During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Something that I think needs to be specified: I'm pretty sure it's in everyone's best interest to mention on the thread if you're reserving a proposal. What if someone didn't mention that they d reserved the proposal of a villain, and ended up having someone ELSE propose the baddie first? Someone who doesn't regularly check the Reservation page, for example.
I just think that, from now on, if anyone wants to reserve a proposal, they should run it by here first. I do that with all of mine, and I think it should be a required thing.

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!Well, in that case...the movies I've reserved discussion for are Moana, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, How To Train Your Dragon 3, and Justice League Dark.
Why so serious?I'll go ahead and reserve Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. Through from what little's trickled out of Japan it doesn't really sound like anybody counts.
Alright, speaking of repurposing: I'm repurposing Jack Noir from Homestuck. I've gotten 2
, Phi Sat came and reiterated a
and one person abstaining. The discussion keeps fading away.
- Jack Noir goes From Nobody to Nightmare by murdering the Black Queen and stealing her prototyping ring. He gets worse from there, racking up a body count in the thousands and killing several of the protagonists multiple times, as well as their guardians, in cold blood. When given the opportunity he slaughters thousands of Aradiabots and all the trolls' dreamselves and destroys their planets, then proceeds to murder the last of the carapacians and attempts to destroy the frog manifestation of the universe itself. Completely lacking the virtues of his troll counterpart Spades Slick, he revels in murder and destruction with no regard for anyone but himself.
Reasons To Cut
- When proposed it was noted that Jack had acquired good personality traits from being fused with Jade's dog Bec. These traits caused him to perform altruistic actions for Jade. These were rendered not a disqualifier as these were artificial feelings that didn't affect his morality. With that being said, it was Jade's death that threw Jack into a berserker rage from grief, that that's what lead him to slaughter the Aradiabots, the Exiles, and the universe manifestation. I argue that these actions were performed under these artificial feelings and are subject to his morality being compromised. Without these actions, Jack's body count is no greater than what is to be expected of a monarch.
- Jack's Even Evil Has Standards moment. When fighting with the surviving Exile PM, Jack witnesses the opening attack of another CM, Lord English. English's attack slaughters thousands, and fractures reality itself. Jack can do nothing but stare in horror at the destruction that was caused. This action had nothing to do with Jade and thus wasn't part of his affected morality.
- Jack's story is incomplete. Jack survives the ending of Homestuck, and will be around for the epilogue. The ending hints that he might be redeemed because he falls in love with another Carapacian, Ms. Paint. This is BULLSHIT OF THE HIGHEST AND ALL OTHER ORDERS, but it might also potentially disqualify him. Even if it doesn't, Jack is the only Homestuck CM example that's still alive and needs closure.
@Ravok: That all might not be necessary, since that's what the Discussion Date Page is for anyway. Although someone should probably post a link to it in the FAQ.
@Lightysnake: No, I'll do the effortpost(s), thanks. Also the link to the dates page is in my sig, not ACW's. I haven't been on this forum a couple days so no one's been able to see it recently.
For the sake of argument though, any form of media involving anthropomorphism, or outer space/aliens, or medieval settings, or Anyone Can Die, I am more than likely going to pounce on. I binge-watched Kulipari in two sittings based on the premise and a forum post, nothing else. That and it's actually a rather decent show.
I already got the TMNT cartoon, Transformers: The Last Knight (not like anyone but me is dying to see it
), Assassin's Creed, Underworld: Blood Wars, and The Wild Ones: Moonlight Brigade claimed.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.As for me, I have Incarnate (2016) reserved, as well as Five Nights at Freddy's reserved. I also have Star vs. the Forces of Evil reserved and since a third season has been announced, I'll reserve that one as well.
I've called nothing. That said, since I included it in the dates, I will call the fifth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie. And Bloodstained Ritual Of The Night game (though, I doubt it will have any candidates).

Welcome to the world of greatest media!![]()
I suppose for the sake of clarity, like assigning people a certain task for something.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Jumping in on the claim train: I reserved Spider-Man Homecoming, Shazam, Captain Marvel, Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps, Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice, Pokemon Sun and Moon, Injustice 2, Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, an obscure webcomic called Neokosmos, and the current and upcoming fifth seasons of Steven Universe (And will reserve any other seasons that are added to the show's run).
I'll admit that I made a few reservations without notifying anyone (Zelda and Neokosmos) and I'm really sorry. Since no one really acknowledged me when I offered to reserve other works, I figured that it wasn't necessary to do so since other works were being reserved without an announcement. For that, I'm sorry. D:
Now to make things right, I noticed that an old blast from my past, a certain web series called Super Mario Bros Z has been rebooted early this year. Unfortunately it's been put on hold since its creator decided to take a several-month sojourn from the internet to combat his depression and physical health issues (my heart goes out to the guy, from the sound of things his life is REALLY rough
), meaning that any discussion won't be happening for a LONG time. But is anyone cool with me reserving a discussion date? Not only could Mecha Sonic gain new crimes not present in the original series, but there could be other villains present who could warrant a discussion seeing how the original series had several other arcs intended that never happened due to its cancellation.
As for reserving stuff, I do so because I want to contribute more to this thread. By reserving dates I can talk about media I'm going to read/play/watch so much easier than if I were to just happen to stumble upon a somehow not-discussed form of media with a potential candidate in it.
