Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

@Lighty. Anime only.

Can we put this image of Gregor burning a village instead of Joffrey?

[tup] Mystletainn.

If my pfp wasn't a clue, I'm currently in the midst of a Hitchcock craze. I personally find the current writeup on Uncle Charlie from Shadow of a Doubt to be kind of bare bones. Anybody mind if I take a crack at a rewrite?

Also yeah Ancologica's Dark and Troubled Past and Freudian Excuse actually makes him worse rather than more sympathetic.

EDIT : Actually no it's fine. Made a mistake as the world of dissdia is only called World B. So keep as is.

So, on the topic of anime and manga, who are the most heinous villains currently listed do you think? Dou haguro, jinmen, and the unknown man are definitely up there

Oh God. So, so many. For the ones I've done, from Dokuro: Koganei's bad, and Kanehira's REALLY bad, but Junta's a pedophilic sadist. I think this picture says it all.

Yeah, I forgot about them. For ibitsu the Lolita is imo not AS disturbing as dou but she is still seriously disturbing even for a yandere.

BTW for anyone wondering Mystellein will be no. 2 (I think) for Monica Rial as she also voiced Umihebi in Snow White With The Red Hair .

Hard to pic just a few that are some of the worst from anime/manga, but I'll always go to ones like Ragyo for that special breed of awful, awful mothership combined with horrible large-scale crimes. Another notable one? Shira. One of the most awful serial killers I've ever seen.

On my end? Ones like Old Cho and Jiin are pretty bad, but Barrot probably blows them all out of the water.

Alright, here's the Uncle Charlie original...

  • Shadow of a Doubt: Uncle Charlie is a remorseless Serial Killer who targets rich widows to kill them for their money, viewing them as cows who deserve to be slaughtered for living pointless lives. When his niece, named after him as Charlie learns his secret, Uncle Charlie tries to kill her in increasingly desperate ways, from pushing her down the stairs, to trapping her in the garage with a running car engine and finally yanking her on the train with him, intending to push her to her death when it goes fast enough.

... and my rewrite.

  • Shadow of a Doubt: Charles "Uncle Charlie" Oakley is a seemingly affable and caring man who in actuality is a cold-blooded Serial Killer known as the "Merry Widow Murderer". Denouncing widows as "greedy, fat wheezing animals" who exploit their husbands' hard-earned wealth, Charles has strangled at least four women to death, stealing their fortunes for himself. When his niece discovers evidence of his dark secret, Charles sets about attempting to murder her, sabotaging a staircase to make her fall to her death, locking her in a garage with a running car to asphyxiate her, and ultimately attempting to throw her off a speeding train. A misanthropic maniac who has no remorse for his petty actions, Uncle Charlie stands out as one of the earliest, and most vile, depictions of a sociopath in film.

Thoughts?

[tup] Mystletainn and Shinryu.

In terms of most depraved anime monsters, I always think Haguro Dou. Such a gross, evil creature who always makes me feel repulsed every time I read his entry.

Embryo and the Unknown Man are a close second.

For ones I put up? I guess Miss Scorpion from New Cutie Honey, since she made a bigger impact with me, with Tarantula Claw not being that far off.

Oh, btw, guys, Altered Carbon the show? No keepers. Reileen Kawahara is the villain, but gets redeeming features and is played for tragedy where she's the hero's sister, unlike her book version
