During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I think Churchill is still bad enough. And believe me, it's annoying with Paul, but I don't get any indication that he DOESN'T love his mother, even if it IS a throwaway line.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsIt's been awhile since I read it, but doesn't his mother love him as well (yes, I'm aware Even Evil Can Be Loved isn't a disqualifier, but in this case...)?

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsMorganthe sounds like a y.........Wait! Didn't another poster called Monsterhunter brought this example a long time ago? I think she's a yea but at the same time, the writeup for her is never existed
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."ACW, stop talking to them.
Welcome back, Witchoftheabsolute, and goodbye.
They are gone again.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThank you. Back to business.
If Morganthe counts, someone get Monsterhunter or do a writeup on their effortpost.
Don't dignify this troll further.
Yeesh.
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.Speaking of Witch...........Holy crap I really need to read Land of Stories and try to find some keepers. Then again, I'm a busy guy so yeah.
Anyways, for Monsterhunter, didn't he got kicked from the thread to the point he made a sock account?
EDIT: Actually, Let me see Morganthe's EP again and I'll try to give it a shot

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."What if Monsterhunter 2002 was Witch of the Absolute? They both said the same characters at one point, and they love to make socks.
So, anyway...shall I officially file the cuts for Rico & his partner, and Comic!Killgrave?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsThen again youre right.... But I felt that something is kind of different with Witch's posting vibes and monsterhunter's posting vibes...... You know what, I think I'll try to check this series out just to make sure and I also going to check Cinderella Phenomenon (Thank you Shaoken) to see if I could give both Morganthe and Hildyr a write-up.
Anyways, back on business..... While this is a bit off-topic. It's a bit related for this trope.....So, apparently Bakki the Grappler will get another anime adaptation (I guess?) and because of this, anyone want to vouch for discussion regarding that upcoming anime remake?
@ACW I'd say go for it!

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."File the cuts. MH is long banned, so Morganthe can rest unless someone devotes the effort to playing through the game and giving her a proper, thorough EP.
So what happened recently?
Thats not what I meant. I was asking what happened on this thread.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."The standard for Grand Theft Auto got so jacked up that basically no one can ever count again.
Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.Witch again. Pay it no heed and move on.
To start? There is one other cut I've been thinking about for a while. That cut? Malachite from Suburban Knights.
This is something I think me and Austin talked about way back in the day... mainly? The entire film is a comedy, and while I've vouched for Malachite being played seriously enough in the past, in retrospect? I don't think this holds up. Malachite is not immune to the comedic moments; I don't really think a Knight of Cerebus-style CM played completely seriously throughout the film would have moments like being interrupted in the final battle by having to answer his cell phone and neither would the reactions to the people he rants to and kills be consistently humorous ("hey, you're kinda hot!"). These comedic moments aren't accentuating his villainy, either; they constantly undercut and distract from his menace and the result is a tonally-imbalanced character who I don't think is played seriously enough for the trope. Compare characters like Mechakara from Atop the Fourth Wall who are taken dead seriously (the film following Suburban Knights stars Mechakara, who is largely — and deliberately — devoid of any comedic moments whatsoever, especially in contrast to the other members of the Big Bad Ensemble) and the difference becomes apparent.
My main sticking point here? The one big death scene he causes is played entirely for laughs too; it's an exaggerated parody of Spock's death from Wrath of Khan, up to the dead character in question launched into space in a Quaker Oats canister. Is that really what you think the aftermath of the actions of a truly dangerous Complete Monster would be played like?
So, my case to cut? Simple. The film is a parody, and Malachite isn't taken seriously enough as a result.
Thoughts, there?

Witch of the Absolute appeared and did an EP on a character that another banned user did, which got people suspicious.
Malachite
Yeah, I never felt that Malachite counted, especially because of the phone scene.
Hmm, yeah, he seems tonally unbalanced. Although, as to his death, I'm not worried about that (1 current CM explodes after eating too much cheese), but seems like there's still enough to cut otherwise.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Drafts@Kurtis:
If it really was the Leech Queen and not Marcus, then I don’t think we can pin his past crimes on her. Even if she perfectly replaced his memories and acts like she’s Marcus, she would still be a different being. That said, I always believed it was still Marcus. Yet TV Tropes, The Other Wiki and the Resident Evil Wiki claim that it wasn’t him but the Leech Queen. So I’m really not sure what’s true.
It really has been a loooooooooong time since I played Resident Evil Zero.
Lol. Yeah we also have a bad guy from some game who died because he was immobilized due to a magic joke (remember that because I was a lurker than and that effort-post was really memorable).
Also Witch, word of advice if your reading this, please just leave us alone. There are better things to do with your life than bug us.
also to malchite.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I agree that Malachite should be cut, he isn't really taken all that seriously by the story.
The silly death scene Scraggle is talking about isn't Malachite's, its the death of one of his victims. And arguably the victim who's death is given the most weight. So the ridiculousness of it definitely is a mark against him being played seriously.

No. We've discussed this.
That a sock I'm smelling?
