During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Good point. 40+ votes and Polar Phantom should be enough at this point.

Durge can be upsized. At the full size, it's clear he's standing over the body of one of his bounties whilst delivering a rather great quote at the same time ("...[T]oday, I get to kill four of you. Add to that the Gungans I already murdered, the hostages I'm going to kill later, and all the Naboo who will die tomorrow, and it's a damn good week.")
For Bellatrix, we don't "need" an image from the books. From what I recall, Bellatrix counts just as easily in the films as she does in the books — the medium of books means that finding an image of her doing something nasty there is going to be hard if not impossible without resorting to fanart. That aside, I don't really think the Bellatrix one works as it's pretty generic, all things considered.

For the durge image, it definitely should be enlarged since it came out really small for some reason. The dialogue he says can be illustrative although it is hard to see because it comes out really small due to it being directly from wookieepedia

I don't think Bella does enough in the films to count. For instance, I don't believe her torturing the Longbottom parents into insanity made the cut.
I'd say the only one who counts in both films and books is mouldy Voldy. And he's too similar to give his film counterpart a desperate entry.
I don't think any of those Minecraft images can work. The visuals are too crude for my liking. They work in game, but not when it comes to showing pure evil.
I forgot what makes The Government of the Walking Dead didnt get qualify in the show actually?
Also, Not sure on other images but I really like Le Tenia one....He can stay in CM images....And speaking of him, I always thinking about Buppa from Tokyo Tribes thanks to Le Tenia as their rape are brutal enough that these guys could qualify as a CM hehe (Still, so sad that Buppa doesnt count in the anime even if the rape is brutal enough that would make him a CM however he doesnt count due to his love of his son)

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."I’m aware that it’s pretty much unlikely anyone from The Walking Dead show but I wonder if anyone from Fear The Walking Dead could qualify

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffI mean, it's not just the rape with Buppa, either... not only is that sort of thing implied to be regular behavior with him, the guy's got the mass prostitution of hundreds of women, slaughtering Mera's (I think it was Mera, anyways... one of the main characters, anyways) parents, committing plenty of godawful murders and keeping his victims' severed, maimed body parts as trophies...
The dude's ungodly vile — but it's just that one niggling quality that keeps him off. I almost went ahead and proposed the anime version anyways considering his reaction to his son's death is actually a lot less visceral than in the manga (where Buppa is outright bursting into undignified, angry tears) but alas. Still glad the film version counts, at least (that version may actually be a tiny bit worse as I don't recall anime!Buppa being a friggin' cannibal).

Will probably do a proposition write up for Gothel from Barbie as Rapunzel soon. If I'm not mistaken she's the only Barbie antagonist who managed to get people killed (via war out of pettiness, no less), and was only rejected because she was from a Barbie movie.
My Patreon. It is my life.

Yeah, the only time resources wouldn't matter is in a case like Dragon Ball, where basically EVERYONE tries to commit omnicide, so while Van Zant does the most with what he has, it's still not enough to count.
And yeah, Hela was no Ego (possibly the best of the MCU villains), but DEFINITELY the best of the Thor villains (and better than Ronan).
Can I request removing Loki from the "Never Again" list?
Also: Not really a villain; has a Freudian Excuse, loves his mother, etc, etc
