Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

@Scraggle Yeah, i'd like to read all of blade of the immortal. There are a ton of volumes though, when does Shira first appear?

@Lightysnake That seems dumb actually. Why did they change it?

'Yes' to Mystle.

Just saw Black Panther myself. Solid Marvel film, though nothing like what the critics are making it out to be.

On worst animanga villains....Shira will always spring to mind, though the one I'd say is the "worst" IMO is Westcott. Not EXACTLY an animanga, but close enough to count as one, and he's easily one of the most despicable villains in anything I've seen, and one of my personal worst proposals.

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!

[tup] Mystletainn.

Most heinous Monsters from Anime/Manga I've proposed? Umihebi, Diodora Astaroth, Segai Waltz Makoto, Funatsu, Manga!Marcus, Seiji Haitani, Yang Kum-Ji, Rido Kuran, and Shaula Gorgon.

My opinion for most heinous Anime/Manga overall? Well it would have to be a tie between Medusa Gorgon and Ragyo Kiryuin.

Oh and Monica Rial has also voiced Dante and Rize Kamishiro.

I am unsure if anyone is interested but considering the topic of anime and manga and how this is a game from japan, is ANYONE interested in metal gear survive? It will likely be the next new game discussion after Lighty discusses Kingdom come: deliverance.(interesting game btw) and the Dynasty warriors 9 discussion.

[up][up][up] I agree with you about Medusa, Ragyo, Dante, and Rize. Two of the worst mothers in anime (and possibly all of fiction), someone so vain that it's unbearable, and a straight-up depraved lunatic.

I also saw someone mention Haguro. And I can say that he is a whole other level of disturbing.

I got a candidate that may turn out to be one of my favorite CM's of all time.

What is the Work?

Wallander is a long-running Swedish crime-thriller TV Show. Like I've mentioned before, the Swedish show is the same character, but a different universe from the Kenneth Branagh one. Wallander is mostly associated with Krister Henriksson or Kenneth Branagh, but before any of those were Kurt Wallander, Rolf Lassgard added a whole other personality to the character that is Wallander. This is a 2007 episode named The Pyramid (Pyramiden in Swedish) about the origins and early police career of Kurt Wallander, and one of the first criminals Wallander had to catch.

Bohle is his name. Heinrich Bolhe.

Who is Bohle? What does he do?

Bohle is the wealthy owner of a restaurant as well as a criminal mastermind. He is definitely one of my favorite Wallander villains, if not my favorite due to how charismatic and enjoyable he is to watch.

In a flashback scene during Wallander's early police days before becoming a commissar, he is seen visiting a good friend. They have a laugh and talk for a while. It is then Bohle shoots her just as they are having a good time, as well as shooting another guy in her house. Wallander, shocked, goes into the house where Bohle was in and nearly gets shot himself. Bohle ultimately manages to escape despite Wallander having a perfect aim at him, something that will cause a big effect at Wallander later since he let one of his best friends die just because of being too kindhearted.

After having a conversation with one of his mooks after talking with Wallander, Bohle and another one of his mooks kidnap one of Yngve Holm (A big drug dealer)'s family member... in her own home because of a drug overdose one of Yngve's drug dealers did, which could possibly make Bohle and his mooks get caught. They tape her around a chair and put a heart rate monitor on her. If she tries escaping, the heart rate will go up and the whole house will explode. Eventually, her sister comes and tries saving her. Both of them die because of the explosion.

Wallander and his new lover who I forgot the name of meet someone who knows who Bohle is. He tells them that Bohle is a "fucking swine" and that "everything was better before he appeared". Wallander promises that he will find Bohle. Ironically, Bohle drives by with his car and kills the guy who Wallander is talking to a couple of seconds after their conversation has ended. Wallander gets a flashback once again from his first encounter with Bohle.

Bohle meets Yngve's right hand Frank, and they have a seemingly affable conversation about ruining Yngve's life even more. That is until Bohle sarcastically says "let's make him feel really alone, shall we?" and he kills Frank as well. This would make a really good image. Sadly, you can't really see the faces of the victim, so that's that.

His final act before his death is kidnapping Yngve's daughter and doing the same thing he did with his sisters. He put a heart rate monitor, but on himself this time, while he has taped a bomb around Yngve's daughter. If his heart rate monitor goes below 50 or above 90, it will send a signal to the bomb that is on Yngve's daughter, blowing her up. He almost succeeds with this, but ultimately dies getting blown up by his own bomb in the end, since Wallander carefully removed it from Yngve's daughter.

Heinousness?

I'd say easily clears it. Rolf counted because he was a pedophile, something that no one else in the series has been. Bohle is the core sadist of the series and one of the few villains with no mitigating factors at all. Most villains tend to look horrible at first, only to later be shown to be tragic and weak individuals who are victimized by other villains who aren't heinous enough. One of the best examples, and actually one of the few that in my opinion works, is in one of the episodes where it is building up this pimp crime lord who rapes his own women. Turns out, he's just a nice guy who owns a modelling business and treats his women as if they were his daughters. As I've mentioned before, most of the villains only kill one-two people, so it is extremely rare to find someone who counts.

Mitigating Factors

None that stand up till the end. Him being affable to his henchmen isn't a mitigating factor since he even kills two of them.

Conclusion

As usual, I'll leave it to you guys.

If you want a picture on how he looks, here you go.

And in celebration of a new MCU movie (just coincidence actually, albeit a fortuitous one) I'll (tentatively) have my 2 final effortposts from those 90s Marvel novels tomorrow. One's an original character (a Middle East dictator who basically tries to blow up the world); the other's one who only has his original comic iteration (Baron Strucker).

I haven't actually proposed any anime villains (except Sigma from Maverick Hunter X, kinda), but as far as manga monsters I've proposed go, the head-collecting fortune teller from that one Junji Ito story was pretty fucked up. As someone with a lifelong crippling fear of bugs, what she did with the cockroach made me cry a little.

As far as most evil anime villains in anything ever? Man, that's a tough one, especially since I'm not a huge anime nut and have sort of a shallowish reference pool. I agree that Embryo's pretty high up there, same with Jinmen and Yashiro. The Tokyo Ghoul/Akame ga Kill monsters are pretty awful too, though it's mainly due to an edgy try hard "ha ha what if this evil horrible person murderraped tons of kids or castrated a kid to keep him feminine" mindset. While she's not as bad as those examples, I also kinda felt that Ragyo was an exercise in trying to make the most evil villain in anything ever and being a try hard about it.

Knack 2: If you want to handle Metal Gear Survive, go ahead. I personally am not interested since I haven't heard good things about it, and it looks like others are in the same boat.

And I'll throw in a quick yes for Bohle. Sorry about ignoring him, tunnel vision regarding that sort of thing is a recurring issue of mine.

I haven't seen Black Dynamite Panther yet, but I imagine part of the reason critics are raving is because it's such an important film for Afro Futurism and all its implications.

Yes to Bohle. Anyways, here's Mystletainn's writeup:

Yumekui Merry: The anime brings us the exclusive character, Mystletainn Treesea, Ryota Ijima’s vicious dream demon who has a knack of torturing other dream demons for fun before finishing them off and eat them. Before she met with Ijima, she slaughtered Lestion’s companions in the battlefield when they’re trying to capture her. After meeting with the equally sadistic Ryota Ijima who has the plan to ruin other people’s dreams, Mystletainn then happily executes Ijima’s orders by trying to implant other Dream Demons to innocent students, including Yumeji’s friend Isana, and then slaughters them. As a result, the students become emotionless and apathetic towards their own goals and their future. When she was confronted by Merry and Yumeji when trying to ruin Isana’s dream. Mystletainn imprisons Isana in an orb of water and then taunted Merry by wearing her hat. She then wraps up Isana’s dream demon by her chains and then puts him near her heart so that she could make a human skewer after piercing both of them. In the final battle, Mystletainn pierces another dream demon, Engi in her hip-area with a large thorn and then imprison Merry in a white rose-bud called The bud of Despair so that Merry could be destroyed by her own sorrow. After Chizuru and Lestion performs a heroic sacrifice, Mystletainn mocked the emotionless and empty Chizuru about the sacrifice that doesn’t bear a fruit. In the last ditch effort before getting totalled by Engi and Merry, she then swallows Isana’s dream demon and taunts both of them that they will also kill Isana’s dream when they kill her. Lestion said it the best that she was formed in a deepest pits of hell and she took every enjoyment on what she does.

Any objections before I posted it to the drafts? Should I trim her writeup or try to pothole some things. And as for potholes, I think about it later

[up] I agree about ragyo being over the top evil. Never liked her as a villain. And yeah, a company that has its reputation depend on one man than treats that man like dirt? Yeah, not a good idea, this might be Konami's last metal gear game depending on its success though, just to get it out of the way.

@ACW Aaaand send. [tup]

Anyways, other heinous anime characters than Yuuto. Well, I actually EP 5 of them and I could say that while I found Yuuto to be heinous of the bunch. They could be as bad as him....There's Professor "Trying to destroy a city and ruining the lives of others to get a rare treasure" Clover,Jatice "Be a drug dealer and inflict some cruel and unusual death to your opponent to slake your own Knight Templar views" Lowfan,Seijiro "Claims yourself to be well intentioned in your goals but in reality is nothing more of a hypocrite and tries to rewrite reality of his own image" Inui and the recently proposed Mystletainn of course and I'm going to look on other anime that I reserved to see if they have some keepers in there.

And then there's Dakki actually who is also heinous too and she didnt qualify in the manga due to her redeeming quality but she does qualify in the 90s version of Soul Hunter anime so that's something.

Anyways, ACW....Where will the Paprika writeup be going. In Anime category or Film category? Since its an anime movie after all
