During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I found this entry in Slade in Flame''
Sounds like a dick but he sounds under baseline and not very heinous to me

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Another KR post for Mir, before i have the chance to watch a Korean thriller flick and see if that has a possible candidate.
What is the work? The manga adaptation of Kamen Rider BLACK is a successful attempt at making a violent, bleak show that was totally aimed at children even more Darker and Edgier. In the original story, two step-brothers, Kohtaro and Nobuhiko, were abducted by the nefarious Gorgom, and remade into cyborgs, destined to become the kings of Gorgom, and fight for the place of ruler of the world. Before Kohtaro could have his mind altered by Gorgom, he escaped, and spends the rest of the series fighting his brainwashed brother. Unlike his original counterpart, Nobuhiko suffers a massive case of Adaptational Villainy in the manga, as he doesn't show signs of brainwashing, and even pretends to be Kohtaro's most important ally, hunting Gorgom's mutants with him until the very last chapter, where it is revealed that he allowed Gorgom cause earthquakes and other disasters, killing countless people. However, Nobuhiko is not our candidate for today, as he is nowhere near as heinous as this monster.
Who is he? The man responsible for years of senseless carnage... Kohtaro himself! A psychopathic tyrant from the year 2018 (yup), Kohtaro murdered his rival stepbrother and achieved the status of Century King, gaining total dominion over Gorgom. Starting a nuclear war to eradicate human civilization, Kohtaro launched bombs and missiles all over the planet, reducing humanity to tribes, forcing the few survivors to live like cavemen, and infestating the world with radioactive creatures that are hostile to humans. Infamously nicknamed the "Demon King" by the survivors, and embracing it as his own title, the Demon King orders his army to hunt for survivors as he was not satisfied with the initial genocide, dismembering their corpses as trophies and slaying their babies. As for the Demon King, he constantly rides a dragon to search for survivors himself, always mocking them for resisting, and proclaiming that this apocalyptic world is their destiny, either enslaving them or sentencing them to execution. Initiating an assault against the rebellious survivors, the Demon King bombs one of their camps, killing several innocents in the process. Living in his own cave, which is guarded by his soldiers, the Demon King purposedly transmits a signal so that the Kohtaro from the past could sense him.
Fully-recognizing his younger-self, the Demon King laughs madly when he hears that the Kohtaro from the past wanted to stop him from causing even more misery, wasting no time in mocking his inability to kill him as they are the same person, and showing off his far superior powers, "gifts" that the Kohtaro from the past "couldn't possibly imagine". Knowing very well that the Demon King couldn't kill him either, as it would erase him from existence, Kohtaro challenges him to fight until one of them dies. Expecting this plan from the "Young Demon King", but at the same time fearing for his life, the Demon King comments on how there is no point in fighting, as he has already created a "whole new world" and that the "foolish humans" have destroyed their own future. Desperately trying to recruit Kohtaro so they could "sculpt a perfect utopia", and claiming that he has done nothing wrong because he is "simply the ruler of this world".
Realizing that his strategy would not work, he reveals that he is a "truly all-powerful Demon King" by confessing that he has drained all the energy of the planet and spreaded his influence to every corner of the earth, so that if he one day he would assassinated, he could "take this world to hell with me". Enraged, Kohtaro gives him the middle finger by saying that he doesn't care if the world is destroyed, as his rule is already "hell on earth", and that "mutual destruction is more graceful than being controlled by you". As the two Kohtaros began their decisive battle, the good Kohtaro was suddenly pulled back to the present, leaving the fate of the people from the future in mystery.
Heinous? Yes. Easily the worst antagonist coming from a manga adaptation, no other baddie has committed more atrocities than the Demon King, even if he is a secondary antagonistic force.
Freudian Excuses? This is where it gets kinda confusing. It is never explained if the Demon King was brainwashed by Gorgom or was just consumed by power to the point where he forgot who his loved ones were, as he seemed to not know Nobuhiko, but at same time recognized himself from the past, meaning that he knows exactly who he is, something that is canonically against Gorgom's laws, as they did their best to destroy Nobuhiko's personality when he was brainwashed in the show to make him remain loyal to them. Also, his plan of destroying the world if he is defeated, his subordinates included, is not something that Gorgom would be proud of, since it is their tradition to choose a new king every fifty millenia, so destroying the earth would mean not only taboo, but also betrayal.
Conclusion? What you think?
Wait, there's a Captain Marvel, a Captain Mar Vell, and a DC Captain Marvel? Good grief
Kohtaro.
Speaking of outlaws in the previous page, today's the Red Dead Redemption 2discussion date. Now I'm not the one who picked it and I ain't the kind of guy who usurps, but Occasional Exister has yet to respond to my second message, so it could be a while before we actually start discussing it. But for the record, there's like three candiates worth talking about.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Sure to Kohatro and how about two quotes

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Here's the de-potholed SMT entries:
- Shin Megami Tensei II: The twisted versions of Archangels Uriel, Raphael, and Michael are overlords of the theocratic dictatorship that has overthrown Tokyo After the End. While they allegedly divided the city into five districts in accordance to the division of labor, it is clear they favor the wealthy Central District and feel free to neglect, abuse, and slaughter outright the residents of the other four. When signs of rebellion appear in the Valhalla district, they order the Demon Lord Abaddon to devour it whole, promising to restore his angelic status if he did so; when he is finished, they cast him back into the demon world. The entirety of the Arcadia district has been lobotomized and plugged into Lotus Eater Machines, causing them to believe they live in an idyllic paradise while their physical bodies waste away; Aleph is subsequently informed the the Archangels intended to do the same to the entire planet. The workers of the Factory District have been brainwashed into slavery by the song of a Siren, who is routinely tortured by the Archangels' henchmen to keep her singing. Finally, they attempt to get Aleph and his comrade Zayin to surrender to them by holding the entire Holytown district hostage, threatening to cut off their air supply and slowly suffocate them to death.
- Strange Journey: The greedy Captain Jack proves that even in the demon world, sometimes the worst monster is humanity. A Private Military Contractor loyal to nothing but his own pocketbook, Jack is hired by an unnamed client corporation to pillage the demon world of its natural resources, a job he takes a twisted pride in. Though initially appearing as an uneasy ally to the protagonists, it is eventually revealed that he plans to manufacture a demon army for his client and himself, regularly performing painful amputations on any demon unfortunate enough to fall into his clutches and fusing them together into unstable forms that leave them in constant pain. When the protagonist's ally Jimenez tries to stop the experiments, Jack sends him to be tortured and fused with his demon friend Bugaboo to use him as a slave. When finally confronted by the protagonist and Jimenez, Jack's only action is to scold them for costing him valuable men and equipment before engaging them in a final battle.
- Shin Megami Tensei IV:
- The original game: Mr. Tayama began as a small-time Yakuza leader in Tokyo, but in the power vacuum following an apocalyptic war he seized control of the city via commandeering the Yamato Perpetual Reactor, Tokyo's main source of power. He thus established himself as the unquestioned leader of the city. While Tayama protects the citizens from the hordes of demons ravaging the city, he does so mainly for the sense of power it gives him; anyone who questions his rule is killed or worse. Tayama invented a Fantastic Drug, Red Pills, that can be used to pacify demons, but unknown to the people of Tokyo, the drug is made from human brains extracted from innocent people his Ashura-kai periodically kidnap and raise in a "human farm" until they die. Tayama is also breeding child slaves for this purpose. Though Tayama claims this is for the benefit of the greater population, he has also hypocritically cornered the market on smartphones, through which demons can also be tamed without causing harm to either them or humans, even demolishing an entire neighborhood to maintain his monopoly.
- Apocalypse: Defense Minister Tamagami may not be a demon, but, despite him not appearing for long, his actions are responsible in a large part for the dystopian setting of the game. A deranged Japanese Ultranationalist who believed only his country was worthy of superpower status, he called upon demonic power to realize his dream. He forcibly removed the souls of prisoners and replaced them with demon souls to create the National Defense Divinities, which he intended to use to conquer Japan's rivals such as China. He overwrote his personality onto the mind of an innocent woman to allow himself to cheat death, and he created the Yamato Reactor, a perpetual energy device fueled by demonic magics, through which demons entered the human world and ignited World War III. As his last gambit, if his new body were ever killed, he performed a ritual to summon Izanami to exterminate his own people and remake Japan from scratch in his image.
- Persona 3: Shuji Ikutsuki was the Chairman of the S.E.E.S., and a seemingly-kind, bumbling Pungeon Master. However, as the game approached the end, his true colors start to show. He is revealed to have partaken in Koutetsu Kirijo's experiment to revive Nyx, which caused an explosion that killed hundreds, including the Protagonist's parents and Yukari's father. This brought about the Dark Hour, which killed even more. He performed unethical experiments on children to produce artificial Personas, including the members of Strega. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax reveals that he even used Sho, his adopted son, for the experiment. When Sho's Split Personality, Minazuki, tried to kill Ikutsuki in self-defense, he put him in a coma and only bothered putting him on life support so that he might be of use to him again. When the events of Persona 3 begin, he manipulates the S.E.E.S. into killing the Twelve Shadows under the belief that it would extinguish the Dark Hour. However, in actuality, killing the Shadows was what he needed to revive Nyx. Nyx, being the Death Arcana, would wipe out humanity. When he was found out, he reprograms Aigis into helping him capture the S.E.E.S., which consist of teenagers and a ten-year-old boy. When Mitsuru's father tries to stop him, he shoots him dead before preparing to do the same to the S.E.E.S., and would have succeeded if Koromaru didn't stop him. A sociopath who would wipe out all life on Earth just to appease a God that is Made of Evil, Ikutsuki stands as one of the most vile human beings in the franchise.
I’m new on this website and this is my first Complete Monster proposal: the main antagonist from Fanny and Alexander - Bishop Edvard Vergérus.
What is the work? Fanny and Alexander is a 1982 swedish drama movie by the well-known director and writer Ingmar Bergman. The movie is about Fanny And Alexander Ekdahl and their mother Emelie and father Oscar, who lives happily with their entire family in The Ekdahl’s House, until Oscar dies from a stroke. Emelie have a breakdown by sadness. On the funeral, they meet the charismatic bishop Edvard Vergérus whom Emelie quickly bonds with. And a short time after that they even decide to get married - a marriage that both she and the the children quickly regret.
Who is our candidate? What does he do? Edvard Vergérus himself. As said before, he at first appears very polite and even charming. However when Emelie marries him and they move in to his house, aka The Bishop’s House, he turns out to be very strict because of his religious views and the children already doesn’t thrive in their new home.
At one point Alexander somehow hears a message from the ghosts of Edvard’s former family members. Yes, Edvard had a family even before Fanny, Alexander and Emelie. The ghosts tells Alexander that Edvard apparently locked them up in the bedroom for five days without food and water, so they decided to escape from The Bishop House, but they accidently fell and drowned in a river on their way. When Alexander tells this to the maid Justina, she blow the gaff and tells Edvard about what Alexander said. Edvard is reminded about his old family and he then gets a worried expression, not because he would miss his family but because he knows that if this story comes out to the public, his image and career is over if he doesn’t do something. Therefore he tells Alexander he has lied and must be punished. Cold and ruthless, he hits Alexander with a cane on his butt till it bleeds (which should count as sexual assault) and then locks Alexander in on the attic, knowing he is afraid of darkness, which psychologically tortures him. Edvard does this to scare Alexander off so he never talks such things that can give Edvard a bad image again.
At this point even Emelie starts to develop open hatred for Edvard and confronts him, but he still doesn’t feel any regret nor remorse. Emelie therefore eventually helps the children escape from the Bishop House with help of Jacobi, a Rabin who hides them in their home where they are safe. When Emelie’s two brothers visits Edvard with the hope to negotiate that he releases the kids and Emelie he still resists. He ends their meeting by calling in Emelie who seems surprisingly happy by telling her brothers ”It’s all a misunderstanding and they actually like here.” She quickly regrets it however, implying it was Edvard who manipulated/blackmailed her as he stares at her and hopes she says what he wants, she didn’t mean any of it. He later dies by getting an overdose of sleeping powder that Emely slipped in Edvard’s drink before they went to sleep. He wakes up feeling extremely sick, knowing he is dying he literally admits by screaming out to Emelie ”I’ll poison you. I’ll pursue you from town to town. I’ll ruin your children!” He later dies when his ill aunt Elsa knocks down a lamp that sets her on fire, she runs to Edvard and falls on him, setting him on fire and dies.
Heinousness He is the Big Bad and the heinousness of the story. Nothing anyone else does can be compared to his actions. 99% of the evil-doings in the story is coming from him, while the others are just trivial things like cheating, lying, gossiping, etc while he is abusing his step-children, manipulates and blackmails his wife.
Mitigating factors No, nothing he does is justified by any ”good intentions” or even a freudian excuse. He isn't shown to have any redeeming qualities either; he clearly does not feel empathy nor remorse for his actions and that says alot; there is no indication that he truly cares for or loves Emelie, the kids or even his sick aunt. He tells Alexander that he loves him, and the minute later cold-blooded hits him till he bleeds (as mentioned before) and locks him up. He claims that he loves Emelie, but manipulates and blackmails her just to stay in charge of her and the kids. One who truly loves someone wouldn’t do such things to their lovers. And he isn’t truly caring about his sick aunt as well, she was barely movable so she wasn’t even a threat to him. It should be obvious at this point that Edvard doesn’t truly care about anyone but himself and his obsessions for staying in charge of people. An abusive, oppressive and psychopathic control freak.
Verdict? You decide!

For shuji could you add a link in persona 4 arena ultimax. We only approved as that game gave him a boost, so some mention of him should be there.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."And here's the only non-film Bond entry that needs de-potholing (the film ones will come later):
- Young Bond: Dr. Perseus Friend is a cold, cruel man. In SilverFin, he helps Randolph Hellebore create a Super Serum despite its ugly results. In By Royal Command he stages a car crash with Graf Otto von Schlick to graft his skin onto himself, and has Otto's wife killed. He joins up with the Third Reich and participates in a scheme to inspire the workers of Britain to revolt against their leaders with a Communist front, resulting in the assassination of King George V, which would place the Fascism-friendly Edward VIII back on the throne, allying with Hitler's Germany against Russia. When he has Bond and his Love Interest Roan captive, Friend decides to repay Bond for their previous encounters by flaying Bond alive while recording it for later viewing and forcing Roan to watch, just for the amusement that he'll gain.
EDIT: Mir, you mean on that game's YMMV page? No problem.
Edited by ACW on Nov 9th 2018 at 3:34:45 PM
Yeah. He was only approved as that game added more heinous actions to his name which pushed him over when combined with what he does persona 3. Like Orson Krennic, he doesnt count with just one, both are essential, so some mention there is essential.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Depothlonig Maax.
- The Beastmaster: Maax was the High Priest of Aruk prior to being banished by King Zed, who learned Maax was planning to sacrifice Zed's unborn son. In retaliation, Maax ordered his witch servants to magically extract the infant from his mother's womb and kill him anyways. The unfortunate queen is killed and the infant prince, Dar, only survives because local villagers rescued him. Years later, Maax led the Juns in conquering Aruk, blinding and imprisoning Zed. Maax presides over brutal oppression of the kingdom, regularly sacrificing children to his god, Ar. He wipes out Dar's village, leading him into conflict with Dar himself. When Dar enters Maax's prison to free Zed, he discovers that Maax has innocent people tortured and transformed into mindless beasts to serve as his guards. Maax later attempts to have Zed, his young son, and his cousin Kiri sacrificed to Ar. He then taunts Zed by revealing Dar is his son before killing him.

I found another unapproved entry for Yon-Rogg on the YMMV page for Captain Mar Vell.
Anyone familiar with him care to do an effort post?
