During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Lizzid people!
Rawlins.
I wish I could vote
to Steppenwolf given how he's so generic that he fails to stand out to me and leaves no lasting impression whatsoever, but by all technicalities he counts in the way the likes of Ronan and Azog did, so a weak
I guess.
When a truly hateful and frighteningly depraved villain like Ghetsis still can't make the cut on the same day that someone like Steppenwolf can, something doesn't feel right to me. But alas, that's just how it goes.

Mnnnh.....I just saw Justice League today, and for me.....Steppenwolf doesn't cut it.
Even more generic than Ronan was. For me he was a Generic Doomsday Villain in his purest form. A big threat, yes, but he never evoked any outright hatred or despair for me, both in- and out-universe.
So a
from me, though I wouldn't be overly insulted if he should make it or anything.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.I get Stepp is flat and generic, but I don't see how he's a Generic Doomsday Villain. He has a clear personality, a motive, and even some dark humor at one point.
A better example for a GDC would be Trihexa I mentioned a page or three ago. A being who comes to destroy with no reason or motive.

Nah theres still hope as Aquaman is already made and I think shazam, Batman and wonder woman 2 is a safe bet as far as movies go but the others may be in trouble from what I read on sites unless thoose do well.
@lighty : Its not that he's a GDV per say so much as he is a really bland and forgettable villain who may be in the running for worst comic book movie villain of all time. Which is why a few people have down voted him for being so forget able.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Who cares about Shazam or that guy who can talk to fish? I’m still waiting for them to announce the first Snowflame movie.
Joking aside, DC has a strong fan base. As long as they continue to improve their movies and don’t repeat the same mistakes, the DCEU can become as successful as the MCU. Keep in mind that there were a lot of bad Marvel movies before Iron Man.
"As a note, I can also post a bit of a comparison for the other rawlins"
Please do. I'm curious. And a cut? Please do tell.
I've heard the tone of Justice League is MUCH grimmer than Marvel; almost too grim for a comic (though that DID work for Nolan's trilogy, although it seems Ledger!Joker (the only 1 of the 3 I did see) was MUCH better than Steppenwolf (the only DCEU film I've seen is Wonder Woman)).

I for one can honestly say that Justice League was the first DCEU film I liked. If they continue this way, I wish them all the best.
As for Steppenwolf, okay, maybe he has that tiny bit of personality, but I still think he was too generic to count. Like I said, a big threat? Surely. But I just never once thought That guy is an irredeemable scumbag, can't WAIT for him to get his just dessert! I just can't, in good faith, give him a thumbs up and actually mean it.

to the Cute Honey candidates, Rawlins, and Stephenwolf. And I'm fine with cutting Otoya Takechi
I know MCU Billy Russo doesn't make the cut (at least for now) but what about his comic book counterpart Jigsaw? I have read the Punisher comic book myself, but I know from other sources that he killed Frank's family and became his Arch-Enemy. Plus I'm sure that Jigsaw has got more crimes under his belt.
