During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

To add another example to support Fried's statement how some villains' are way too ridiculous and over the top to actually be taken seriously despite being treated as a serious threat is highly divisive candidate but at the end failed to qualify, Lennart Bedrager, who planned to ignite World War III For the Evulz... by exposing everyones entire internet history to the public on his website, Trolltrace.com.
Now after some debate I think I'll
Icey.
To Pizer

to Pizer.
Right, time for another candidate.
What is the work?
Time Lords and Terror is a Doctor Whooves fic where the Doctor ends up in Equestria and then has to team up with the Mane 6 to save all reality.
Who is the candidate?
The S'Müz, a reimagined G1 Pony villain.
And disclaimer right now. This may be the most evil and vile candidate I have ever proposed.
What has the S'Müz done?
The S'Müz is a being of some kind from outside reality, made of PKE energy, in other words, magic, which it calls Light. And appearantly, reality and all existence is made of Light.
And that pisses the S'Müz right off, so much so, it destroys whole universes out of spite, believing all life in existence, heck, existence itself, has stolen the PKE energy from it. It is literally disgusted and hates all life itself out of spiteful greed.
Like I said, most vile candidate I have ever proposed.
Thing is? It has no understanding of time and space, and every time it destroys a reality, it ends up creating more, making it even more angry. It is baffled by out form of existence completely.
Then it learns of the war between the Carrionites and Hervokens, which got so bad both were trapped outside time and space. So, it starts manipulating the Hervokens into making a ritual which would summon it and allow it to just start absorbing the PK energy, destroying all existence in the process. When the Hervoken realize this, they immediately stop working on it.
Then the Carrionites get their hands on it and try to run off with it, thinking they can control it. The Hervokens give chase, and a Hervoken commander is willing to launch a blast so powerful it will wipe out both their races. That's how much of a threat this thing is.
Course, who should show up but the Doctor himself, preventing that and kicking off the plot for this fic.
So, for the most part, the S'Müz is basically manipulating three Carrionites, Hydia, Draggle and Reeka, whom it considers three thieves, into making a summoning ritual for it to begin harvesting the PKE from all life and existence. When the Doctor and Mane 6 manage to contact it and figure out what it really wants, they race against time to stop Hydia from summoning the S'Müz, and almost succeed in convincing her, foiling the ritual...until surprise! Hydia proceeds to use her daughter, Draggle, as a way to summon the S'Müz, thinking she can control it.
It proceeds to inflict a Cessation of Existence upon her, tearing apart and absorbing her very soul, and begins draining the life from all around it.
Course, the Doctor comes up with a plan to save the day, and is promptly stabbed through with a tentacle and absorbed into.
Yup, it killed the Doctor. Turns out, the Doctor can still see everything and is aware, as the S'Müz knows he is, and wants him to watch as it drains the life from Ponyville and all reality.
As we learn, now that it can comprehend reality, time and space, the S'Müz decides it hates both. Why?
Because time is not knowing, it is ignorance, and space is hassle, getting from one place to another. It hates both for those reasons.
However, turns out that sucking life out everything in a quest to end all existence can be used against it to suck the PKE energy out of it by the Mane 6, which promptly happens...and the S'Müz begins begging for it's life. Yeah, it starts begging and pleading, at the mercy of six Equestrian ponies. In the process, all is made well, the S'Müz defeated, everyone who died save Hydia and the Hervoken commander are brought back, with Draggle now a filly to be adopted, and the Doctor and Mane 6 go on adventures through time and space!
Heinousness?
It has destroyed whole universes before, so it easily clears the standard, and is manipulative, petty, greedy and spiteful to the core. Yup, checks out.
Mitigating Factors?
This thing clearly isn't Made of Evil, given it how it regards a place it calls the True Plane perfect and shows itself to be a hateful creature which regards everything that lives and breathes, whole universes as thieves who stole from it by simply existing.
Conclusion
Keep. Yeah, this is my most vile candidate ever. Gonna take a lot for me to find something to top this thing in the sequel.
Oh yeah, guess what? There was a bomb scare here today. Reminds me of home.

Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.I can say right now, the S'Müz meshes well with the setting, so probably ZCE. I will work up a write up if it is upvoted enough.
Also, something has been bothering me...
Should we cut Jonathan Teatime? He's listed as Obliviously Evil, so I think that can be disqualifying for him, and he is also listed as Affably Evil.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.Hey everyone. Real quick, I thought organizations were not allowed, yet I found an entry in Video Games for an organization:
- Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future: In the "Dolphin's Nightmare" stages, the oceans are ruled by the Clan, a group of racist, cruel dolphins who torment outcast dolphins and other marine life. The Clan is lead by the Exalted Ones, and under their orders, members of the Clan engage in such atrocities as capturing whales to use as living generators, cutting off the food supplies of an outcast village and later siccing sharks on the villagers, and torturing a member of the dolphin resistance group. While the lead Exalted One, Mutaclone, does display somewhat of a positive side, the two unnamed Exalted Ones show no redeeming traits at all, with one of them even stating "Compassion is a weakness".
Should this stay?
Read Slender Man vs Siren Head 2: The Foundation hereWhat about the S'Müz, though?
Also, Teatime shouldn't be listed as Affably Evil in that case.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.I will go ahead and remove Teatime from being Affably Evil.

Any in favor?

Yeah I think the max it can go before it becomes a group is three.
Still if the lead Exalted One does have milatating factors the fail to qualify while the other two Exalted Ones don’t, then the write up should definitely give more focus on those two
My sandbox of EPs and other stuff@43: Actually, you would be surprised how well this can mesh together. It is a bit more Doctor Who focused, of course, but it still works. The spaces between the paragraphs are the biggest issue for me really.
So, here is a write up for Der Kaiser.
1901 by Robert Conroy: Kaiser Wilhelm II is the inept yet lethal ruler of the German Empire, who envies the British Empire's prestige. Desiring an overseas empire of his own, the Kaiser launches an invasion of New England, sparking a war with the United States that kills thousands. During the course of the war, the Kaiser orders German immigrants to America killed in mass executions, demeaning them traitors, has New York City occupied and looted, destroys several important landmarks and has thousands of forgein vessels forcibly commandeered to help supply his army. Posing the demeanor of a sulking child, Kaiser Wilhelm II was so consumed by his insecurities he would risk anything, even war, to alleviate them.

Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.i'll give a
to Pizer but i'll give at least a cautious
to Smuz.....And yes, im cool with the exalted ones rewrite btw.
@Chaotic Queen Also, for the quotes that you've proposed....I'm not sure if that scream C Ms especially for the second quote when you can mistake someone who want to join to play either video game or join a club just for fun so yeah.....But hey, thats just my opinion though. But I think I'll give a weak yea on the first one but no on the second one

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."I guess I can give a
To Smuz given that the crossover is more align with the Doctor Who universe
Out of curiosity, has anyone ever brought about Arcade, the Marvel supervillain? I remember the first time a comic with him, he strikes me as summon who could count given enough effort.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.

I feel like staying out of the Icely discussion altogether since I feel like I'd only be able to cast a solid vote if I saw his movie of origin. But on paper, the whole "kill everyone in the world by shooting lava out of their television screens because my show got cancelled" thing just sounds... way too over the top and ridiculous to be taken seriously. Kind of like Grandfather from Kid's Next Door enslaving children so he can have them make tapioca pudding, or Maltravers getting a gang of sentient sharks to sink the Titanic, kill thousands of people, and make a mockery of a historical tragedy in the process.
