During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Yeah. Not seeing a problem here with Wilson. This is not the first or the last "stereotypically evil American" villain portrayed in foreign media. Pretty damn sure America has several "stereotypically evil Muslim" villains, so yeah. Don't agree with that argument.
I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.On the Joko thing, you don't need to be put down about it. There was simply a long time between the initial mention and the write up you put on the drafts page. Your initial post only got a few votes but most people didn't recognize him as a candidate without the effort post format we're use to. The initial paragraph you put up on Joko included all the big stuff on him, but I also wanted to include the small stuff like all the brainwashing of his people, exiling people and then having them murdered to be raised as his slaves, and then that whole rape dungeon thing.
Of course, I was going to do everyone in order of appearancee. The Guild Wars 1 villains and then work my way through Scarlet, Caudecus, and Balthazar from Guild Wars 2 before finally going to Joko. Thus, if you want to move forward with Joko, we could use your entry you put on the drafts as he still got enough votes to go up.
Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.Found these entries from a Pokémon fanfic called Speargun:
- Complete Monster:
- Sputnik had no problem with executing hundreds of peaceful protesters for getting on his nerves during his speech, orders parts of Celestic Town destroyed, and pretends that his killings came from a disease.
- Mir decided to hold Eternal and Fantina hostage, prepared to use a team of trained-to-kill pokémon to kill one boy, and killed over a dozen people who didn't agree with his views and had the courage to attack him while he was drinking his morning coffee, even though they didn't really do anything and were clearly egged on to attack by him.
I've no idea who added them, since it doesn't come up in the page history.
(Annoyed grunt)School's starting again tomorrow, so I felt what better way than to tackle a web novel trilogy. Yeah, I know it's on Archive of Our Own, but this site is a goldmine for CMs.
What Is the Work?
3 Terrifying Tales
is a trilogy of horror stories by FNW2
.
The first story, 73 Years Later, is about a teenager named Michael who ends up uncovering something from his grandpa’s past. The second story, Cold Winter Nights, is about a serial killer who murders women for money. And the last story, Electrocution, is about a zombie apocalypse that connects the previous two stories via returning characters.
I have three candidates from the series, so here’s the first one.
Who Is he?
Heinrich Strauss is a Nazi who serves as the Big Bad of 73 Years Later
, and a minor villain in Electrocution.
What has he done?
A Nazi commander occupying a village in Norway in order to find the key to immortality, Heinrich was infamous for tracking down Jewish families and letting them run about in a large field for either target practice, or to let his dogs kill. He would also execute the children while keeping the adults alive just long enough to see them grieve for their lost one; when he’s not doing that, he’ll leave the father alive to dig his own grave then kill him. Capturing Harold and his troops, he forced Harold to watch as he allowed his ravenous dogs to kill his men. When Harold refuses to dig his own grave, Heinrich tries to kill him before he’s interrupted by Alfred, who killed Harold, Alfred’s lover, right in front of him. Alfred, in return, shot the Nazi straight in the forehead, killing him.
… But, it was revealed that Heinrich was actually in a year-long coma. During that coma, Heinrich met the powerful witch Alitha, who pulled him from the depths of Hell, thinking that even the worse souls deserve redemption. Heinrich, of course, doesn’t see value in redemption, and when he finds the key to immortality, he kills Alitha and wakes from his coma. Coming back from the dead and living up to his 90s, he disguises himself as Harold via plastic surgery and kills the now-old Alfred, visiting his funeral just to spit on his grave. He visits rapist Danielle and threatens her with proof of her rapes should she not kill Michael and Lucas, which he says doing so will grant her immortality. Once she brings the two to his hideout, Heinrich kills her then Lucas. Right before he could kill Michael, Michael pushes him down the stairs, but because of his old age, he ends up dying from broken bones and blood loss.
Resurrected by one of Natalie Walker’s scientists, Heinrich attacked the head doctor and, along with the resurrected murderer Vincent North, killed everyone there before making a getaway. Feeling that the era of the superior Arian race has come to an end, he establishes an underground concentration camp, where he has an older Michael kidnapped and orders Vincent to torture him for three years. Once Michael is freed by Maggie and the two almost kill Vincent, Heinrich comes in and shoots Vincent in the head for failing him. Knocking out Maggie and Michael with the plan to put them inside his camp, he shows the two what he does in his camp. Heinrich has a father, mother, and son brought to him, where he kills the son in front of the parents in order to revel in their sadness and chucks a grenade that kills them. When Hayley, one of Natalie’s slave girls, arrives to rescue everyone and starts a riot, Heinrich leaves his men to die and locks himself inside his office. Trapped inside his office, he has become so paranoid that he orders one of his soldiers to kill every injured soldier of his just in case they might be lying. Hearing that Natalie and company are storming his prison, he orders his men to stand their ground for the glory of the prison, only to sneak outside and attempt an escape. Heinrich is then captured by Natalie’s men after they put a bullet into his leg; he tries to beg for forgiveness, but is executed by Natalie.
Redeeming Qualities?
None.
Heinousness?
He has a lot of bodies to his name, which is not bad for a simple human in a supernatural setting. That and, well, he's a Nazi and damn proud of it.
Conclusion
I think he’s a keep.

It's Spooky Month! And on that note, another "stereotypically evil German" villain.
for Heinrich Strauss.
You know, speaking of Greek Myth, I'm gonna have to do research and see if Sisyphus does indeed count. If this
is accurate, he violates xenia like the other 2 keepers. I may also look into Norse Mythology; there's a whole wealth of potential candidates there.
I'm fine with Chuck; as long as it's not a super-racist caricature (there's a reason we don't, as far as I know, have any Yellow Peril candidates), I don't think it's really a problem.
Heinrich. I'm guessing the second candidate's the Serial Killer; I wonder who the third is.
Here's the second 3TT candidate.
Who Is he?
Vincent North is the Villain Protagonist of Cold Winter Nights
, and a bad guy in Electrocution.
What has he done?
As a child, Vincent’s mother slipped on some ice while trying to get the mail and screamed for Vincent to come help her. Vincent instead enjoyed his mother’s screams as she quickly froze to death due to wearing nothing but a bathrobe. Vincent didn’t feel sadness; instead he felt disappointment that her suffering and screaming were too short for him to enjoy.
Picking up women of all ages in his car and promising to take them home every December, he instead drugs them and takes them back to his place where he kills them by stripping them naked and having them endure the cold. Vincent takes a heater with him, forbids them from food or water, and promises his victims that he’ll let them live, even though he has no intent on letting them go. Once they freeze overnight, he takes photos of them and puts the body onto a pile of corpses. With the photos, he sells them on the Dark Web through his website, frozenbeauties.com, with seven photos on his website by the time the story starts. Taking a child named Crystal with him to freeze her to death, Vincent realizes that she was actually a victim of his who came back as a ghost to get revenge on him. Getting locked inside his murder-shack due to the doorknob freezing, the corpses come to life and get their revenge on Vincent, killing him by clawing his skin.
Later resurrected by one of Natalie Walker’s scientists, Vincent worked with Heinrich in killing everyone there, making a getaway shortly after. Working with Heinrich as his torturing second-in-command, Vincent went on to torture Michael for three years, digging blades into his wrist. Vincent also has a trophy room all to himself, the trophies being the frozen corpses of his new batch of female victims of all ages, carving the word “Faggot” on the Lesbians’ chests after they were frozen. Maggie is disgusted when she sees the lifeless statues. Vincent is able to do this by taking in random women from Heinrich’s concentration camp, stripping them naked, soaking them with water, and shoving them inside a freezer. Vincent tries to stop Maggie when she frees Michael, but Michael ends up stabbing him in the stomach. He begs for Heinrich to come and help him, but Heinie instead shoots him in the head for being worthless.
Redeeming Qualities?
None.
Heinousness?
While he doesn’t have as high a body count as Heinrich or my third candidate, he’s just a regular human who has far less resources than Heinrich, and is just a regular, average dude who kills for fun and profit. He's also the most brutal of the bunch, as he loves prolonging his victims' suffering.
Conclusion
I think he’s also a keep.
It's Spooky Month!
