During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsAnarky and Smoak.
Why so serious?Anarky
Welcome to the world of greatest media!to Anarky for now, but I'm pretty sure he'll be coming back.
Unsure on Andy.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."@Ravok You should try the Ron The Death Eater Game
Anarky. His MEH in the penultimate episode was what fully convinced me that he's a CM.
Andy ? He's a tough call. I'll think about it.
Oh, and Felicity Smoak. Even Zoom looks nice in comparison.

I am not comfortable with the misogynistic undertones of the fan hatred towards Felicity, that "joking" post included.
Make no mistake, I still like Felicity. Partly because her reason for breaking up with Oliver was kinda justified, contrary to those who think that she should have died instead of Laurel (if YMMV is anything to go by) and partly because I think she's still funny.
Speaking of the latter, her popularity spike was pretty impressive for someone who has been the scrappy for the most of the Series, if the mostly negative reaction to her death is anything to go by. I actually shed a tear at the end of the episode. It never never with any other show I've ever watched. The music, the credible acting, the overall atmosphere probably contributed to that.

Me thinks those undertones your're getting from us don't exist.
to Anarky. Not really for Andy's qualification.

Unsure about Diggle. to Anarky.
That stuff about Fecility Smoak reminds me why I am glad I stopped watching Arrow after season 1. I heard the Reddit for that show decided to talk about Daredevil instead after the latest season finale.
Seriously though, why does this one show have so many monster characters? I looked for examples in the Green Arrow comic and really only found one so far, there is a period where Green Arrow was a darker and more realistic comic, but I am having trouble finding an example that really stands out from that era.

Most of the Arrow qualifiers are, at best, 3-5 appearance characters, Also, I sent a PM to someone to help us work on those Battle Tech entries (plus one more which I think he wanted to propose).
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI just realized the Felicity post was a joke-post.
...I really need to read more slowly next time.
Why so serious?First of all, for anyone wondering, yes, the Felicity post was a joke.
Second of all, what misogynistic undertones? Most fans freaking adored Felicity for the first 2 seasons, and ALOT of fans went ballistic when Laurel (A FEMALE) died. Almost everyone who dislikes Felicity at this point doesn't dislike her because she's a "woman" who does "woman" things. It's because (Depending on who you ask) the writers screwed up her character BIG TIME, and the fans are upset about it.
There's no reason to throw accusations of misogyny around when it's quite obvious that, in almost every fan's opinion, Arrow has declined in quality, and the way the writers are treating their female characters is NOT helping (Again, depending on who you ask).
Finally, yes Overlord, you heard right. The Arrow sub-reddit got so disgusted with the show and it's latest finale that it started discussing Daredevil episodes, and even changed it's banners and such to match. That's the testament to Arrow's quality last season. A DC-show Subreddit started discussing a MARVEL show.
Tonight I dine on monkey soup.Fair enough. I just think that is a weird contrast with the comics.
This might ber proof the new Zarkon is a monster, the voice actor compares him to a certain historical figure:
That is too bad. I will say I think Marvel Netflix shows are a cut above the DC network shows. Even though I thought there were a few problems with the last DD season and it was not as strong as the first season, it still seems way better then the DC shows, that are limited by the network structure.
In some ways I am kinda glad the new Star Trek show will be on a streaming site, too bad it is on CBS All access, a really crappy streaming site. Streaming shows don't try to stretch a story across 26 episodes and don't have to break up the action with commercial breaks.

Honestly, I think sometimes people are too hard on Felicity and give Malcolm a free pass, he is MUCH more obnoxious^^

Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianI disagree. Every Arrow fan I see hates Malcolm as much as, or even more than, Felicity. I know I do.
ACW: You forgot to have Vandal Savage be put here https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Monster/ArrowVerse

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.I really shouldn't have said anything.
to Anarky. One of these days, I wanna write a show where he's portrayed as an actual anarchist. You know, the kind who believe that mankind need not be governed, instead of the kind who are psychotic, bomb-throwing terrorists who blow shit up for no reason and think anarchy is a synonym for chaos.
to Andy. He's a major scumbag, but he just doesn't seem like CM material to me.
Felicity and Merlyn's current statuses as The Scrappy are one of the many reasons that I think the Arrowverse is suffering from bad writing (confusing time travel in Legends and The Flash are another big one).
It is better to write for yourself and have no public than to write for the public and have no self.To Anarky, to Andy
