[up]I'm thinking about that too, like, I don't remember him doing anything morally mitigating but he is reduced to a Joke Character...because he is Sealed Inside a Person-Shaped Can that is Hajime of all persons. That is the Other mitagating trait.

That is why I'd asked if anyone discussed him before, because I wanna try and see what it sticks.

"Glemmy Toto" is still the goofiest CM name IMO. He sounds like... I dunno, the Teletubbies' drunk uncle.

Tbf, Caesar Clown's been virtually reduced to a Joke Character too, and he still qualifies.

Theres also Helga from Totally Spies whose crimes are played seriously but reduced to a joke character while still a little bit threatening as the time goes on.

Speaking of Joke characters... Gotta check Kyo Kara Maoh and possibly Phi Brain at a later future.

So if villains who start out threatening but become Joke Characters as time passes can be on this trope than why can't HIM from the PPG count?

Assuming his unapproved entry which says he wants to destroy the earth and experiments on children is accurate. He probably counts.

Always worth a double-check though, I remember someone tried for the book version of Vosch via his villains wiki entry on the basis that he used child soldiers and Kill All Humans... neglecting to read the book and thereby missing the fact the character had a family he was indicated to care about.

also may as well through up a yeah for the silly-voice demon while I'm here.

[tup] to Gagyson and Vector.

Even though I have not been here for too long, I suppose if I had to pick a favorite proposed CM, it would be STEM from Upgrade. Very well done twist villain with a surprisingly charming personality for a monotone A.I.

One more candidate before my write-ups, who I found in the same zombie movie binge that brought me to Vic.

What's the work?

The Rezort is a British horror film that has been described as "Jurassic Park but with zombies", which fits it perfectly.

After a zombie outbreak claims the lives of 2 billion humans worldwide, the zombie threat is ultimately neutralized. When the only zombies in the world are left on an island owned by billionaire Valeria Wilton, she creates "The Rezort", turning the island into a hotel and resort where guests go on safaris to kill the remaining zombies in the world, be it for sport or as a form of vengeance by proxy for what the undead put humanity through.

Who is Valerie Wilton? What has she done?

Valerie Wilton is, as I said, the CEO of The Resort and a head contributor to the worldwide relief program "Hope 4 U", designed to bring aid to the billions affected by the outbreak and offer safe havens for the millions of refuges driven from their home countries by the outbreak and ensuing chaos.

However, there is a much darker side to The Rezort and Hope 4 U, as it is revealed that all of the "original" zombies trapped on Wilton's island have long been dead, and she has actually been using the nearby Hope 4 U refugee camp to kidnap thousands of refugees, forcibly expose them to zombie virus, and then put them through giant microwave machines that dessicate their bodies and make remove any evidence that they are "fresh", thus giving Wilton an endless supply of zombies to keep The Rezort, and her millions profited from it, flowing in.

Having turned thousands of men, women, and children (young children explicitly seen here) into zombies to use as cannon fodder for guests at The Rezort, Wilton plans to keep the cash, and victim count, rising for decades to come, however when an activist group hacks into The Rezort and releases the thousands of zombies from their imprisonment, her plans are foiled.

Locking herself in her office, leaving her own staff outside to die to save her own skin as they scream for her to let them in, Wilton is apathetic to the fact that her failsafe, "Operation Brimstone", will soon activate and wipe out every living thing on the island, including any surviving guests, so long as she escapes.

When the protagonist Mel makes her way into Wilton's office, Wilton first tries to play nice to get Mel's help in escaping, before ordering her to give Wilton her gun (with the heavy implication being that Wilton is going to use Mel as bait to be eaten while she escapes), and then assaulting Mel and stealing the gun.

Before she can train it on Mel however, zombies burst in and rip Wilton to shreds as she screams, killing the woman and ending The Rezort.

Does Wilton have a Freudian Excuse or other mitigating factors?

None. Wilton justifies her crimes by saying "I'm just a businesswoman in a world with new priorities", but Mel calls her out for this bullshit immediately, just calling Wilton an animal far worse than any zombie.

When first meeting up with Mel, Wilton seems legitimately trying to team up with her to get them both out of harm's way, but this is thrown out the window when she attacks Mel for her gun, with her phrasing beforehand implying she planned to use Mel as a distraction to enable her own escape.

Is Wilton sufficiently heinous?

Yes. Though she has little screentime and her only notable crime is the "Hope 4 U" scandal, that alone propels her far over the heinous standard. She has thousands of horrible deaths in her hands by turning innocent men, women, and children into zombies to be shot and tortured by guests, all just to turn a profit.

Final Verdict?

Easy [tup].

Feb 10th 2019 at 11:55:20 PM

Easy yes indeed. Though one wonders logically how long she expected to keep that up before people got a bit... hmm, suspicious. Unless zombies can breed in this universe.

[up][up] No breeding, it is justified in-universe as "no one caring" enough to actually do the math and realize the numbers of zombies aren't adding up, but honestly it feels like a hand-wave to explain it, like the filmmakers came up with the plot for Wilton's crimes then realized halfway through filming "oh wait how is she getting away with this" and threw the line in for that reason.

Feb 11th 2019 at 12:49:49 AM

@Cloister By all means.

So I HOPE this is the last time I have to try this quote that I donít think I got any responses on whatsoever before. I omitted the "gonna put you in a box part" and I think it pulls together very well. I believed it did ever since I first heard it and it certainly gets a [tup] from me:

"I know you Lane. Somewhere along the line, you had a crisis of faith. Human life didnít matter anymore or maybe it never really did. Either way, you killed too many innocent people without ever asking: ďWhoís giving the ordersĒ or why. You blamed the system for what you are instead of yourself. You wanted revenge, but Rome wasnít destroyed in a day. You needed help, you needed money, a lot of it and youíll stop at nothing to get it."
Ethan Hunt to Solomon Lane, Mission: Impossible Ė Rogue Nation

Should the part about "put you in a box go back in? Iím good either way.

Say Vector is in the film adaptation of Aliya. I think Sanfranman has reserved that movie, though I havenít heard anything from him for quite sometime. If he doesnít respond who else wants to reserve that movie?
