking him to the war crimes and his diplomatic status, he gets bailed out of arrest and gets away with everything he has done.

Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?

None on both counts. All that’s known about his past is that he was a general working for the Syrian Government who used his authority to carry out his horrible atrocities.

He might have had people within the Syrian government to have answered to, its made abundantly clear that he takes sadistic pleasure in what he does, as such when he learns that one of Naser’s victims was David’s son and that David would eventually die from his wounds, the only thing Naser does is smugly smile taking joy in David anguish and showing no remorse in everything that he has done.

Heinousness?

With already a confirmed body count of hundreds, which includes innocent women and children, including the doctor’s son, Naser already has one of the highest confirmed body counts in the franchise. That’s not even getting to his other crimes and slowly torturing an NCIS agent to death, and ramming an doctor with a car before leaving him to die, both fates before slow and excruciating deaths. With all that I believe that Naser is more than heinous enough to qualify.

Final Verdict

I’ll leave that to you guys

[down][down] there is enough photographic evidence that makes Joram's crimes Onscreen. One of the photo's of Naser's victims was the doctor's son.

[up]I'm leaning towards [tup] for General Nasser, but how much of the war in Syria is Offscreen Villainy? What he does on camera sounds sadistic enough, granted.

Yeah, I’m ready to call it quits on that quote.

The quotes that probably work better for Lane come to think of it are the dialogue between Ethan and Benji about the Syndicates' most devastating attacks (Rogue Nation) and Lane’s quote to Ethan about "the fallout of all your good intentions".

I think ACW mentioned him a while back, and now that my memory is clearer I’m comfortable to EP him. So introducing Peter Clairmont.

Who Is He? What Has He Done

Peter Clairmont was the leader of U.S sniper team that who become a Serial Killer, responsible for the death of NCIS Special Agent Kensi Blye's father, Donald as well as all the other members of the unit that both men were in.

A while ago leading Blye and the other members of the sniper team, Peter got drunk one night and later in his drunken state and presumably consumed by rage, killed a man. To make sure no one would find out Peter tried to cover his tracks

However reporter Brad Stevens found out about Peter’s murder and was writing a story about it. Donald tried to warn him about Peter but before Brad could do anything, Peter killed him to cover his tracks and as a result, the story was buried.

Donald tried to turn Peter in with evidence of his crimes, but before he could so, Peter beat him to death and staged everything to make it look like Donald was killed by the car veering of course and Peter made it look like a drunken mistake. As such, Donald's body was left so disfigured that dental records had to be used to identify him.

Peter would get away with his crimes for a while, until Donald's daughter, Kensi joined NCIS, seeking answers into her father's death. To cover his tracks he faked his own death and entered a new life as a private contractor under a false name: Peter Nelson.

Then a few years after Kensi joined NCIS, she began questioning all the men her father served with in order to find out who killed him. As a result he came out of hiding and started killing all the members of the team the same way he killed his targets when working for the unit.

While Owen thought Kensi herself was killing them, Peter killed everyone except his team's handler, Alex Harris. NCIS got to him first and arranged a meeting between him and Kensi. Unknown to them, Alex struck a deal with Peter to get Kensi in exchange for letting him live.

At the meeting however Peter double crossed Alex and killed him by shooting him and then tried to kill Kensi but failed due to the fact that it was revealed that she was wearing a bullet-proof vest which saved her.

Afterwards, Peter assembled his team of private contractors to help him kill Kensi and acquire the evidence that implicated him. He killed Megan Stevens and had one of his agents, Anya, go to her house and pretend to be her to get information out of Kensi. Kensi, however, saw through the act and ended up killing the agent in self-defense and, once finished, called Peter from Anya's cellphone, arranging a final showdown between her and Peter with the intention of settling their dispute once and for all.

Kensi eventually confronted him and after a brutal battle, she prevailed, resulting in Clairmont being left injured with Kensi commenting to Callen, Sam and Granger that Clairmont would survive if he got to a hospital in time, and that she was finally done.

Just as she was walking away from the scene, Clairmont, enraged that he had been bested by Kensi, he intend to shoot her but Owen Granger reacted and saved Kensi's life by shooting Clairmont, killing him instantly and shocking the rest of the team.

Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?

Okay during a time Peter and Kensi’s were apart of a unit and Peter accidentally killed someone in a fit a rage. Rather than show any remorse and turn himself in for the crime or show, he only cared about how it would affect him and proceeded to cover it up and would intentionally kill more people who knew about his crimes, even members of his own unit. In the end Peter loses any justification and redeeming factors, reveling himself to be nothing more than a self-serving coward willing to kill anyone to save his own ass.

Heinousness

Alright while I just mentioned Naser killing hundreds, he was a General who has chemical weapons. Peter is neither a general or does he have chemical weapon, but with the limited resources that he does have, he has proven himself to be very heinous himself.

His kill count is in the dozens, most, if not all his victim, died slowed and horribly, and since killed one of the main character’s father, he already has an edge at being one of the most personal villains in the franchise

Final Verdict

I’ll leave that to you guys
